    SWVA Poll Week 5

Also, for future reference, we are doing a Top 10, not 5 I included the ballots with only 5 teams for this week, though that may have caused the data to be slightly skewed Thanks to everyone for participating and I look forward to charting our progression as the season goes on

  4. And contrary to the bizarre ramblings of this board, Bluefield can hit as hard as anyone and has respectable size to boot.

    Bluefield vs Richlands

I hate I am going to miss it (church functions always come first) lol But anyway. This game as a Blues fan worries me. Our team speed is down quite a bit this year to say the least. Basham exposed that last week in just one half. We all know what kind of speed Mookie has. Our front 7 is going to have to play a great game tonight. The Truck will be a load. #33 was a load from William Byrd last week but after Basham came back in, I wish #33 would have kept running lol Sorry, I seem to be jumping around here. Richlands needs to come up with a good offensive game plan. Utilize some of the other guys on offense more. #44 should be given a chance to run the ball. Who knows, maybe Mance is just waiting for the right opportunity to give it a shot. #11 has some great hands and should be targeted more. The 2nd halves of the last two games have killed us. Part of that may the fact the defense has spent a lot of time on the field the last couple of games. I am looking for it to be a great game tonight. I am going to say Blues 31-24. Are those my Blue colored glasses talking?? :) only time will tell :) GO BLUES!!

    Bluefield vs Richlands

This will be one of the better games of the year in my opinion. No one can argue that these two programs are two of the top programs in our area. I have seen Bluefield play but I have only listened to Richlands on the radio. This game will be back and forth all night, but I have to go with the Blues in this one. If you look at the schedule of Bluefield so far and then look at Richlands, there is no debate and no comparison on who has had the tougher schedule. Other than Graham, Bluefield's schedule so far has been a cake walk. That is why I give the edge to Richlands in this game. Their strength of schedule will have them prepared for the Beavers and the rest of their games from this point forward. Bluefield is a run heavy offense. If Richlands can contain Mookie and tackle Truck and not let him break away for long gains, Richlands will win this game. Bluefield has a very underrated defense and they tackle very well. Richlands needs to keep their offense on the field as long as possible and wear down the defense and they will be just fine. If the game was being played at Richlands, I would say Richlands wins by 14-17 points, but with it being at Mitchell, they will win by 3-7 points.

    Bluefield vs Richlands

Well, you admit they're not going to make any of the changes you suggested, but then pick them to beat the #1 team in WV by 2 touchdowns.. so maybe they shouldn't make any changes?

  13. Before the Giles vs Radford game Friday they are having a fund raiser for Eric Burnette. Was told it was in the cafeteria and it's 2 hot dogs, chips and drink for $6. all earnings go to the family.Thank you Giles fans Eric is a senior football player from Radford High School who has cancer.

  14. Biggest thing that stood out to me about that article was how the MW coach talked about Lester. I thinking he’s looking at the wrong player. Not knocking him by any means but Lester is no threat all when he’s in the game. He’s just too inexperienced and undersized.

  17. I don't think it's whining about the travel so much as it's been higher seed hosts lower seed, aka power point winner. So, if the Region D winner has to travel to the Region C winner because they have a higher rating then so be it, but not just "because." Ultimately, it doesn't matter because if Union is fortunate enough to be the Region D winner, I will HAPPILY travel to Appo, Giles, Glenvar or wherever.

    Bluefield vs Richlands

If it was in Richlands, I'd be much more inclined to pick the Blues, but Beaver has a great home-field advantage (some would argue that it has to do with officiating, but I'm not going to go there) I think RHS can pull it off if they can build on the passing game that started to shine last week with Moir at QB and if they can shut down "The Truck" and Mookie. Thankfully the Blues have one of their best front 7s in recent years. I'll take Richlands to rebound in a close one. Richlands 28 Bluefield 24 Also, not-so-fun-fact: this is the first time since 1999 that Richlands has lost 3 straight games; before most of their current seniors were born

  21. The only foundation Reed laid was uniting the Wise community in disliking him and most of his staff quitting on him. Look at the turnover on his staff at Abingdon this year. I don't give any credit of Wise's success to Reed unless their dislike of him lit a fire under the players and coaches to prove he was the problem. Last year he had 20 plus seniors and lost to a bad Northside team in the first round of the playoffs. This year their schedule is weak. I would love to see him back at Gate City but I doubt they would hire him.

  22. When Chris Akers starts giving away home games (and thousands in gate revenues) to go watch his son ride the pine at UNC, maybe then will all the whining be justified. We also gave Doug 5 years, which is generous compared to what GC's doing after 1.5.

  23. I got to watch 45 minutes of Richlands practice yesterday since they wouldn't get off the field for the MS game!!! Lol. For them to have played the teams they've played thus far and be competitive is pretty impressive with what they have compared to recent years. Bluefield wins.

  24. Colobro is the difference between Reed at Central and Reed at Abingdon. I think in 1 more year after this one ,that difference may show again for Reed.....

  25. It's not players 1-11 that win you ball games. Is the depth of players 12-20 that win games. When a school has 20 total players, there isn't much depth there compared to a team with 70.
    1 point
  26. Guess I'm crazy. Don't know what he did at GC, but I know what he did at Central. Took a 6-4 playoff team and went 3-7 the 1st year, 1-9 the 2nd and relieved of his duties before the 3rd.

I don't know about anyone else, but If this guy is joking, it's just plain out aggravating in my opinion.
    1 point
  28. Why? He's the guy that only won 1 game in 2 years with a team that made the playoffs the year after he left with the same players.

  31. Graham names their score. Princeton scores either 0, 3, 6, or 7.

  32. A little of both from what I gather. Havent played any really great teams but have beat some solid teams. And from what I've read and heard, Marion is a very solid team that executes well and has some playmakers. Edit-We will find out about them, they still have to play Graham, Richlands, and VA High. Lebanon next week for them. They'll crush GC. Likely finish 8-2 or 7-3.
