Movie based on a true story. Race relations were horrible in 1973 in Birmingham Alabama. Gov. George Wallace was totally opposed to integration. One school integrated and came together. Woodlawn high school. Watched the movie last night with my wife and it was great. Jon Voight plays Bear Bryant. Woodlawn's football team and the Banks Jets do the impossible. Movie centers around  faith and courage. If you haven't seen it I recommend it to you! We saw it at Norton Cinema. 

Greensville upsets previously unbeaten George Mason on a 3 pointer with 4 seconds to go in OT 66-63. Mavahi vs Greensville tommorow for the title.

Good luck to Gate City!!  They showed last game against Martinsville that they can play with them.  Would like to see them make it to the championship on Saturday and of course win it :)

Hoping Gate City can pull this one out ... and bring the state title home!

If GC can score as many points in the paint as they did the last time then I think it will be another close ballgame. The 3 pt shot is a big factor but if they try to rely on it they are in trouble. If Holland gets in foul trouble again like the last matchup GC has to capitalize when he's out of the game. He missed the last 4-5 minutes of the 2nd qtr and GC only scored like 1-2 buckets during that stretch. That was their opportunity to take a good lead and didn't do it. If GC plays smart basketball they can win the ballgame. I wont make any predictions in this one, just hope the boys give themselves a chance to win.....GO BIG BLUE!!

I think Martinsville wins by 10 in the rematch after getting a wake up call in their first game with Gate City. The problem for Gate City is their lack of size in matching up with Holland on the defensive end. Gate City will have an familiarity advantage in playing at VCU their last game. GC needs to a hit several outside shots to pull the upset.

Martinsville has to be favored .... but if Gate city can score 63 or more points limit the turnovers to under 10 and stay with in 7 or so in rebounds with Martinsville.  Then Gate City can win. 
 
Gate City's high powered offence scored 64 points last game, that is the most anyone has scored on Martinsville all year.  I don't see anyone scoring 70 or above.  Good Luck GC

I like the way you think Wave. Just hoping GC puts themselves in a situation to win. I rather Martinsville beat Gate City than for Gate City to beat Gate City. Go Big Blue!!!

GC JV lost to DB in overtime the first game of the season. Won the next 24 games to finish 24-1. Arguably the two best players on that team are 8th graders. I am sure it is Dean that EZ is talking about. Kid has incredible shooting range for an 8th grader. Would prob win a 3 pt shooting contest against any varsity player GC has right now. Best things about that team is that they played 9-10 players and played some intense defense. 
 
Mitchell at Union is a sophomore. Noaks made that team go this year. Losing him will really hurt. However, Union also has great JV team coming up. 
 
 
I watched the Blue Stone highlights. Not at all impressed with what I saw. 
 
Will depend on which GC team shows up. If it is the team that played MHS, I would say we have a good chance of winning. If it is the team that played the first 2 quarters against Graham, it is going to be a long ride back to GC. 
 
For those making the trip, if you have time, check out Dot's Back Inn. A small, neighborhood bar that has surprisingly great food. Typical bar food and a list of daily specials that you would expect to find at a "fancier" place......stuffed flounder, swordfish, seaweed salad, etc.....    Kind of a place "where everybody knows your name."

Wish the boys had at least had a more consistent crew. No way anyone can hardly get into a rythm with those kinds of calls. Close game like I figured..... Was just hoping it wouldn't be that ugly. Maybe they both got that junk out of their system and wipe out the top teams in the East.

Very true....."ifs" and "buts" won't win it though. Collier missed the FT at the end but played well beyond what he normally does anyhow which kept us in the game. We missed 6 other FTs besides his final one so if the other guys had made there's it wouldn't have fell on his shoulders. MHS shot less than 50% from the FT line too....so lots of factors could have changed the outcome of the game. Collier was open all night under the bucket behind the zone and no one seemed to really get him the ball. Scored most of his points off of put-backs.
 
I'd love to see GC manage to make it and get another shot at Martinsville. This was one of the best games I've seen all year. MHS is a great team with all kinds of athletes....but they aren't nearly as dominant as I expected them to be against us. Now the question is.....just how good is George Mason and Bluestone?? I feel like GC and Graham both will be able to compete and gives these teams a game.

Bluestone is not a state caliber team IMHO.  But I like George Mason to win the State.  Too deep, too well coach to not win.  Only disappointment is that their fans are pathetic.  They may literally bring 20-30 fans and those are all relatives of players.

Madison lost to Bluestone at Bluestone and is done.  Madison started 4 freshmen in that game.  They are going to be good the next few years.  They went 21-5 this year with 3 losses to George Mason.  They only lose one player and he was literally the last guy off the bench. 
 
Mason is the EAST team, IMHO.  They go 10 deep and I think all are seniors.  Bluestone will not win away from the friendly confines of their home court.  I am not sure they ever run a play.  All one on one stuff.  No size, but are athletic.  Odd thing is that they are athletic but have only one player I would call a basketball player.  He is the point guard and can flat out shoot.

I think the East final 4 is pretty evenly matched. Bruton played Mason really close all the way until the 4th and then lost 68-63 . Greensville had a 7pt lead over Bluestone with 1:38 left and blew it. Guy got a shot off as time expired to win 64-62

That's not easy. That's dumb and overly convoluted for the sake of playing extra games and extracting a few thousand dollars of revenue from already cash-strapped families.

They've been known to do that a time or two, yes.
 
Roanoke Times Twitter account reported the possible location change for Floyd and Chatham girls last night.
 
The absolute worst and most disgraceful one happened last year when they took the entire 1A West Volleyball tournament away from Rye Cove and moved it to Marion because Auburn threw a hissy fit about having to go to Rye Cove.  Rye Cove was in the tournament.  They didn't deserve to have the tournament taken from them if they were a part of it.  I can understand the scenario of Floyd and Chatham above a little bit better.  They're both 2.5+ hours from Wise, sure, if they want to play somewhere else, go ahead.

I'm not sure about the Courthouse boys, but it was painfully obvious last night that the Courthouse girls are very weak.  If Chatham is their best team, I'd hate to see the rest of the conference.  Chatham has no business still playing.  I honestly think that Lebanon, the CMC's worst team, could've beat Chatham.
 
My question is, if Martinsville and Dan River wind up playing Saturday, will they even play at Wise?  I won't be able to make it Friday, so I am hoping to get to see both teams play Saturday.
 
It took 5 minutes after Ridgeview beat Floyd last night for the rumors to start that Floyd and Chatham would not be coming back to Wise on Saturday and that their third place game will be played somewhere closer to them.

Through 24 games, Martinsville is allowing only 42.4 points a game.   Only 5 opponents reached the 50 point plateau, with one of those (Northside) scoring 60. 

I sure hope your right. If I had my choice though, id rather lose to them now and take our chances the 2nd time if we got a chance to play them again down the road. If we was to pull out an upset....the rematch may not go as well if we played again.

Updated 2A West Girls Bracket in OP.  The big girl from Graham #40 was very tough on the inside.  We played very lackluster at times tonight.  Floyd County concerns me, especially after a 43 point win tonight.
