lol okay. Union lost to a 5A TN school by 21 that would smash JF or MV, their only loss. If Gretna was so good, why didn’t they beat Glenvar? Radford also beat Glenvar by damn near 40, funny you didn’t mention that. That’s a fact too, sweetheart. Why are you bringing Glenvar or Gretna up then? Gretna didn’t even make the 2C final and Glenvar lost in the same game Union did.

this thread should be about Radford and their amazing season, not this dumb squabbling over who’s 2-6. You decided to try and rank the teams and try and belittle 2D football, I’m sorry you feel the need to do that.

Science Hill is a legit 6A school with 2300 kids. 5A doesn't help your narrative. Haha

Also, Gretna beat 3 win powerhouse Floyd Co by 1 pt in OT,  so there's that. 🤷

See damnit I couldn’t remember if it was 6A or 5A so I went lower bc I didn’t wanna be accused of inflating their numbers.

Glenvar would "roll" Union? This guy has to be trolling.

Roll is a troll. I'd say in all honesty the game is a toss up for the 2023 squads having watched both twice a piece ....but thats done....and I don't have inside info on what either team has back for 2024

Why are you even bringing Union into this? Glenvar would roll them and it's not even up for discussion. Fact is Radford scored with 10 seconds left to beat Glenvar by 5 and they beat Graham by double digits....you can doll it up all you want, but that is the facts....Gretna lost to 4a powerhouse Jefferson Forest by 3 and undefeated 3a powerhouse Magna Vista by 1. Gretna is no slouch and would also roll Union. You guys need to see football outside your bubble.

Union lost to 6A Tennessee school Science Hill. A school almost 4 times their size. Union and 600 students, maybe a few less. Science Hill with about 2300. They were only down 13-6 midway through the 4th, and ran out of gas.

Then Union beat defending 2022 2A champion Graham at Graham. Union then lost to Graham at home in the Region D finals.

Glenvar got their asses handed to them in regular season by the now state champions and turned around and gave them a run for their money in the playoffs.

It doesn’t really matter anyway.

The skies belong to Radford now.

Riverheads fans on the other board whining about having to play schools bigger than them. My how the tables have turned. One guy even tried to convince everyone Radford had 900 students because he “did a Google search.”

Augusta County is going to be redrawing boundary lines for sure now.

I didn’t expect the whining and crying to be so bad. My god.

RH did what I thought they were capable of this season.  Region 2A and 2B usual contenders are about the same but weren't as strong as in years past.  Those two are very cyclical.  Good none the less.  Throwing a fundamentally sound bunch in the mix that loves to run the ball and stays disciplined for the most part on defense is hard to stop.  RH is a fun bunch to watch.  They try to end every play going forward.  I imagine they'll evolve a little on both sides of the ball as time goes on and different athletes come and go.  Getting beat in the State Championship, well, I believe they've handled the transition well.  Congrats and good luck moving on

Lol, guys it’s not everyone whining. I am one of the few that post on both boards and will defend certain things. I have learned any talk about enrollment is a fools errand. I don’t care where we play and as I have said numerous times, Radford was the better team period.

I don’t think anybody here has a beef with you. But some of your neighbors on the other board are outside their damned minds. They can’t have it both ways.

I went to the game yesterday, just as a general football fan, pulling for neither team. But my god, I could not be a fan of RiverHeads. What a stale offense. Obviously it works, but it's so monotonous it's mind numbing.

Imo the speed of Radford took away a lot of Riverheads diversity(Counter and their Buck Sweepish play) and surprisingly their strength advantage on the line took away the FB run game. All the Gladiators had left was Super Power. At some point you have to be able to throw it out in the flats outside of the LBs and/or deep behind the Safties, Riverheads couldn't do either.

39-21, but if Riverheads converts those two 4th and shorts and possibly go on to score it'd be a different game. It's not like Riverheads got dominated, a few plays made a drastic difference (those two defensive stops by the Bobcats and the pick 6 near the end of the game).

I was surprised how Riverheads used CCC on Defense. He was playing Midlde Backer and dropping into a short coverage zone, which isn't his game. Spying Clarke a few yards from the los would have been a better use imo. That being said, I have 0 state title rings and the Gladiators have a bunch.

One thing I was surprised by, and I shouldn't have been, was the lack of knowledge by a lot of Riverheads fans: they didn't seem to understand the offense at all and given their success I thought the fans base would be more invested. Several kept saying things like "here comes the end around again" but it's not a end around(unless that's the terminology Rh uses) and "run something different". I guess fans are fans everywhere you go and some are clueless

I'm going to say it again, I don't believe RH changes/adapts their scheme as much as would appear.  If it's going rt/lt or inside/outside, they're blocking down and/or kicking out.  A lot of their success is simple math.  Count the number of players in the direction desired and add one/two more on them pulls and traps and odds are in your favor.  Radford did the same thing to keep Clements/CCC in the box.  Graham did that to Union's defense as well.  They didn't worry so much about backside just outnumbered playside and ran it.  Simple football, with a stud back (clements/clark).  Their defense struggled simply because of what they are, a power run team.  I'm sure they see spread all the time but day in and day out since they were 9yo, it's been power football.  It's a mindset that played a huge role plus some gifted athletes that aren't often seen in 1A where they've been.  Take away a couple of breakdowns, could have went the other way just as easy.

If only there was a scientific way to rank teams objectively, free from personal biases, opinions, emotions, and logical fallacies. Oh wait, there actually is.

I want to know why Glenvar is 6th. Shouldn't Glenvar be 2nd behind Radford according to one guy on this board? I said this on the other board. The best team we played all year was Graham. I don't care what Calpreps says.

Thanks! I've always found you to be a straightshooter and Radford folks would definitely know better than any of us Joe Schmoes which team played you the closest.

Congratulations to Bobcat Nation , State Champions! West is best!
