SwvaOG got a reaction from jeffro in All Mountain 7 District
This is something that annoys the hell out of me. First of all, the damn district needs an official website/FB page or something. Secondly, would it kill the individual schools to post the whole list and not just fancy mock-ups of their kids only? I've seen some schools post results a week before to other schools get around to it.

I don't miss it at all... except Pizza Factory pizza and Haysi Tiger football and I don't believe either even still exists. Obviously Haysi doesn't... but pretty sure Pizza Factory doesn't either.

No, this was a different one. Her kid was the starting QB and was replaced mid-season and they pulled him and went to Lebanon. I felt bad for the kid because he lost that season....you only get four years.

This. Through no fault of their own, they are really disadvantaged geographically. Ridgeview's location does have the advantage of generating unanimous support from the whole county but the population is still shrinking and you can just forgot about transfers. But the facilities are top-notch and the best this side of Roanoke and the county is sports crazy. They were pulling 400-600 people for volleyball games this year.

My daughter plays on the RV volleyball team that won the state championship last week. At the finals the announcers were horrible....called us Ridgeway about 5-6 times, Mountview a couple of times and Ridgeview the rest. They spent about 60% of the air time talking about the very talented Fort Defiance team that Ridgeview dismantled in straight sets. Even as the girls were receiving their championship medals they were talking about the talent Fort Defiance has returning next year.
I would love nothing more than far SWVA be annexed by Tennessee. The state of Tennessee respects eastern Tennessee far and away more than VA does SWVA.

Snake was my position coach in high school for several years. I've always liked his coaching style...direct, to the point with the right amount of snarl. He doesn't miss much. My senior year I had 5 interceptions and three of them were direct results of something he caught on film and if I would have been more disciplined and less "damn-the-torpedos" I should of had two more.
He doesn't miss much.

I’m not sure who (if anyone) is in line to replace him.
Rye Cove has a few coaches I’d give some looks at..

Graham is definitely on a run of talent. Reminds me of Appomattox. That one lasted from 2015-2022, but those were all home grown. Well, as far as I know.
Graham's started their ride in 2015 and hit the top of the mountain in 2018. They've been close to the peak since. I do wonder if the transfers slow, will homegrown talent keep up.
Regardless of where it comes from, the GMen look like they're set for 3-4 more years. I'm not sure how many more years Union can count on Lee defectors. As for Burton, they're pretty loyal to the black and orange from what I've seen.
Union is physical, but they don't have the monopoly. Clarke Co whipped us on the lines in 2015. Central whipped us a few years there with their "superclass", and so have many others.
I just hope we can out last Graham before apathy sets up in BSG/Appy.

I screamed this about RV two years ago. The Graham coaching staff is head and shoulders above the others....and the scary thing is, I don't think they do a particularly good job on offense. There's room for improvement there. Scary, huh?

People put their team on a pedestal. They live vicariously through high school football players.
Union is a good football team. It sounds like a strategy problem.

Maybe Union has become like Ridgeview and being competitive and playing in the region championship is good enough. Union and RV have problems but they are completely different. Union puts in the work, they lift and train and are strong on OL/DL but they have no clue how to use athletes in space. Ridgeview has had a good of athletes as anyone but they don't put the work in (lift and training) and don't build from the OL/DL out. They aren't conservative at all, but they just have some headscratchers in terms of how they get the ball to.

The guest announcer (the female college coach) tried but couldn't help not slanting coverage for Fort Defiance. Did anyone else catch her when she said she was over there recruiting them? And she mentioned that she knew them well. Meanwhile, she mentioned that Ridgeview was a good team "for where they are from". That, coupled with the one announcer calling the Wolfpack Ridgeway and Mount View several times didn't help either. The whole match was tilted to them talking about what Fort needed to start doing or what they weren't doing and not much was spent talking about what Ridgeview was doing and not letting Fort do.
Although it always felt tense (full disclosure: my daughter plays on the team so it always feels tense), Ridgeview trailed for one point, 2-1 in the first set, all match. The truth is they dominated a very good Fort Defiance team. The Wolfpack crowd was about 2.5x the Indians crowd and they were loud. I've never seen a far SWVA team come out so confident and emotionally charged in a state championship game in a long, long time. It is a shame the announcers didn't recognize that. Those girls deserved better coverage and more "flowers" than what the announcers gave them.
I do want to specifically call out the SWVA media. They have done a spectacular job of covering Ridgeview all year...Bristol Herald, WCYB (5) Kingsport Times, WJHL (11) ....they've been great and produced some of the best written articles I've seen in a while. Additionally, Dickinson County really got behind this team and packed the house at home and on the road. Those Region and State playoff home games probably drew 500-700 a game. The Radford coach was actually quoted in the paper as saying the crowd and atmosphere created problems for her team:
And this excerpt was from a Staunton based paper and quoted the Fort Defiance team:
