fishfan Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 My take, why promote from within? If the one you plan on promoting didn’t help during the previous tenure then why continue to swim in the same pool? If you want change (culture, practices, etc.) then make a change, make a difference. You can argue that the “head coach “ didn’t want to “do” what his assistants want to do, maybe the head coach didn’t think what they wanted was good enough to do??? I believe if you want change ….then change. Quote

bucfan64 Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 Coach Lambeau Fields was seen coming out of the Beer Cave in Tazewell the other day. Coincidence? I doubt it. Gridiron60 1 Quote
SpillBoss Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 This will be a challenging year but I think it'll be a real good opportunity to stamp in a new program. All of the kids that Harris coached through MS are gone, this is a new group of kids and a clean slate. This is a great area, nice facility, new field and wonderful fan/parent support. I wish whoever gets it the best of luck. Gridiron60 and Bulldogs52 2 Quote

BigWinners Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 A new coach will wanna install his offense and defense, I’d wanna get someone in there ASAP so they can start sizing up their talent and see what they can build on. I’d wager the next coach won’t be as WR screen and quick pass happy, I’d imagine you’ll see more deep shots with more of a power run game. Gridiron60 1 Quote

What do they return, skill position wise? and Gridiron, if they don’t return punts this year then something is bad wrong in Tazwell. The water is poisoned or somethin lol. Hell just get one kid who can catch a decent punt and have him fair catch it every time, that’s saving 20-50 yards per game potentially. Gridiron60 1 Quote

It’s not rocket science! I have no clue why Harris didn’t teach at least one kid to fair catch a punt. Tazewell has athletes surely to goodness one of them could manage a fair catch if someone just worked a little with them on it. Beats all I’ve ever seen & Ive seen a lot 😂. Hopefully, they get someone good in there that can help them become competitive. The more teams in our region that can become competitive, the better everyone gets. I had never heard of it before either. I just can’t fathom it. Your chances of blocking a punt are minuscule and you’ll def fail more than you succeed so then you’re just giving up valuable yardage when the ball rolls. It doesn’t make logical sense unless they were elite at blocking punts but that wasn’t the case either. Gridiron60 1 Quote

They return a couple of running backs in D. Viney (got injured early in the season). He's a small guy, but has good speed and is an elusive running back. Also returning Walker Patterson and Cole Price at WR, the younger McDonald kid could play RB and WR. They have most of the line back on both sides of the ball, they are big and with the right conditioning program, could be hard to deal with. I can see a power run game being successful. Even running a wildcat sometimes like Graham does, loading up an extra lineman in the backfield or something. Who knows what the new coach would bring, but with the big guys returning. I think the more conservative, the better. Quote

If the guy I’m hearing that is the “leading candidate” gets the job then it will be a stark contrast to what we’ve seen at THS the last four seasons. His teams haven’t passed the ball very much in the past. Quote

With the size and athletes, it seems like Tazwell could succeed really being physical and making other teams play in tougher, more phone booth games. If nothing else, it could keep a young team close against more veteran squads and anything can happen in close games. Real Sasquatch 1 Quote

I don’t think a 90-10 split is optimal for an offense but closer to 60-40 or 70-30 could present a lot of challenges for teams accustomed to THS being a more open offense esp early on. Quote

I know it may not be decided until later this summer but curious if there is a newcomer in the mix that might make it interesting. Quote
