  4. I am sure Marcell is very fast. But, very, very few High School players run a TRUE 4.5. Numbers like 4.3, 4.4, 4.5 are thrown around all the time, it's just not the case! Track and field organizations generally use a +.15 correction factor, when comparing old hand timed races to electronically times modern races. Plus, they where hand timed with multiple watches with very experienced timers. Lows and highs thrown out, the rest must generally agree Not a single High School coach saying....... GO. Hand times can easily be .2 to .3 off. The shorter the race the more pronounce this is. Only times that are electronically timed are accurate. If someone wants to time their own team, using the same timer, under the same conditions... then he could get a really good idea of how fast his team is relative to each other. But, the time itself is absolutely meaningless for comparison purposes. Even when comparing to another team that is also hand timing. A guy that runs a TRUE 4.6 is very, very fast and is the fastest guy; by far, in 95% plus of high school games. A true 4.5 would be about 6th on the following list........ Last NFL combine RB top 40 times. (Fastest college running backs in Draft class) 1. Justice Hill, @CowboyFB, 4.40 2. Ryquell Armstead, @Temple_FB, 4.45 t3. Jordan Scarlett, @GatorsFB, 4.47 t3. Mike Weber, @OhioStateFB, 4.47 5. Travis Homer, @CanesFootball, 4.48 3:18 PM · Mar 1, 2019

  5. SWVAgridiron, I thought it actually Did come down to power points, but the exception was this spring due to Covid. I know it used to rotate back and forth for decades, but I think it's power points now..I may be wrong.

  6. I do believe Bluefield has kids from different schools also if not mistaken…. Also the running from down the road too

  7. I could be wrong but I think it rotates every year between C and D. I don’t think power points matters for the semi final.

    SWVA Week 3 Poll

    Not sorry Bluefield 🤣

  11. 2016 was the last time Bluefield lost to Princeton. 2016 is also the last time Bluefield lost 2 in a row. Princeton wins over Bluefield are few and far between. As far as I know, Bluefield was at full strength. Princeton played them close last season, but it's always a surprise to me when Princeton beats Bluefield. The Bluefield - Graham, Bluefield-Pulaski and Graham - Pulaski games are games that I would like to see. I hope I can get to at least 2 of the 3.

Radford seemed to be a class act. No trash talking like some other teams I’ve seen. It was a great game.

Heck of a game. Credit Gate City for about winning the game. They got the best of us up front They did an incredible job of neutralizing our speed. I hope our kids learn a valuable lesson that you can't just show up and win. Gate City threw some vicious licks on us. As for the Jenkins kid, he is all that is advertised. Actually, that's not true. He's far, far more than advertised. There is no way in one can tell me and make me believe this kid can not play MAJOR, FBS level slot WR with that speed and those hands. We have some guys on our team that have track speed. There were a few times when we were in perfect position defensively on some of those sweeps with Jenkins and our very fast defenders had the perfect angle, and the Jenkins kid would just "outrun" the angle. He has absolutely BLAZING speed. If this kid isn't offered higher than William and Mary, I will be surprised My take away from this game is not necessarily that Radford is "not as good" as thought. I think we actually are pretty good. I don't think it's necessarily that Gate City is far, far better than what we thought. My take away is.......Richlands is the real deal. They handled Gate City up front and we didn't. Gate City, slightly got the better of us up front. For a team (Richlands) that we blew completely out of the stadium about 6 months ago, they in my opinion have completely turned it around and are going to cause problems, major problems up front for Graham and Union in my opinion. I just can't see Graham or Union beating Richlands by more than 10 points. Time will tell. Lastly, this game speaks to the strength of Region D. Gate City isn't likely a top 6 team, arguably the 7th best team in 2D and they nearly won the game over the team in 2C that is right there with Glenvar and Gretna as the second best team in our Region. Region D is very, very strong and has some great football teams.

