chipinbogey reacted to Pioneer in Greatest game(s) you’ve seen in person
It was 1999 (I was a Sophomore at JJ Kelly at the time) PV came to JJ Kelly riding a 34 game win streak. JJ Kelly was a team who had been the laughing stock of the LPD for years leading up to that game. The Indians were much improved going into the game but were picked to lose like 50 to 0. The Indians shocked the VHSL that night. Jumping out to a 13 to 0 lead at the half and holding on to win 19 to 14 in a classic all time upset. It's hard to believe that was 23 years ago, and again teams from Wise and BSG are getting ready to play as I am posting this. Here is the game in its entirety.

I would say it will be smart if anyone who has officiated or does officiate never puts an answer on here to this question.

And, no, I have NO IDEA why Lloyd left the Council/Whitewood thing out of the book.

Thank you for saying that before I saw that classless post, It's easy to sit all comfy and cozy and slam that bunch. Walk a mile in their shoes. You can best believe that were Twin Valley on our schedule, the vast majority of the folks in BSG would understand. There's SO MUCH more to life than this little game.

For the record, it is best to take assumptions out of the equation. With all due respect, we had every reason to think that we would be able to complete the current season. With a roster of 18 players, we have played with this many in the past, we expected to take our share of knocks this season but we also expected to finish the season. This wasn't the "good old college try," I assure you of that. Nonetheless, circumstances, which I cannot discuss, put the team in a very awkward predicament that the administration could not, in good conscience, allow the team to continue. Player safety became our number one priority and our hand was forced. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we would have never been in this situation and would not have been forced to make this decision and in all likelihood have finished the season.

Just from my experiences. The Cliff is by far the toughest place to play in 1A when it's rowdy. One set of bleachers and allllll that noise deflects off the mountain. JI Burton can get that way when they have something to cheer about, I've had to turn on the jets to get out of there a time or two. 2A Bullitt hands down. I've seen Ernie Hicks rock before, but as has been discussed at great lengths in many, many other posts, it will be a long time before it was ever like it was when they were really good.

The one thing the VHSL hates is lawsuits. They seem to do about anything to avoid them.

Speaking of home field advantage, name a place where you are most certainly getting a TD or 2 called back.
1. Richlands
2. Union

In my mind, the best home field advantage in 1A will always be Sandlick. Just a wholly unique experience. Ridgeview should have to play a game there once a year by decree.

Only 1 charter bus so only 55 can travel including coaches. Cheerleaders are bringing upperclassmen separately. Band can’t make it. No fan bus but they’re are plenty of people carpooling on the way up.
It’s an expensive trip. But the kids are excited. I know I would be if I was in high school getting to travel, stay overnight & play a bigger school from the eastern part of the state.
I think as adults we take for granted stuff like that. There are some kids that don’t get to take trips, stay in hotels & get fed multiple meals per day. Regardless of the outcome of the game it should be a lasting memory for them.

I'll bet the house on this one. What are you putting up?
Oh wait... I'm sure if a certain poster who may or may not be named @EH31 won't even pay up a Frosty after losing a bet, I'm sure you ain't going to pay up whatever you're wagering either.

Doubling down on Martinsburg being a powerhouse with no end in sight to their reign, take a look at their website. Look at their practice and event schedule. Mandatory character development sessions, optional devotional studies. There's definitely more than X's and O's being taught up there folks. That is what it truly takes to develop a winning culture.
