If you can get away with it I wouldn’t play the starting QB both ways

That’s true there is just a few cautionary tales especially if you plan on running the QB a lot just look at VA High last year. All I’m saying is you lose a LB your defense has a hole in it that can be fixed with good coaching. You lose QB1 because he get 20 carries a game and is having to make 15 tackles you get to the end of the year and the kid is a shell of what he started the season at

I agree if he can help you win go for it but I started that with if you can get away with it. If you got a kid that you can plug in on D and your QB doesn’t have to play both ways that’s the way to go

I think grahams biggest question mark will be replacing Connor Roberts and anyone else they graduated off that front. That have been the most dominant D lines in the area the past few years. They dominated a few games just snapping the ball to Clements or the Floyd kid last year. If one of those kids can kind of  throw a ball they could pull a Giles and line up in the single wing and roll thru the regular season again

A and B team is usually just Varsity and JV. It is a good signs they have enough young guys their to put together a JV 7 on 7 team though

They got to be improved right? I know they return a lot. They are really high on the young QB they have he has a pretty good arm but had 18 INTS last year. New coach but I would say the old coach will have a lot of input as to what they do. As far as the first game of the year, it is at Chilhowie so that usually gives them an advantage but I think Marion is much better up front but that’s just based on last year and Marion didn’t graduate much in the trenches

Today at GHS- Senior WR/ CB Braden Watkins signs with Emory and Henry Football and Senior LB Gage Sawyers signed with Old Dominion University.
both were All SW District , All Region and All State first teamers. That is now 4 players off the 2022 state champs going to play at the next level.

That kid is pretty good. He has the ability to make people miss in space is better than anyone playing class 2 ball in SWVA IMO. I am sure Graham people will throw Clements out there and he is probably a close second.  He made quite a few contested catches as well.

Then I saw his rushing highlights and wow. He hits the hole fast and you are not catching him once he gets to the second level.
Put this kid on any roster in the coverage area and they become region contenders. The fact that he makes plays receiving rushing and returning kicks makes him a lot to deal with

I agree 11 vs 11 might be a good match up for a half. All I am saying is once you get to the second half and Unions 11 has played 60 snaps and Science Hills 11 has played 30 (and it may be less than that if they are subbing) it makes a huge difference. Good job to Union for challenging themselves with a tough test but I wouldnt go into it expecting a win

Difference is Chilhowie had a young man that was heir apparent. I do think it was wrong if I heard correctly about bringing couple people in without a teaching job and wasting their time. money and effort. Especially that the experience level and success.
What does Auburn's guy bring to the table? I wonder if they just interviewed local coaches not to repeat what CHilhowie did?

It makes financial sense, although I don't worry about financial issues when it comes to Abingdon.  The long term fix is to rezone....but that would take money out of Abingdon's coffers.  It wouldn't be difficult to carve out  50-100 kids and rezone them to Holston.  Holston is sitting at 250-ish kids while Patrick Henry is around 350-400.  Extend Holston's footprint up closer to 81 and problem is solved.  The issue is Abingdon doesn't want to give up Watauga as a feeder school.....to much money in that area.  They want their cake and to eat it, too.  So, they get to wield that 250-300+ student advantage and collect M7 trophies.  It really shows up in the non-football sports.  Their baseball team and basketball teams aren't dependent upon football players....they have a lot of specialty kids that focus on their sport exclusively.  Meanwhile, the other schools have to have their football players play baseball and basketball to field a team.  It really isn't difficult to see how that is a significant advantage.
Moral to the story, there are solutions that don't require the other school's to "shut up and deal with it."  Take the Watauga kids and implement a lottery.....25% go to Abingdon and the rest go to Holston.  Its the same county anyways.

With Brown gone they are going to have to find Offense from somewhere. I did see a guy on the field last year that could make something happen anytime he touched the ball. Their JV squad seemed to be dead set on throwing the ball around the field like Tazewell does but they didnt have near the athletes or the QB to be successful that way. I am a big believer in the spread and it hurts me to say this but unless Richlands has a dude that can make something happen in space that they had squirreled away in the corner last season they may want to go to a ground and pound milk the clock offense

He is a stud however it’s hard to get recruited when your team wins 3 games your first 3 years of high school. I’m glad he is going to have a shot to play to play big college football. He is a great kid and works hard he deserves every bit of it