    Graham vs Richlands

The GMen, as bad as they played /lookeed/penalties vs Tazewell and considering how good VHigh looked against Tazewell, the Graham defense allowed Tazewell 150 total yards and Tazewell had almost two times that amount against Virginia High. Graham also had 408 total yards against Tazewell compared to Va High's 367, and Graham had 17 penalties that helped bring down their total yards. Also, the final score was worse for Tazewell against Graham compared to VHigh, and Tazewell was going to have a goose egg on the board without the badly thrown pick 6. All of that with Graham having few practices/coming off quarantine. I'm not saying Graham beats VH, maybe VH beats Graham, but the numbers above kind of show how dangerous Graham Could/Possibly be if they get out of their own heads. Even if you are a VH fan, if you look at the above, it has to have you a bit worried when you play Graham, and truly hoping Graham self destructs. I think Richlands is the real deal, and to me, the best team they've had since losing to Appomattox in a game they should have won. I think they actually beat Graham, but come playoff time, after the Graham QB gets his feet wet and gains comfort, and the discipline is largely fixed, I would pick Graham to win. Graham is so undisciplined right now to me that it's going to take more than 1 week to fix, and Richlands to me is very good. Good enough that Graham will not be able to just overcome the discipline issues due to the talent gap, because Richlands on the line of scrimmage, although not very big, is vicious, and not a huge disparity up front between the two in my opinion, but come playoff time, no way will I pick the Blues over Graham, and maybe not even Union based on the talent present on Graham's team that is evident from last night. Scary, scary talented 2A team.

Exactly. Galax was expected to win and they did convincingly. Just like years past they have a solid program and will win Region C this year. I do see Giles giving Galax some real competition in 1C in the coming years.

  17. Giles had to pull all 14 Sophomores up to have enough to field a competitive team. Most of the defensive secondary and linebackers are sophomores. Yeah, they're going to get burned and be out of position a lot, but they're also going to learn. Some really good athletes in that sophomore class. Need to get some beef up front though.

Giles played Hard tonight. They will make some noise this year. I can't believe that dang Buck lateral play still works after all these years. They ran it perfectly on that long Td.

    GW vs Fort Chis

I agree to a degree. Our passing game does in fact need to get sync'ed up, and the only way to do that is thru repetition. But on the flip side, we do need to win. One thing I've noticed with this team is that the WR's block VERY well. We found some rhythm with in the run game with the motion handoff to Fowler and countered that with Luke on the keep. I agree...It's basic, and sure we need more going forward. But given the situation, I wasn't mad at it. I did see a couple of RPO wrinkles that left me encouraged. I'm with you that we have to get Houston, Kirtner, and Walters more involved to be more efficient tho. I don't hold that pick 6 squarely on Luke, either. That was a play action by design. All the safety has to do is not bite and the WR comes to him. None of those issues irk me more than our tendency to reverse/fake reverse kickoff returns, tho. That's a whole damn soapbox in itself for me.

    GW vs Fort Chis

GW I was told returned 4 starters on O and D. It showed against Radford because GW had a whole, whole lot of self inflicted damage against us. George Wythe in my view was very talented, just inexperienced and thankfully, we caught you all in game one. Take away the self inflicted stuff and that game is no where close to the score that it was. Not just turnovers, but against us (Radford), GW gave up about 3 plays where the defender was just out of position. As in, missed assignment, youth type plays that allowed us to score on one of them and have a couple big gains George Wythe's defensive line is stout. They did pretty good against us and they smother FC. I've read on here where a couple of GW folks feel this may be a 5-5 type season. I don't know if I will agree on that. The inexperience only gets more experienced with each game and by game 10, GW, out of all the other teams in Region D and C, may actually be the one that turns out to be second best behind Galax for the 2021 season.

  25. I think we need to throw the ball a little more. Qb hasnt played in two years and needs to throw to get into a rhythm. throwing 7 times a game is hard to get in any rhythm. that being said. he telegraph that pick so bad. i watched huddle and he waited well out the WR was out of his break to throw the pass. needs to work on that. it would be nice if we would run more than 7 different plays a game and especially not the same one 5-6 times in a row. Get the qb on the edge and let him make some throws on the run. its a stagnate offense at best. needs a update or patch thats for sure.

    GW vs Fort Chis

I was impressed with a couple of FC linebackers myself. Safety made an excellent read on the pick 6. To be honest, the previous series, it looked to me like the slant would be there all day in that formation. Obviously, I was wrong lol! We still have a lot to clean up on the offensive side of the ball, but I can't take anything away from what Fort did defensively. I know what you're saying about Fort's offensive scheme as well. Not gonna lie, it was pretty evident to me early that we outmanned them pretty heavily on the edge. From that standpoint, I understand why their offense did what they did, but like you said, there was no counters, no "keep you honest", and no real threat of anything beyond Varney. 100% agree with you. And for the life of me, I do not understand why in the hell Fort decided to punt from our 35. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Brandon Harner outcoached Spider in that moment and left our punt return unit on the sideline. Spider got what he deserved there lol.
