Prayers for Devon's family and friends. Gone too soon. I enjoyed watching him play, a special talent and seemed to be liked by teammates and opponents as well. Rest in peace.

I can't imagine the profound sadness of those of you who knew Devon personally. This news breaks my heart, and I never even met the young man. His humility and kindness were so evident, it could even overshadow his immense talent. May God comfort you and his family in the coming days.

Had to upgrade to the Sports Package just to see the game last night. Hopefully alot of their games will be on FSN. It's worth the extra $15 a month im paying now if I get to see Mac on TV once a week.

Bro you can't be that damn heartless. A 25 year old young man with all the kindness and talent in the world tragically lost his life, and instead of expressing condolences, you would rather take a cheap shot because your suck ass football team can't beat Richlands. Absolutely pathetic.
Prayers for the Richlands community and Devon's family. I met him a few times in town and up at Marshall and he was such a nice person. He would actually take time to talk to people instead of brushing them off. Another young life gone way to soon, but heaven picked up a special angel today.

EHC87 reacted to F@lcon in Abingdon 3A
You can argue logistics about the enrollment forever and not change each other's minds. I will say that the biggest advantage of Abingdon playing in the local 2A district is $$$ for all the schools programs. Abingdon travels as well as any other team in southwest Virginia. The football programs are the cash cow for each schools booster's and athletic funds. In the past, the main rivalries for Abingdon were with Richlands, Battle and VA High. Now, in only a couple seasons, we have seen new rivalries come out. The Ridgeview home game had the biggest overall attendance of the season at Abingdon. The Union game at Big Stone had a very sizable crowd on both sides even though it was nasty and being televised which would tempt many to stay home and watch. When 3A schools come to Abingdon, they seldom bring any fans with them. That is one of the great things about small town football, when you have a rivalry game that is where everyone wants to be.

Listen, Abingdon is big and strong............ right now!! This is all Darren Reed's doing. They are still benefiting from his short time there.

GC walks thru Region D IMO, but Region C is REALLY good. If GC doesn't win it, a team in Region C will IMO. Dan River, Martinsville and Radford could all do it. Lee is really only other team with a shot and they'll have a much easier path in Region B (I believe they're in B, if they're in A it's even easier).
With a quick guard and no defensive rim protector, you have to play a little off on defense to stay in front of a offensive player. So Radford, a team with shooters, can for sure give GC problems because GC cant afford to play close and allow players to blow by and get layups.

EHC87 got a reaction from Irishman in Richlands vs. Appomattox; 2A State Championship Game
Best dual threat quarterback that I saw in high school was Shawn Moore of Martinsville. His passing was under rated in my opinion. Very strong arm and accurate as well. That team also had Nikki Fisher as its' running back. Fisher was very, very good as well.
Both Moore and Fisher had very good careers at UVA.

Wow. You guys are so close to staying on the high ground on this issue, but continue to slip just a little off the path. I'm actually disappointed it was appealed. What if it had been overturned? What would it have served? What would have been the message going beyond Saturday? I'm glad someone's level headednesss prevailed.

EHC87 reacted to SWVAFB in Thanks SWVAsports.com
I want to take a minute to offer my thanks to this Web site from providing
Us sports fans a place that we can post our thoughts and views about what
I would consider the best sport in Southwest Virginia and Southern West
Virginia, High School football.
In order for this site to be successful, which it is, a lot of hard work
And dedication has to be put in by a lot of good folks.
Thank you SWVAsports.com for your dedication, hard work, and sacrifice that
You have given in order that we may have a place in social media to express
Our support for our local teams. Job well done, and God Bless.
I know there are a lot of other folks out there that are very appreciative,
Just as I am. Again Thanks Guys!

EHC87 got a reaction from BigO in Projections/Scenarios for 2016 Playoff Pairings
The trip counter on my car read 265 miles for the Broadway trip. That was a long Friday trip as my wife and I drove back after the game. Hopefully the Falcons can obtain a top 4 seed. Can't help but think that it is a little advantage for us to play at home. Except Blacksburg, there really aren't any short drives to Abingdon from potential opponents.

Rumor, only a rumor. Someone said those tacos were made from Granny's freezer of squirrel meat. Since Washington County is now the US capitol of Dollar General with their latest store opening, could have been purchased there. Mind you only a rumor. lol

Is VHSL Helper putting out his rankings today or tomorrow? I'm amazed at the ability some of you all have in working the math before the official VHSL ratings come out on Tuesdays. I enjoy looking at the possible scenarios.
Hopefully Abingdon's win last night resulted in enough points to secure a first round playoff game IF the birds take care of business the next 2 weeks.

Prayers that it isn't broken and he can make it back onto the field at least one more time before the end of the year. I HATE injuries for any player.......the injury that ends a senior season saddens me every time that it happens to a player.

EHC87 got a reaction from SWVAgridiron in Richlands @ Abingdon
Abingdon basically defended against the pass. Howie was double teamed most of the night and Abingdon switched in some speed in the secondary by inserting some receivers (who hadn't played much defense prior to last night) as defensive backs. With 4 in the box most of the time, Richlands wasn't able to run the ball effectively.
I'm not positive, but I don't think Richlands got a first down in the first half. The field goal was set up by bad punt snap/handling of the ball. One of the media members reported that Richlands had 16 yards of offense in the first half.
Asbury didn't have his best night passing for sure. One thing I noticed was that he didn't seem to look off any receivers last night....paticularly Howie. This enabled Abingdon to make good breaks on the ball most of the night.
As a side note, this, in my opinion, was the best defensive performance by Abingdon in the last 2 years. Yes, Asbury didn't have his best game but the AHS coaches had a good scheme. Abingdon was also pretty physical (at least for us) on the defensive side of the ball. William Seymore, safety, had a really good game.
Richlands is a good team and didn't quit. I wish them well on their playoff run. For the disgruntled Richlands fans, give Mance a break. Everyone has off days at work but he is an EXCELLENT COACH. If you all don't want him, then I'm lobbying Curt Newsome (E&H) to hire him. You can always find room on your staff for a good coach and he would definitely be a good pickup. :)
