  1. Personally, I think they should have played it in Council.

  3. I heard that no one could agree on a venue change so it reverted back to Gate City. And I thought the only time coaches couldn't agree was in all-district meetings...

  4. I agree with you Stripes. I would dare say that most of the kids on Martinsville have never been to Richmond, so just the experience of the trip would be a lifetime memory. I remember when I was keeping the scorebook for the team when they won back to back in 14-15, when I see those young men in the community they don't talk about the games as much as they talk about all the fun we had on the bus trips or other things. Would they have a chance to win, not at all !! But in my opinion you still show up and give your best effort, the VHSL needs to straightened all this out.

  6. What a shocker, right? I’m guessing Virginia High wanted to play at home , don’t blame them & Graham was a no go for that. Maybe they could have done rock, paper, scissors , best two of three…I mean there are worse ways to decide a neutral venue 😂

  7. It is all about the package that each entity puts together. Obviously WVU has the Ace of Spades when it comes to a stadium. 95% of WV high school players would prefer the life experience of playing at WVU. Marshall is nice but it is not where WV players dream of playing. But you also have to show volunteers willing to fill hundreds of duties. You have to have corporate sponsors to provide meals, souvenirs, rooms, logistics, etc. Bluefield checks all the boxes except rooms and meals. This is why they tried to work with Princeton but Princeton really wasn't that interested because most of these businesses really aren't located in the city limits. Charleston checks all of the boxes. Morgantown and Huntington put in a bid to rotate the championships but all my information shows it was hastily put together and was lacking in details. The new director of the WVSSAC is from Charleston. The previous one is from Wheeling. When the last bidding was done four years ago the previous director openly admitted Bluefield's bid was a little better than Wheeling's but he was just comfortable with what Wheeling did and was keeping it there. No one else bid on the games four years ago except Bluefield and Wheeling.

  8. I disagree. JM is playing within the parameters of the VH$L rules. There is no real difference between what JM is doing and what Liberty Christian Academy is doing. The problem lies solely with VH$L!!! The lawsuit LCA won against VHSL in 2015 opened the door for what essentially amounts to legalized recruiting. I'm not a lawyer but I would imaging VHSL would have a difficult time from a legal perspective trying to reprimand one school for recruiting while being forced to allow it through the LCA court ruling.

  9. Cormany was the head basketball coach at Grayson County when I was in high school. The Cormany I remember is far too competitive in nature to quit. He's also perceptive enough to understand how important the experience of playing in a state tournament can be for the future of the kids he coaches and the community in general. Those kids learned a valuable lesson. Life isn't always fair. That doesn't mean you roll over and play dead. I'm not sure how teaching kids to quit when things get hard is worth an attempt to send a message to VH$L they aren't going to understand anyway.

Alyssa didn’t hold back in her post game interviews. She told them all the refs were “absolutely awful!!!”

  11. They usually do this at a neutral. Could it possibly be Richlands? It’s the mid-point between the two.

  12. It’s fair to say that about a coach like Cormany who has been there and done that but the kids may have never had that chance and to rob them of that chance isn’t fair IMO. It’s just my opinion. I never got to play in a state title game. I have been fortunate enough to officiate one and coach in one. It was special in both of those accounts as an adult and I could tell it was just as special to my players.

  13. I'm sure any kid would choose playing at WVU or Marshall over Charleston.

  14. And change up the style of play. Losing Reyshawn is a huge blow tho and I don’t know how’ll they replace him. With such a guard heavy team, why is Union playing games in the 40s? They should be pushing the pace and get more easy shots to make up for the half court deficiencies

  15. Markelle Ray put up 34 against Central a couple nights ago. I think Markelle gets player of the year in the SWD, especially if they beat GC tonight. I thought he was averaging the most points in the SWD with 22. Could be wrong on that stat. Reece is a special talent. Will probably get slighted being a sophomore.
