    Union and Richlands

Mance knew the Union guys would be in attendance. So I echo what Insight had to say. They definitely just ran what was needed to win. The offense should look much different at Union. Richlands will have to play much better to win this one. Hope they do...Go Big Blue!

  2. Well, I was going to do a small write up about what I thought, but I would just be echoing for the most part what mv91 stated. I pretty much feel the same way but will pick a different score, I'll go with 27 to 24 my Blues, but this game does worry me even more than last years game. We have to be able to keep it close because our offense is just not as explosive as it has been in the past. We have some great kids who will play with all their heart, but speed is an issue this year and teams like Union and Graham and especially Bburg scare the bejesus outta me. This should be another fun game to watch, just hope we can contain Mitchell. I do wish him all the best at the next level next year ! I absolutly love watching all of the kids from our area make it to the college game no matter what division it is, but it's especially nice when you may get to watch them on TV and hear the name of one of our schools mentioned ! I just hope somebody ties his shoe laces together this Friday before the game against us !

    Union and Richlands

As a Richlands fan, this game worries me. Our secondary will definitely need to step it up. I think our run defense will be ok. Key for RIchlands is to establish the running game to hopefully open up the passing. Trey Browns ability to run the ball will be huge. I know Mitchell cant be stopped we can only hope to contain him!! As a Richlands homer (LOL). I will say Richlands 24-21 with a Levi Forrest 47 yard FG late to win it. See you all Friday!!!

  4. 2004 was the weakest year in the 23-year history of R4D3. Richlands was still in R4D4 (losing a state semifinal to Salem). Graham was dealing with a rebuilding season post-Bradshaw. Virginia High won the pitiful Highlands District with a 4-6 season. Grundy was the only team in R4D3 that could be considered "above-average" (actually, that Grundy team was stellar, at 9-1). Who comes out of R4D3? A thoroughly mediocre Tazewell team that was the benefactor of one of the biggest screw jobs in VHSL history. Grundy lost the 1st round playoff game to Virginia High 7-0 in OT, despite approximately 47 Grundy TDs being called back for some phantom penalty or other. Tazewell beat Graham in some 17-15 sort of game that set the sport back 40 years, and unbeknownst to the world Glynn Carlock would be dead 9 months later. Not the way he should've gone out. Tazewell took advantage of their gift from God the following week and won to advance to the state semifinals. Tazewell traveled to Gretna to face a team that obviously had their minds set on the following week. Gretna scored 56 in a game where they really let up off the throttle very early. Tazewell did score 28, most of which were points well after the competitive phase of that game had ended. Tazewell's 2008 team was far superior.

I think it will be another classic. Home field advantage just might be the difference.

  7. I watched this game last year. Central could have easily won that game if it weren't for the turnovers and injured QB, but Grundy was very impressive. Seemed to be solid and well coached. I think Grundy gives the Warriors a game until late. Central 35 Grundy 21

    Wise Central @ Grundy

Good but not great size on the line 2 solid running backs. vs RV they had success overloading a side and pitching the ball that way They will load the box and bring 7 or 8 every play but there pass coverage is not very good. Central should be OK in this one but Grundy is a better team this year than they were last season if they can cut down on there penalties and contain the Central QB they can give themselves a shot

  10. I just think it's unecessary travel...and there is no way to know who the 2 beat teams are in any sport other than someone's opinion.. The 2 best teams will be in title game We just don't agree on the cross bracketing....no big deal everyone has their own opinion on the matter

  11. Richlands played Gate City with a very closed play book. They did not throw the ball very much. Richlands run defense will be good this year, however the secondary is going to need some work. The thing people did not see is that Richlands played different players in different positions all night long. They was testing the waters most of the game. Richlands opens up the playbook and takes down Union. 35-28

  13. Cross bracketing begins in the quarters... so highest remaining Region D will host lowest remaining Region C and vice versa once it gets down to two teams in each region. How it goes from there, I don't know.

Tiquest Terry. Beck is definitely the fastest player on the team but Terry has a lot more athleticism.

Also Followed by a strong season in 08 that would have been interesting in post season had it not been for that controversial XP attempt

  20. This was posted from a good friend of mine and a fellow teammate back in the day and a coach and role model for our young guys in the community today! I want to take a moment and recognize what our varsity football team done last night. They started off slow. They had a lot of nerves flowing. This is because of their youth. A lot of them are freshman and sophomore players. They fought back against va highs first team and held them scoreless in the second half. A few big plays were made by this young team. They are learning. They are gaining experience. They are taking advantage of this opportunity at playing earlier in their high school careers. The coaches are instilling a hard nosed work ethic into these players. They are making them accountable for their actions. They are molding them into tougher football players. And more importantly tougher hard working individuals. That is a key ingredient to success. Isn't that what we want for our kids. To be resilient and goal oriented. Not look for ways out. Or find excuses. Now as parents and supporters In our area we need to remember success isn't a over night process. It doesn't come gift wrapped. We have to teach our kids to be supportive and positive. We have to teach them that when you get hit in the mouth you have to respond. We need to teach them how to respect our coaches and buy in. The negativity will eat out the core. This has been our problem for years. Now as a community and parents we need to get on board and support them. I want everyone to think about a teacher or coach who pushed you hard in the past. They are probably the ones you respect the most. Or learned the most from.

Fundamentals first, work on execution and be consistent. Just because we had explosive offense last year you can't expect the same this year. Yes the dogs were lethargic on offense in the 1st half but they started clicking and doing better in the second. The coaches will be fine. Talk about mixing it up, how about that fake punt? It didn't work but almost. These guys should be proud of their effort. The season is going to get much harder. Yes the officials were absolutely terrible. Don't know how they missed several things that happened right in front of them but they missed it both ways. Did it affect the outcome, no. Guys stick with it and more will see the dedication and hard work and we can build back. Be proud that you held their offense to 21 and they got 14 of those on short fields. I'm proud of what the dogs did last night. Just keep your heads high and continue to give it your all. Off my soapbox now.
