Hokiebird7 1,416 Report Share Posted October 22, 2015 I wasn't a fan of the cross bracket but a year like this year im a fan of it. The 2 best teams should be at state and imo the 2 best are from the west. I just don't like it because too much travel that shouldn't have to happen....if 2 best teams are on same side of state then so be it....I just think they could cut travel down some at least by taking out the cross bracket stuff....but I don't have any input on that so I guess it stays the way it is LOL
Bearcat Bob 491 Report Share Posted October 23, 2015 If the two best teams are on the same side of the state, what is the big deal? They may play each other before the finals? Okay, one will win regardless if it is in the quarters or semis or sooner. The whole point of the playoffs is to beat the team on the other side of the field, regardless of who it is or in what round. I, for one, do not subscribe to the "they both deserve to get to the final game" theory. No, you do not deserve any more than what you earn on the field. Play the game at hand. The 2 teams in the championship deserve to be there because they won games on the field. Unless Virginia switches to a balanced schedule statewide (not feasible), it is comparing apples to oranges as to who is the '"best". Haven't heard it but I sure hope they do it....just like the old days....but as stupid as the VHSL is it wouldn't surprise me if first round games would be 2A west #1 hosting 2A East #16 and so on LOL EHC87 and SWVAgridiron

GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 Graham wins and moves up 6 spots. Ridgeview wins and loses a spot....both were tied at 16 seed before Friday....weird! Not really. Ridgeview beat a near winless non-district AA school and Graham beat a district foe that had six wins plus everyone that Graham has played so far this season, with the exception of Abingdon, won last night. This week, Graham won't get that many points even if they win since Fort Chiswell is 0-fer this year. However, Graham has a bunch of points on the line in their last game when they play Narrows, who has 6 wins this season. Joryiklaf
Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 Graham wins and moves up 6 spots. Ridgeview wins and loses a spot....both were tied at 16 seed before Friday....weird! Graham picked up 30 points by beating Bland plus 8 rider points from the other games for a total of 38. Ridgeview only picked up 20 from their win over Marion and 5 rider points for a total of 25. But Ridgeview has 2 winnable games left that will give them several points. They are still very much alive for a playoff spot. Looking at head to head opponents might say otherwise. Marion lost to Northwood 18-6 and Rural Retreat 47-14. Bland beat Northwood 27-6 and Rural Retreat 21-14. Who knows what would happen on the field but I wouldnt short change that Bland team in this comparison. Chappy, GMan and redtiger

goose111874 967 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 Thought gate city would make it if they won out, but looks like they are gonna need a whole lot of help, but if everything goes right they could possibly get as high as a 13 or 14 seed. Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 If Gate City beats Central Friday, they will almost certainly be the 12th or 13th seed. There is still a possibility they snag the 15th or 16th seed with a 3-7 record, but it will take some help. After the VHSL releases this week's official numbers I'll post some end of season standings based on possible (not necessarily likely) game results over the last two weeks. goose111874 967 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 If they beat central wouldn't lee, gretna, Ridgeview, and martinsville or at least a couple of them still have to lose though because most of them still have 2 games left
LongTimeSWVAFan 36 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 If Appomattox falls the last week of the season (which I'm hoping for) we could have some unbelievable round three games. Appomattox at Union and Richlands at Glenvar.

Martinsville and Ridgeview HAVE to win their last two games to beat out Gate City, but GC will still be 12 or 13. Of course, other things could happen to change that scenario like Bluefield or Sullivan South losing 1 or more of their final games or Grayson Co beating Galax(unlikely IMHO). redtiger 1,742 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 Im hoping Rv wins out and pulls a good seed. I havent looked at numbers yet but Grundy has some wins as does Honaker, wins over both would greatly benefit Ridgeview. The Wolfpack has got to win those games. Hopefully Martinsville and Gretna lose some games
