    Nothing about education is easy.
One of the most overworked, underpaid professions there is.

My wife is a teacher and I've worked in education for 23 years. I would disagree.
Being a classroom teacher with constant student interaction from 8 am to 3:30 pm, plus bus duty days with little to no breaks, M-F, in addition to using your planning period to remediate students and call parents.
Then, grading papers and answering student and parent questions throughout the evening.
I'm sorry but assistant principals don't even come close to that level of continuous work. You might argue that they deal with parent complaints, but these days, most administrators dodge, deflect and refer parents back to the teacher. If they don't, then the teacher gets yelled at, still not escaping. Remember, everything flows down hill.

Smart choice in my opinion, but that's looking at it from the outside. Each person and situation is different and unique and there is no one size fits all. Kid's a baller and from watching him a few times, tough as nails.

Once had official visits to Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee among others... now relinquished to an NAIA school.  Glad he's getting a chance somewhere, but so much potential wasted is a shame.

Clements is too small Right Now to play Div 1 football. You ain't playing running back under 180 in 2024 and that's even pushing it. The exceptions are only a few that are insanely elite. What is Clements true weight? 160ish? I said this on here 2 years ago, he's fantastic, but he will need to be a buck 80 to play 1AA (FCS) ball.
Key words in the above paragraph. Right Now.  If I could walk on at Tech and had the money or school paid for, I would go to VT as a walk on over UVA Wise because the strength and conditioning program at Tech just has so many more resources for him to get his weight up. Additionally, I think he is a very high GPA type kid, approaching 3.8 or more, so he could possibly get an academic scholly to Blacksburg and get his school paid for that way if he were to walk on, and this might be why he is taking the visit to VT.

I think starting at a smaller school would benefit him more but that’s just me. Wish him the best wherever he ends up.

Yeah, I understand the portal and COVID year, but I was wondering why if he had those offers, he didn't sign? If the FBS offers aren't really committable (I can't imagine the Navy & Army offers not being committable), then he shouldn't hesitate to go with an FCS or DII program and try to work his way up. Mizzuruh's 1st team AA RB came to Mizzuruh from DII Truman State. That was a rags-to-riches story if there ever has been. While Clements may be lacking something or some things that would make most FBS schools hesitate, it'd be a travesty if he didn't go somewhere and get his start.

Very hard for any High School kid to get a D1 scholarship at any level with all the 6 and 7 year guys that got the extra year from COVID and the transfer portal just letting kids move where ever they want and when ever they want. When can only have 85 guys scholarships and you got guys thats are 26 still playing ball taking up one of those if takes one away from a good high school kid.

Sullivan East just had a kid commit to Colorado for next year.  Somewhat surprising.  Corbin Laisure a TE who will have to add weight.  6-5 218.

To me a legend in the area.  Sarge was a long time assistant for Harry Fry at Gate City.  In the late 70s he took over as the lead Dawg at Appalachia stepping down in 79 after a 7-3 campaign handing the keys to Tom Turner to take over.  Sarge then took over the Rye Cove program in 83 and got the broke on the brink of a state title in 88.  RC had defeated Jonesville at Jonesville near the end of the regular season before losing to the Dogs in a mud bowl in the region finals during the improbable run for the crew from Jonesville.  Sarge stepped out of coaching after 1990 but returned to the Cove in 97.   He was to be he HC but took the assistant title instead so a former player, Joe Carter could be the HC.   Sarge still ran almost everything for the program for the next three years which were some of the programs winningest teams.   He took over the Twin Springs program in 2003 as they were coming out of a really rough stretch.  I asked him why he was heading up there.  Coach told me he liked a challenge and had coached at GC and RC, he might as well mark off the last county school before he retired for good. Coach stepped down after only two seasons.  He led TS to two of their programs three region final games during those two years.
Coach Reed wasnt flashy.  He wore the same clothes to practice everyday and its hard to tell how many miles had been put on his 80s Thunderbird.  He expected you to be physical as he said he only felt like he had lost two ballgames when his teams were the most physical one on the field.  The playbook wasn't super deep on either side of the ball but like the nickname "Sarge" practice was drilled like military over and over to run things to perfection.  He commanded respect but showed his "bigguns" a lot of love over the years.  RIP to a SWVA coaching legend in my book.

Like the Union name, but the Bears? Should've been more creative than that. I have to say that I don't actually hate any of the high schools though. Even though our grandson recently played for Dobyns-Bennett, their fans can be a little overbearing when it comes to talking about their record over the years and all of their state "championships" none of which were won under a playoff format. They also used to talk about their dominance over Science Hill, but not that the tables have turned, they make fun of it being Science Hill's Super Bowl.  I also took a little smug satisfaction with Vero Beach and their band of mercenaries failing to advance past the 2nd round this year. They reeled in 7 John Carroll (here in Fort Pierce) starters, including 2 four star players, and turning Carroll from a state title contender in their division to a team that failed to make the playoffs. Vero also had 7 other transfers from other teams, giving them 14 starters who weren't in the program before. Did that cause a rift with the other players? I'll go out on a limb and say yes.

In addition to what @cityofRaven said, there are a lot of traits particular to SWVA that aren't seen in other parts of the state, or country for that matter. We are bonded by a common heritage, and more like family than acquaintances.
Take the flooding that devastated the Hurley community in Buchanan Co for example. That town is over 2 hrs away from BSG, but the town/high school organized a food/supply/money drive at the football games to take up donations. This same scene was duplicated at other towns all over SWVA.
As for HS football in particular, it's a part of that shared heritage, and while we may be rivals on the field, nobody wants to see another community in a bad situation. When Chris Akers was relieved of his duties at GC, that thread was bigger than this one.
We want to see all teams competitive...just not TOO competitive. haha

I feel different than most of you guys I think Graham blows them out second half.  That’s if someone tells the coach calling the plays that #5 is a pretty good ball player

Anderson Co (TN) has a great entrance too, with a great fireworks show and dry ice as the team comes out of a fieldhouse that has a facade like a barn and while the sound of a cattle stampede plays over the PA. Their habit of the recording of a cow mooing over the PA before a big 3rd down is a little cheesy though.

The Bears coming in with a police escort & then parading down the middle of the field to the opposite end zone & with that coach swinging the towel getting the crowd fired up then running through that inflatable Bear with that hammer. Nobody can  do a grand entrance like Union!

As some of you know, I live in south Florida and take in a ton of games (28 this season) due to games on Thursdays and Fridays because of shared stadiums and referee shortages. This year, I saw 32 different teams, and while all but 5 of those teams would solidly thump or mercy rule Graham and Union, there are NONE of those teams who play with the passion those kids played with today, and there is NO place down there that is in the same universe in terms of game atmosphere as what I saw today. I wish I had a video of it to show those people.
