  1. Past hour
  2. I like that design too. The field is going to look nice. Somebody.showed me a picture of what it's going to look like. I like it. A lot of green and white and a thin black border around the edge. The bulldog within the "T" in the middle has some grey.
  3. Today
  4. That T/bulldog has been a major imprint on this town forever, the community wants that logo and the history that comes with it. I don't mind it, kids like it.
  5. The freshman might not had pitched for Richlands for a little bit, but she threw over 230 pitches in travel ball two days before. Richlands will be a factor, but it will be because of Rife.
  6. The equipment is on site at Tazewell and has been moved the last couple of days so I imagine everything is in place. I think the bulldog and the T both at the 50 will be a little busy too I don't love that logo anyway but it seems like the school is going to try to go to some uniformity and it makes sense its been too many random things for a long time
  7. Shocking but not that shocking news here. Coach Ricker has served JB well and will continue to in many ways. It’s a tough school to coach football at indeed but it has hope. The kids and athletes are there but the challenge is to get the athletes to come out and play at JB. Losing year end and year out is the current standard. It’s going to take a new leader and true program mindset to be established by the new incoming head coach. Hit those hallways and get the kids to come out and play. In popular opinion whomever takes over the helm needs to prioritize and establish on day 1 a new culture and identity. The weight room and nutrition needs to become a priority alongside a revamp of the entire offense and defensive schemes. There is a severe need to redesign the youth feeder programs- system and oversee the youth programs as the garden of future players . That’s where the love for football starts and the inner connection to the HS program is missing.
  8. I would've agreed completely with this a month ago. But maybe only slightly now. They have a lot of young freshman in the lineup that are starting to hit their stride. Over half the lineup is hitting over or near .300. Also over half have went deep this year. So bats are coming alive. The Eastside game they were off. Not taking anything from Eastside. They're solid. But coach started the freshman on the rubber that hadn't seen action in a while. I think the first game was more indicative the level they're on. Was tied in the 7th. They were also missing a key bat in first game. Again not saying Richlands will make ot to state. But i think they should give any team they face a hard time
  9. Tough place to coach football.
  10. Interesting late football opening
  11. Yesterday
  12. Graham's colors were maroon and grey until Carlock changed them to Maroon and off yellow because Carlock was a Redskin fan and wanted those colors.
  13. Tazewell did have yellow for a short time and sometimes do the throwbacks with yellow in girls basketball.
  14. Will Grahams field be Maroon or Cardinal Red? I am still literally UNaware of what Graham's school colors are basically for the last 50 years. Their fans tell me "Maroon and Grey" and it's in their fightsong, but I don't see Salem or VT Maroon as in......a little more purplish than red. I've always seen Cardinal which is NOT Maroon. If the GMen are going to stay with Cardinal as they've done since Carlock made that adjustment over 50 years ago, then why not just change the school song and colors to reflect it? After 50 years, a decision probably should have been made, lol. I've seen old football games on tape from GC, to Andrew Lewis to Big Creek and u name it, going back to the 50s and 60s. The old or actual school colors Graham reflected looked a lot like a moden day Salem. Not Cardinal or red, but Maroon (leaning to more purple than red.) Anyway, enough of my off season rant. Similar with Tazewell. Didn't Tazewell add yellow to the unis at one time in the 80s? I could have sworn when the Bandana Bunch beat the Dogs in 86 the year Tazewell won the state title, the Dogs had some yellow in their unis. This wasn't gold either. My memory may be wrong though.
  15. Equipment has been spotted on the THS field!!......and it's raining....
  16. It'll be the T and the bulldog in the center.
  17. Nailed it with simply the classic T from this outsiders point of view.
  18. Still searching last I heard 1 month ago, but Edwards didn't resign until Februaryish from what I recall. Haven't heard a peep in about 1 month.
  19. Have they hired anyone or are they still searching?
  20. I'll reserve judgement until I can see it but I wish they'd either do a bulldog or the T and not both. It is too much visually. I think the classic "T" would be awesome....if not that, a classic bulldog pic in the center.
  21. I'm hearing it could be a CoolBreeze as well.
  22. And an 8th grader who has the potential to be the best one if I remember right also.
  23. ? that would be a warm breeze blowing was hearing it may be a cool one
  24. Last week
  25. Union has some freshmen hurlers that will be good in the years to come, but the team desperately needs to spend some serious time in the hitting cage, and improve defensively, There just has to be a deeper commitment to this sport in this football town, or we'll stay middle of the road:(
  26. Well, no "school' does, at least to my knowledge. I suppose a school could put in a bonus for a coach that wins a title, but I have no clue about that. But, a whole other item is Boosters....private citizens on the side is an entirely separate thing, and they........can and do pay. Mike Smith at Hampton High for about 2 decades in the 80s and 90s made more money from Booster payments than he did from the City of Hampton as the Dean of Boys/Guidance Counselor/Head Coach at Hampton High. The late Don Dunford of Tazewell helped out Nick Colobro and Dave Litz. Dunford was a multi millionaire. A Booster and/or private citizen can do what they want. They can give money to a HS Coach if they choose to. A coach wins a state title and a private citizen who is generally a Booster can give the Coach a new car. There's nothing illegal about this either. As for "who does it," and how much paid and who pays......that's hidden info, but it's been done across the USA for nearly 1 century now. In most states, boosters (the boosters club) can not legally pay a coach for his or her coaching services. But, an individual person who is likely a booster can give a coach any gift he chooses, even if the gift is likely and clearly related to the coaches performance on the field. In Texas, lots of HS Football Coaches that win titles have nicely new F250s within a month or so after the title, lol.
  27. So what schools in Southwest Virginia give extra money to coaches who win?
