Prayers that it isn't broken and he can make it back onto the field at least one more time before the end of the year.  I HATE injuries for any player.......the injury that ends a senior season saddens me every time that it happens to a player.

That's what I mentioned too....it seemed like Asbury just stared down his intended receiver and would never go through any progressions. I know he's a really good QB but that surprised me. I guess he just wasn't used to seeing his WR's triple covered at times and that would throw any QB off.

Rumor has it that Leonard was seen in Taco Bell with Falconman after the game.  I'm sure you know what the post game meal included :)  LOL

Abingdon basically defended against the pass.  Howie was double teamed most of the night and Abingdon switched in some speed in the secondary by inserting some receivers (who hadn't played much defense prior to last night) as defensive backs.  With 4 in the box most of the time, Richlands wasn't able to run the ball effectively.

I'm not positive, but I don't think Richlands got a first down in the first half.  The field goal was set up by bad punt snap/handling of the ball.  One of the media members reported that Richlands had 16 yards of offense in the first half.

Asbury didn't have his best night passing for sure.  One thing I noticed was that he didn't seem to look off any receivers last night....paticularly Howie.  This enabled Abingdon to make good breaks on the ball most of the night.

As a side note, this, in my opinion, was the best defensive performance by Abingdon in the last 2 years.  Yes, Asbury didn't have his best game but the AHS coaches had a good scheme.  Abingdon was also pretty physical (at least for us) on the defensive side of the ball.  William Seymore, safety, had a really good game.

Richlands is a good team and didn't quit.  I wish them well on their playoff run.  For the disgruntled Richlands fans, give Mance a break.  Everyone has off days at work but he is an EXCELLENT COACH.  If you all don't want him, then I'm lobbying Curt Newsome (E&H) to hire him.  You can always find room on your staff for a good coach and he would definitely be a good pickup.  :)

I think the biggest thing tonight was the AHS defense in the red zone. I think RHS is a big play offense and it's hard to have big plays in the red zone. When a team is inside the 5 it's hard to generate a big play because the back of the end zone serves as another player for the defense. RHS is dynamic between the 20's but they sputtered at the goal line. Those WR's for RHS are fast and shifty but speed is nullified inside the 5. Am I explaining my thought coherently? It's 2:07a.m. and I need to go to bed. Lastly, the play of the game for me was the int that JLA threw in the end zone. That was huge stop for AHS, and kinda lends credence to my above point.

I think Abingdon is picking up Pulaski as an OOC opponent next year.  Christiansburg stays on the schedule and Hidden Valley will be picked up if I'm not mistaken.

Tennessee schools have a contract schedule that is different than Virginia which makes scheduling those teams a little more difficult than in state schools.  There really isn't an easy solution for Abingdon's schedule because some of the traditional teams on the schedule provide good gates.....and the money is a very important issue.

Home seeding is nice but you cannot rule out getting a second round home game if you don't get a top 4 seed.  Just a few years ago Abingdon traveled to Broadway in an 8 vs. 9 matchup.  Winner was sure to go on the road the next week to face the number 1 seed.  One problem......Waynesboro, the 16 seed upset the number 1 seed Hidden Valley.  Is this likely every year??  Of course not but you just never know how things will turn out come playoff time.

Patrick Henry is having a good year, and so is Hurley. Glad to see these teams do
Well in the early season. The meat of their schedules is in the next month, just like
    Most schools.
It is good to see schools not known for traditional success have a good year. I have
A special place in my heart for PH.PH lost a player a couple of years ago when the
Young man was killed by his father. What a tragedy for any team to deal with. I think
That PH will be playing for their lost team mate for years to come. May God Bless the
Rebels from Emory. Our Hearts are with you. GOD Speed, young men!

Lets talk numbers, yes there are small schools that play larger schools, for that they get bonus points. Many larger schools play the smaller schools because of tradition(old lpd, schools or rivalries)I have never seen a smaller school which are successful (appalachia, pound, clintwood, haysi ,j.i.burton)ever say poor me ,we only have x-number of kids.they just get out there and play thier ass off.Do you think the kids care if you have 700 kid or 200, no they dont.Ibelieve everyone on this board pulls for the local teams ,if thier team is no longer in it.P.H is having a good season no doubt, so good luck, its time to play the game. IF IT COMES PLAYOFF TIME AND P.H. IS THERE WE WILL PULL FOR YOU AND THE OTHER TEAMS THERE FROM OUR REGION

EHC87 got a reaction from Ryan4VT in ROA.TIMES-Blacksburg to employ unusual strategy on kickoffs, punts
I don't think it's a crazy strategy, especially against teams with high powered, quick strike offenses.  The loss of field position, as pointed out by others, really doesn't mean that much against a Richlands or Abingdon.  I personally wouldn't use it against a team who is committed to the run and has to grind out drives....chances of offense making mistakes are greater on long drives than quick strike, speedy teams.

I'm sure the Blacksburg coach will allow the game situation determine if he chooses to go for it on 4th every time.  One side note that I don't think was mentioned was the elimination of a bad/dropped snap or blocked punt.....those things have a tendency to change the momentum of a game in a big way.

I'm excited that we get underway this Friday night.  Hope all the teams play to their potential and that no one gets hurt.  Safe travels to and from whatever games your are attending.  Go Falcons and Go Wasps!!

Still no sounds are being made. Congrats to the Dogs on a dominant weekend of bball. Also congrats to Ridgeview and Union girls for providing everybody with a great game Saturday. Winning a state championship in your first year of existence is a big accomplishment. I saw it once before with Magna Vista back in 88-89 school year with the boys team. Not easy to bring 2 rival schools together and mesh into a champion. Again congratulations on a great accomplishment.

State title number 15 for the Dogs. Holding back to back opponents at the final four under 40 points is pretty darn impressive.

Was a really good game. Mavahi led by as many as 14 in the first half and led by 7 or 8 with about 4 to go in the game but the Northside pressure and foul shooting took over and they pulled out the win. Mavahi had 1 starter foul out early in the 4th and another get hurt in the 1st half, and this really handicapped them in the final minutes. No excuses though the Vikings are 19-1 for a reason, they are a very deep and talented team. They just wore the Dogs down, but this game will do them more good than the 80-35 blowouts we've been having.

I wouldnt mind seeing my Cowboys draft him in the later rounds. They need a power RB / versatile FB to fit their system. 4-5 carries a game and 8-12 snaps at Wing/H-Back/FB. Good developmental position for him imo
