No joke! It's been a little over 30 years since Galax and GW were in the same district. If everyone behaves like responsible adults, I think it will turn into one of the best rivalries in VHSL regardless of sport.

Sounds like the little guys invited to the party from the MED held up well. Nice! Side note: It's going to take some getting used to saying we're from the MED lol

  4. Injuries like Reed's and Justus's are why I think these benefit games aren't a good idea for the sake of the kids. I know that money is generated and split between the two schools, but it seems like every year there's some backbreaking injury for some teams in these glorified scrimmages.

  5. I forgot about that one, still just one playoff win in 36 years. Not a single kid playing today was alive the last time the high school in Wise won a playoff game. Nothing would make me happier than to see that streak end this year. I just worry if they don't beat Union they're going to be like a 4 or 5 seed in the playoffs and have a tough time winning their first game.

I agree that I'm more worried about Terry than Beck. Beck is only a threat if he gets 5 yards past the los. Terry is a threat anywhere on the field

  7. Yes you can relax it's just a game...win or lose we will still play again the following Friday night at CBurg....Guess it's just me but it's not Salem coming to Pearisburg next Friday...we play well we have a shot to maybe pull it out...we play less that well we will lose plain and simple...but I think a lot of people are blowing BBurg up...don't get me wrong they have a lot returning but we have beaten them SIX straight times including last year...I am picking Giles in the pick em but if I wasn't a Giles fan I would pick BBurg but unless they are more physical than in past years we should and I say should be able to move the ball on them...now stopping them is a different story....I think Terry is their best player and toughest to defend(sorry all Cole Beck 4.2 forty fans) but Terry is a highlight film with his quickness and moves RELAX SWVAgridiron it's just a game buddy

Granted it was Montcalm but like Bulldogs52 said it doesn't matter who it is. I'm a GW fan but all of us have to respect Tazewell this year. Those 24 young men came out to play. In the mist of numerous coaching changes. So those kids are showing pride in their school and a respect for their program by coming out. Even if they don't win a game oh well they are still busting ass to play the game they love. Best of luck to the Bulldogs this season.

Ok, this is what I think--revelatory, nope, but hope for this young team, yes. The Dawgs with their football program the last few years, have faced more adversity than all other local programs combined. They are young, they are few, but if they combine their determination with commitment over the next few years, they can bounce back. I know several wonderful people from T-Town and I think they rank right up there with the best of our local communities. Are there some fans and vocalists who have contributed in this downward spiral, certainly, but I am reminded of the scripture "he who is without blame cast the first stone." Do we want to be "stone throwers" to this young team, or be honorable and say "out of ashes these young pups can grow into awesome Dawgs." This is what I hope for this team, and I believe it can happen with time.

I didn't think Tazewell looked too bad. They are very, very young with Freshmen playing on both sides of the ball. Any type of injury to a starter will be a killer for them because of such a lack of depth. Line play was surprisingly good but they are small. Plenty of speed on the team just hope they can get in the open. They did tackle and that was an improvement over last year.

Serious question, doesn't GC always play right with union?! It seems like every year we get their best shot and then some.

    Realistic Expectations

I've got Richlands at 7-3 now without Justus at LB this year. This defense can still be good, but with him they had an opportunity to be special. I think the Blacksburg game is likely a loss, with Union, Graham, and Byrd as tossups. Still, with that 7-3 record they will be in play for a 2-3 seed in region D.

  18. Come on man...we had 2 sophomores and 1 freshman at linebacker...give the kids time...they just need some experience Our OL looked awful good and backs looked good as well...may just have to win shootouts until these young kids get some game experience Our staff will do another good job bringing these kids along...just be patient and don't be so spoiled lol...we can't have 22 Brian Mann's every year

    Great new site:)

Aside from needing LASIK after reading that radioactive teal font, that's actually pretty good writing for a high school recap.

He took a couple of shots tonight. Hopefully he'll be ok. As I was leaving, it was obvious he was in alot of pain. Good luck to the G-Men. This needs to be done in the regular season and should've never stopped IMO.

  26. Ive watched Union a lot over the past few years in their 2nd scrimmage(didn't watch them this year though), they usually run a VERY simple offense. a couple of straight ahead runs and a couple of easy passes. Ive been fooled by them before in the preseason.

    Battle vs fort

It depends on what machinery you use to attack the fort. I'd recommend a few good siege engines, perhaps some catapults with cavalry backups.

  28. Can we please not bring politics to this forum. Lets talk football. I've only been waiting 8 months to get back to talking football and it's much needed relief.
