I am baffled. So much hatred for a kid in high school. I just hope you are also a teenager as well, if not, this is entirely embarrassing for you.

  5. Union would and maybe Abingdon. I highly doubt Ridgeview would.

  6. Grayson's not done giving teams headaches. They forced five turnovers against Marion as well. They're very stout on defense and run a ball control offense. You heard it here first folks, Grayson will beat someone that they shouldn't before the season's over.

  8. Operation butthurt is in full swing. I loved the pic. Remember back I. The 90’s and so one when the cheerleaders signs talked smack? Has your buddy ever called Central “Walmart Warriors”? If so, call him out of his hypocrisy. Some central kids posted a pic of roadkill bear before the union/central 7/8 grade game. Well played Central. My God people. It’s a kids game. Unless he really takes a my little pony lunchbox to work ?. Let Lee get mad. As long as both teams play clean and hard, so be it.

    Marion at Gate City

I'm just blown away by comments that say that this will be the toughest game Marion faces yet this season. That doesn't say much of strength of schedule for the #1 ranked team in 2D. I've not seen Marion play and not a knock on our friends from GC (lord knows that's been done enough on this board) but if Marion struggles against GC every other team in the M7 district should beat them. And that's not even considering Richlands, Va High, Graham, etc.

  12. The thought is nice but most coaches don't watch or care about most teams in their region until they have to. Even in college, most of the votes are done by the SID.

  14. I've been hesitant to weigh in on individual matchups for Marion this year because Marion has the talent that if they have a good week of prep, play a clean game, and play to their full potential, there's not a game on their schedule that they can't win. Bearing that in mind, because of the depth of 2D this year, if they don't do those things, they could lose any game on their schedule (with the exception of maybe Northwood). In particular, this game scares me as much as any they've played this year, because an 0-6 Gate City team, at Legion Field, on Homecoming sounds like the most dangerous thing a team could run into. Couple that with Marion coming off a very emotional victory last week, an unknown QB situation, the potential to be looking ahead to the Naders coming to town next week, and the knowledge that Marion has only beaten GC twice in 90 years of football, and I'm more than a little concerned about this one.

    SWVA all time teams

That was a very good year for this area. Lee High made it to the D4 semis that year.

  19. True. The reclassification of 1970 was a tremendous boost in leveling the playing field while offering everyone a path to a state championship that still had real meaning and cachet. For that reason, I think the discussion ought to be framed in terms of "best since 1970," because there are easily defined metrics to support specific arguments. And under those terms, I'd still offer Appalachia, Gate City, and Powell Valley (in no particular order) as the three most consistently successful SW Virginia teams during their existence in what we might then define as the "modern era." Graham, Giles, Radford, and Pulaski County definitely warrant mention in the discussion as well. Richlands, Abingdon, Narrows, George Wythe, and Tazewell also have strong arguments to make for specific runs within the era.
