Funny story about "little league mama's". I was helping the Galax Recreation Center a few years ago referee some 8-man football. One of the coaches, who happens to be in administration in the Galax Public School system, grabbed a 3rd grade kid by the facemask and started jerking the kid around while screaming at him for going downfield, rather than blocking. Mama, in full Army BDU's, came running onto the field and teed off on the "coach". She beat the tar out of him. The other guys asked us, "aren't you going to help him". Nope, i'm not getting between mama bear and her cubs!

Is see Hurley playing with a lot of pride and determination. Sure they are not the same team as last years squad, but from what I have seen on tape, their QB is an outstanding player. If Chilhowie plays up to their potential, Chilhowie should win by several scores. You have to tip your hat to Hurley High School folks. Hurley has 175 students in their school, and here they are playing again for a chance of Regional title. That in itself tells me something about the character of Hurley's squad. Congratulations to both squads for making it this far, and we pray for no injuries.

And the Union threads continue to go just like their games......riveting and unexpected.....more twist and turns than a "tween" show on the CW. LOL

Well that's not a good attitude. I'm sure the first time you got laid it wasn't the best experience, but you went back for another shot. Haha.

And I didn't mean that as an insult. Just pointing out that it's different. It's been that way as long as I can remember. Not specifically referring to Appo, but any area east of SWVA in general. Clarke Co people were amazed because our band traveled 5.5 hours to support our team when their own didn't show up. The support and packed stands that you have seen at Appo the last 2 years is what we have seen for 50 + here, even in down years. A 4-6 Richlands team packed out the 1000 seat visitor stands last week where the temp was in the 20s by game's end. Would Appo's fans do that if they were 4-6 and not expected to win? There was a game in 1968 between the Appalachia Bulldogs and Gate City Blue Devils that had 10-12,000 spectators (depending on which article you read). I have several family members that attended or played in that game. People had climbed to the roof of the school to watch the game because there was no place left to sit or even stand. People are CRAZY about HS football here. Gate City, Richlands, and Lee High have all brought their inflatables to Union's field. I remember a few times when Lee brought their horse and train horn. I understand why Appo doesn't want the train horn. Different culture. But we, here in SWVA, find it amusing. Different culture. Nothing wrong with that. Just different.

We plan on it, I believe.

From a Richlands fan view point, I've always found the fans at Bullit Park to be totally into the game, but totally respectful to the visitors. Like Richlands fans, they help pick up the players in tough situations and let you know they are behind the team and will be there when the team needs them. Great Fans, we appreciate their enthusiasm.

The article didn't paint a pretty picture, and when the commissioner of the officiating league is even criticizing their performance, had to of been bad.

In your alls opinion, why do we care about this so much? Why do people in this area take time out of their day to hop on a message board and discuss/argue about high school teenagers playing a sport? Some of us show up 12 hours before kickoff. We all have travelled 6+ hours for this. Simply, why? So many people have asked me this. I want to see if your alls answer is similar to mine.

Can you please tell me which "transfer" was recognized at the "highest" level because of Richlands? I think what Greg Mance has been able to accomplish is great for all the kids in our area. It does get old hearing many Richlands fans, coaches, family members, etc. Say that going to Richlands you are punching your ticket to a D1 school. Can someone kill this thread so we dont have to hear how great this Richlands team that didnt win a playoff game was?

It would be downright comical if this Hurley team made it to the 3rd Round while last year’s inhuman unstoppable juggernauts faded in Round 2.

Look for Graham's QB to HOLD nothing BACK today as he runs and passes all over John Battle. No college is HOLDING BACK from recruiting the very talented WR at Graham and today he shows everybody why. Graham rolls 47-14. And the two Bluefield schools continue to march towards state championships.

Chris Akers has done such a wonderful job (sarcasm) at Gate City the past 2 seasons that the school board is extending his contract at next weeks school board meeting. Rest In Peace Gate City Football! I can’t believe that this man is going to be given more time to completely destroy something that was the pride staple of our community. I guess I will just have to boycott games along with the others until he is gone. I can no longer support him after the way he has done his assistants and players. Huge mistake school board, HUGE!
