Jason reacted to Union_Fan in Union @ Richlands
GC and Richlands looked to be very even teams. GC made some really big mistakes in that 1st quarter and Richlands took advantage. After that, GC slightly outplayed the Blues, but couldn't overcome that deficit. With that being said, I think both GC and Richlands are improved from last year, but not enough to take out the top teams in the region. Might play tight a game here or there as the season goes along, but they still have a lot of things to work on.
Brown is a good RB. Decent speed and runs hard. If Union keys on him, I'm not sure that Richlands can win any other way. I know that Coach Tarter mentioned in one of the previews that they would go as Brown goes. I think this Bears D will be really good against the run this year, so I'm picking Union by 21.

I listened on the radio. They definitely made some mistakes. Its obvious when they got things going they have some weapons. Like u said, they still gave up a lot of yards rushing and that would be concerning to me. Id say these teams are pretty equal when things are going right. Im guessing both teams are just below .500 at the end of season.

Despite the 92-degree heat, optimism was high during Wednesday’s media day session at GC. According to head coach Jeremy Houseright, the Blue Devils have 60 players on the roster.
That figure is nearly double the number of players from the 2021 media day and includes several juniors who have been away from football for a couple years.
Fleming said the positive vibes have been building ever since Blue Devils held a nearly three-hour workout that began at midnight on the opening day of practice July 28.
“This is most momentum we’ve had since I’ve been part of this program,” said Fleming, who scored three touchdowns as a sophomore. “We’ve got more depth so we can give guys rest now instead of having to play both ways all the time.”

According to the list given to the cheerleaders for treat bags being made for Meet the Eagles Friday night, Rye Cove has 37 varsity players listed. 4 Seniors. 10 Juniors. 9 Sophomores and 14 Freshmen. Probably the biggest roster for the Cove in around 20 years.

Just sad. If i were one of those John Marshall kids I wouldn’t even be proud of winning the state title. It’s like Golden State coming in to March Madness and winning it all, not impressive

The Marshall people seem to have no issue with it and frankly I don't know how it changes. on the court after the game, Cormany told the VHSL head, that something needs to change and the VHSL person immediately walked away without responding.

Here's what you do,and it's controversial. Win the semis then immediately after post on social media that you will not be playing in the title game due to protest. Post it to your opponent's sites as well. Don't spend your money on those tickets, those hotels, gas stations and eating establishments. Not only does Richmond and the VH$L lose a buttload of your money, they also lose the JM money as the gym is empty. The only way to fight the VH$L is to hit them directly in their fat wallets.Until this is done, they'll be no changes or notice taken.

His site was actually one of the main inspirations for four seasons. I discovered his site and wanted to ask some questions. I didn't know whose site it was but it had a phone number so I called. A nice lady answered and explained that the owner had recently passed. Talk about feeling small. But I downloaded his Gate City Spreadsheet and I still have it. The spreadsheet was available for a while on the Gate City High School web page but I didn't see it the last time that I looked.

If they're not breaking VHSL rules (and they arent), how could they be punished? The VHSL isn't gonna do squat, they're worse than the NCAA.

Probably the little things lost in history.. Field trip for the Cherokee bunch in 1939 who could have had a coach or principal with ties to the area or big to fans of the Carter Family. They were like rock stars then and at the height of their national prominence with people coming from all over to get a glimpse of them in the Bristol area when not on tour.
The above is just a guess, but I do know the Carter Family brought a lot of visitors to the area in the mid to late 30s after the depression had ended and people had money to travel.

Just look up the players on the roster of John Marshall and then look at the AAU team that they played for in the Prep Hoops site. The only Class 2 school producing tons of college players (some D1) every single year
There’s a reason
Ohh And if someone from Richmond sees this don’t be surprised if you see John Marshalls roster disappear on MaxPreps anytime soon
In the words of Johnny Cash what’s done in the dark will be brought to the light
Sooner or later God will cut you down

Jason reacted to BandanaVTDavis4321 in Parry Mccluer at James River, John Marshall vs TJ Richmond
John Marshall is the Richmond All-Stars. Basically, a school like Union (Big Stone-Appy, Surrounding Areas of about 7,000 people) and Radford (about 7,000 people) and they go and play a state title game against a school which has a feeder population as it relates to basketball of about 200,000.
1. Ricmond has open enrollment. This means, if you can get your kid to any public school of your choosing, then that kid can go there, even if your kid is not in the feeder district for that given school.
2. Coaching at John Marshall. It's either their Head Coach or Head Assistant Coach that coaches the primary Richmond AAU team. This means, those coaches are with the very best of Richmond all summer long, and where do you think those kids will go to school knowing their AAU coach is also coaching at a certain High School? This is what gives them the advantage. They have it set up to where Richmond's best, their main AAU team pretty much ALL goes to John Marshall High School. John Marshall is certainly a public school.
So, you have basically your 5 best High School Ballers out of feeders of 7,000 population (Union, Radford, East Rock, James River, Greensville County, Graham) and they play against the 5 best High School Ballers with a feeder population of about 200,000. Obviously..........not exactly a fair fight. It's exactly why Scotty V from Gate City raised a little bit of he** on the subject a couple of years back. He wasn't blowing smoke. It wasn't sour apples. He was spot on and exactly right for doing so.

Jason reacted to Real Sasquatch in Union, Abington, or Ridgeview?
Sorry, but the "t" bugs me. It's weird, everybody pronounces it "Abington", but it's "Abingdon". But I think Union is 10 points better then both. It's possible they could sneak up and beat Union if Bunch has a bad day, but I don't see it happening.
