I disagree. The Big East can compete with the SEC & the ACC in basketball. Villanova, Seton Hall, Marquette, Butler, Creighton, and Xavier have competitive programs that regularly make the NCAA Tournament. Then you add in Georgetown's non con schedule where they played Duke, Texas, and Syracuse. I still think he will average double digits in scoring in the ACC or any other conference as long as he's healthy.

Great question. Who are the top 5 current coaches in SWVA? I'd have to go with 1)Turner (Union), 2) Wells (Richlands), 3)Owens (Wise), 4)Robinson (Chilhowie) and 5) Palmer (Graham). I'm probably leaving off some good ones but out of those five I don't see any of them leaving to coach at Patrick Henry. Probably going to have find a good coordinator or younger coach with less experience if you're PH.

Absolutely, especially the early spring window of the NCAA tourney, MLB opening day, the Masters and the English Premiere League. Once those are over I don't watch hardly any sports over the summer. Right now I would welcome just about any sport  to take my mind off the horrible stories related to the Coronavirus for a couple of hours.

In no way am I a Gate City fan but what John Marshall did should make them ineligible to compete in the VHSL. An AAU coach should not be allowed to to lead that and a high school team in my opinion. It creates an unfair advantage by blatantly recruiting players to create a super team.

Yes. 1 win out of 3 is an excellent showing for the Southwest.

Completely disagree with this statement. Look at the offenses a majority of teams run today. Teams are spread out wide to create space for drives or three point shots if help comes to stop the drive. There may be a maximum of one ball screen set before a shot is attempted. In the 1980s & 1990s teams were running offenses that set a lot more screens which brought physicality to the game. There used to be post players who could bang in the paint and score with their back to the basket. In todays game posts are content to shoot threes and not go to work down low. Teams are much softer today.

Yes, but those rankings are high for VA mainly due to schools located in the NOVA area, not SWVA. The closest schools to SWVA that are ranked in the top 100 are in Blacksburg and Roanoke.

I would take Ridgeview, Gate City, and Union over any team in the Southwest District. Wise would be more than capable of finishing 2nd or 3rd in the SWD. Battle and Lee would still finish towards the bottom of any district. We will find out the answers in about two weeks.

When did this nickname begin? I don't recall Richlands ever being good at basketball so to call their gym the "House of Hustle" seems like false advertising.

Marion might finish 5th or 6th in the Mountain District.

This game was a blowout last year in PHś favor and they didn´t graduate a lot from that team. Burton did have a few turnovers early in the game to give PH some help. This is a good size (PH) vs Speed (Burton) matchup but I think PH wins by running the ball and not doing anything to beat themselves. Burton does have an advantage in their schedule has been more competitive than Patrick Henryś so that may help in preparation for this game.

I readily admit I do not know Marion's situation very well but I don't believe travel ball solves the problem with youth sports. When travel ball teams form the kids who suffer the most are the ones who come from low income families  who can't afford to make the trips or pay the dues to pay on these teams. Rec league at least allows a majority of the kids in your town to participate and possibly turn into a contributor for varsity sports on down the road. It seems like a majority of towns across SWVA are turning to travel ball and I've not seen it pay off for many schools. I do see a lot less turn out in sports because the kids are either burnt out once they reach high school or they were not developed at the elementary or middle school level because of a lack of participation in rec league.

It is a small class but they are offering guys with either no other offers or competing with Liberty and ODU. 6 seniors is very small but I have a feeling there will be at least 5 to 10 more in the transfer portal by the start of next season.
