Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Since I don't have access to the raw data and it appears you do... Assuming all top contenders win out otherwise... If Appomattox loses to Amherst, and Richlands loses to Abingdon, where does that leave Graham? And also, if Appomattox loses to Amherst but Richlands beats Abingdon, where would that leave Graham? Obviously, there's a lot of football left to be played, and you never truly know how a game is going to go until they meet on the field, but this is why I'm pretty confident that Graham will be the #1 seed in a battle of 9-1 teams. That's a 10 point difference, and a lot of games would have to go unexpectedly for Dan River to make up that difference. Graham 9-1 279 27.9 Dan River 9-1 269 26.9 Richlands 9-1 269 26.9 Appo 9-1 267 26.7 Union 9-1 263 26.3 I think Graham would still be a solid #2 seed if there is a 10-0 Richlands. Richlands 10-0 288 28.8 Graham 9-1 278 27.8 Dan River 9-1 269 26.9 Appo 9-1 267 26.7 Union 9-1 264 26.4 I'll update this each week as the season goes along to reflect the guesses that I miss. Union_Fan 2,155 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 In your first scenario, Dan River and Richlands are tied, how do they decide tiebreaker when there's no common opponents? And that will most likely change. Will only take one game to go one way or another for either team. However, here is the list of tie breakers... (a) The Rating Scale-Considering all regular season games played against public and non-public Virginia schools and scheduled in accordance with the provisions of 68-4-6. (b) The winner of any games between the two tied teams if only the tied teams are involved. If more than two teams tied, and one of the tied teams beat all other tied teams, that team shall advance. © The team with the better record against all common opponents. (d) A team that played an opponent with an effective nine (9) game schedule (non-recognized opponent, i.e., home school or out-of-state non-public school, or inability to schedule/play a 10th game) shall be seeded ahead of a school whose opponents play 10 game schedules. (e) Schools that played an opponent with nine-game schedules shall be seeded ahead of opponents who played 10-game schedules. VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE HANDBOOK -141- ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES (f) The team with the highest winning percentage against rating scalerecognized opponents. (g) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's opponents. (h) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's VHSL public and VHSL non-public school opponents. face-n-dacrowd 23 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Still a lot to be decided on Monday as a LOT of teams can still earn bonus points in 1A and 2A West plus other teams still play Monday night... Here is the top 5 as I have it at the moment though... 1A West: 1. Hurley 22.33333 2. Galax 20.66667 3. Patrick Henry 20.33333 4. George Wythe 19.5 5. Chilhowie 19.33333 2A West: 1. Appomattox 26 2. Richlands 24 3. Union 22.83333 4. Dan River 22.28571 5. Graham 21.83333 Dont understand how my Rebels move from #2 last week to #3 this week after a win on Friday? Looks like a system that doesn't make sense. But lot of football to be played. Think if we go 10-0 we may be #1 seed? Just asking

Its not what PH didn't do its what Hurley did. starcityfootballfan

But lot of football to be played. Think if we go 10-0 we may be #1 seed? Just asking It all comes down to the wins and losses of the teams you play. You can go 10-0 and if you have not beat a couple of good teams, your seeding suffers. Likewise, you can go 7-3 with a tough schedule and get a fairly good seed. So, it all works it self out in the end.
OLINE77 50 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Hurley played a team that was 5-0 and 2A and won PH played a team that was winless and 1A. Hurley got more points because of the wins and the higher classification.
EH31 2,520 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 I would assume if PH goes 10-0 they will definitely have the #1 seed due to having a better SOS over Hurley going forward. The trouble with that is you have to beat George Wythe which would be a stretch. Would like to see it though!
rebel1 35 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Grundy getting through the rest of their schedule with only one more loss would be huge for Hurley. That's really the only team we have to hang our hats on for points.
SXSW 557 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 All the arguing and speculation right now is useless, win your games, control what you can. The VHSL will tell you if you get in the playoffs or not and when your have to play and more importantly who! Way to much time gets wasted on this every year, just play and let the geeks figure out the numbers.
rebel1 35 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 I agree with the whole do your job, focus on what you can control stuff. But, I also enjoy the speculation, the what ifs this time of year. swva_havok_fan 1,261 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Everyone has forget Castlewood. They are 5-2. I would think they can get two out of the final three and possibly all three. 7-3 might just get Castlewood a home game first round. 8-2 definitely would. Castlewood will beat Eastside. They have what it takes to beat Burton and Lebanon too if they play to their full potential and don't choke. That would really do Hurley a favor.
