Not sure if it’s true or verifiable but I read a post that Virginia High did several thousands dollars worth of damage to Floyd locker room.

On a different note, anyone know when & where Graham and Floyd will play?

No decision yet on game time

Pretty sure Tim hayes said that it is a neutral site that Floyd gets to pick

Having seen the video, I'm curious about the technical foul call.  I saw the referee repeatedly ask the Virginia High kid for the ball and the Bearcat player just drop it.  But had there been some odd interaction before that?  It's the official's prerogative but there appeared to be some dissension among the crew and I imagine that's a call that will be reviewed and discussed quite a bit within officials organizations.

(Responses/comments from officials on this board certainly welcome.)

He didn't just drop it, he threw it away towards the bench and scorers table.  100% the correct call by the official.

I am more in awe of the 3rd tech that was called. That kid was pretty much standing in the officials huddle throwing his hands up yelling at them. How did no one on VA Highs bench see that and grab him. Why didnt a team mate or coach pull him out of that situation. You cannot act like that.

if y’all want a good laugh go and watch the very last fan that came out of the stands behind v highs bench. He literally drags his wife down the stands just to show how big of a guy he is.

The physical act in question is captured in the above link at about the 23 second mark.  Reasonable minds may differ, but that looks like more of a drop to me.  Still definitely an unsportsmanlike act that delayed the game either way.  And the referee was well within his prerogative to make that call.  But that and the subsequent technical calls really seemed to inflame the situation.  Seems like there could be some kind of teachable moment there.

Also what made me wonder if things had been chippy overall or with that particular player before.

Yeah, that's really perplexing.  I would have thought that the coach might have made some effort to reel in his player after the very first technical was called.

Apparently quite a few system breakdowns in that game.  Very unfortunate.

Before I say this i personally don't have a problem with any of these actions I'm about to speak of, I understand heat of the moment. When the richlands basketball coach attack a fan in the stands does that make all richlands fans bad, does that make the richlands coaching staff all bad people. Region championship game at Gate City when Jennings dad came out the stands and had to be restrained from coach baker, does that make all Graham fans thugs, or maybe just a couple bad fans or was it he was upset about his son being mistreated unfairly like Mozell dad. When Graham football team average 25 penalties a game are they all just a bunch of hoodlums or are they just showing passion for the game. When Floyd County announcers the whole game was bias for their team was they just showing passion for their team because their team doesn't look like Va High or are they just awful unbearable announcers like the Va High announcers, you see how these things work

Very well said and while I do agree with just about everything you said I do have to disagree abt mozells dad and the v high fans. I am sure most of them are good people but holy hell it’s like they all get that mob mentality and act like they’ve never been in public during basketball. When v high was invited to the wise tourney I was unfortunately lucky enough to end up sitting on the same side most of their fans did and damn every single one of them acted crazy.

There is absolutely no justification for the actions of the Virginia High parent.  Culture is a big thing in any sports team, especially in basketball. "See How Things Work?"  Are you kidding me? Things do not work that way.  Discipline is the issue, and that parent needs to be "BANNED" from any VHSL event.  The event actually happened, and it makes the whole community of Bristol, Bristol VA Schools, and all of the VH coaches look bad.  Discipline within the program led up to this pressure moment.  It is controlled in other sports, but wasn't controlled on this team!

It's human nature to judge a group of people by the most outspoken or most outlandish among them.  It may not be fair in all cases.  The magnifying glass is on VA High because it's not a one-time occurrence.  I believe it was last season at Graham that Coach Timmons had to be escorted from the gym during a heated boy's game.  From the video, he appeared to try to calm fans down on his side but then started yelling at Graham fans in their bleachers.  Players follow actions of their mentors and crowds can develop mob mentality when things get heated on the floor.

I'm not here trying to argue against anybody point I myself think things got out of hand last night, I'm also not going to blame the parents from Graham when they get like 15 unsportsmanlike penalty a game, I don't know any of the kids parents so I can't speak about them. A preacher can raise his kid to be a preacher but then the kid can go astray. I'm sure every parent in SWVA that has a child in high school is teaching their kids abstinence, now how many kids do you think in high school in SWVA are virgins

Again, your statement is total "JUSTIFICATION" of the incident.  There is none.  I don't understand how "ABSTINENCE" became the topic other than a less than educated "EXAMPLE".  That is assumption that every parent is teaching that subject.  Bottom line, VA High culture, on this team boiled over, and there is no defending it!

You talking the announcers at the school for the crowd or the NHFS ones?   I actually liked the NHFS one

This is a big part of the problem at Virginia High. Just take responsibility. Your basketball team was out of control and they had 0 discipline for a majority of the year. You can compare them to a million different schools or events but it's not going to change the fact that the basketball team embarrassed your school system. There should be consequences handed down starting with the parent and coaching staff and then the players.

The worst thing they could to mozells dad is ban him from events (which they probably should even though since his kid is graduating he could care less). Then the worst thing they can do to gallishaw is fire him (he probably wouldn’t be too sad about it bc of what next years team is looking like so what they should do is renew his contract for the next 3 years). If Lee does leave then that means they won’t return a single starter and the only player they have left with any kind of potential would be Poole they would have to go through the risk him transferring out if they were going to do anything to the players.

Yeah he was looking straight at ref, asking for the ball then dropped ball then dropped his head. my opinion (which only matters to me)  Va high player showed complete disrespect to the ref.  Va high coach should have regained his and his teams control and composure after that.
Sad that this had to end like that.

Va High and John Marshall are the 2 most teams criticized on this site, not skills wise but culture wise they almost look alike, Va High players shouldn't be allowed to trash talking, their fans shouldn't be passionate for their team, their coaches shouldn't be allowed to show any emotions, the kids for John Marshall shouldn't allowed to team up, so tell me that people that look like them what they should be allowed to do and I'll relay the message

I'm not embarrassed by what Va High did last night, the Va High fans I've spoken to since the incident none of them are embarrassed, who should be embarrassed is grown men reffing the game cheating the kids. I believe 3 starters for Va High had 3 or more fouls before halftime 🤔 then you had a police officer that doesn’t look like the kids for Va High pumping up the Floyd County student section so who really should be embarrassed
