No way GC is rated high than Richlands. The Union and Richlands game will be a dog fight. Look at the history of these two teams over the past 4 years. It didn't matter who they had or had not played, what their record was, what the predictions were, or were it was played, each game was a high quality, high octane, over the top game. These two teams respect each other, and they know the talent on each team. Two premier head coaches, deep coaching staff, great fan base, great community backing, and one heck of a ball game. So for anyone to say, stick a fork in either team they are done, shows the lack of knowledge of the history of these two teams. I bleed blue and beyond doubt hope that Richlands wins tomorrow night, but history tells me this comes down to who wants it more, which team has the biggest heart, and in the end, which team makes the fewest mistakes. Don't dish either of these two teams, you don't know what you are talking about.

If they have GC's schedule rated harder than Richland's than whatever site that is, is dead wrong.

The respect is mutual, 2 top notch teams with up most respect and class for one another. I can't recall a time I've read or seen on here of one fan base bashing another. Props to you guys

Class act all the way, no doubt. Noticed something in the picture that seemed funny and I know it doesn't mean anything, but the towel Jones is holding has a great "R" in full view. I want to take a moment and say thanks to all the Union fans an coaches that I have talked to over the past years. Everyone was very polite, and showed good sportsmanship. Use to talk to Union's assistant coaches during Richlands home games with them, and had a really good time. Great atmosphere at Bullit Park and wish everyone a safe and injury free game, and once again, thanks for the fans sportsmanship.

If the young man physically feels like he can play and the doctors feel it is ok to give it a shot, I would say go for it. If he was a Junior, I would definitely not take the chance but as a Senior, you know this young man wants to be out there with his brothers. This young man was a beast in scrimmages this summer. I hope the young man gets a chance to play tomorrow night. I would think his body will tell him rather quickly whether his Achilles is ready or not. If he has been practicing, his Achilles has likely already told him whether he is ready to go or not!! From what I have seen from him on the sidelines this season, he seems to be a great team mate and always encouraging the other guys!! Best of luck to him no matter what he decides to do.

I figured you all lobbied Miami to make your very own turnover chain. I mean, you already have that sickening stylized "U" logo, all you need is to have whoever duplicate that chain and paint the "U" orange and navy blue instead of orange and pukey green and there you go. :D Back to what offense Richlands is running this Friday, I hear somewhere they were going with the "oop de oop". Because after all, it did work for Jonathan Moxson at West Canaan, Texas back in the day. :D

Scott County School Board Meeting this Thursday, November 9th @ 6:30pm. I urge you to be in attendance if you are a Gate City Football player, parent, or fan.

How is the food there?

Union would not be #1 if they did not prove themselves on the field. My hat off to them for that, they deserve the position, and they won the honor of playing #8 which happens to be Richlands, which by no means is your average #8. This makes for a great 1st round game and make no mistake about it, both teams will bring the wood in this game. It will be well worth the price of a ticket. Put on your coat and wool hat, bring the hot coffee, because the fur is getting ready to fly.

My daughter is in band at Galax. School systems, especially those in SWVA, are strapped for cash as it is. Entities such as band's fight for every possible dollar simply to stay functional. I hope the school system, police department and community can find whoever is responsible. Hold them accountable and make examples out of them.

It is nice to see the respect each team and "most" of the fan bases for the teams have for each other. Because of the respect I have for the Union program and fans that I pull for them in the playoffs each year.............with the exception of course of when we play each other. I hope the Blues find a way to win this game, but if they don't, I will be pulling for the Bears to make a deep run and if they make it to Salem, I will make the trip to watch and pull for them. This game Friday should be a fun game to watch with a fantastic atmosphere, I will not be able to make it, but I wish all the fans a safe trip to the game and back home and also a safe and healthy game for the athletes of both teams ! Oh and "Remember the Titans" is my favorite fottball movie !

I know some of this stuff seems "gimmicky" that Union does, but the kids love it and respond to it. If it gets them fired up and another "W" in the record then I'm all for it. I would ALMOST run across the field in my underwear if I thought it would lead to a victory. haha

Rhodes is definetly an improvement and very good with the adjustments. But I don't think Tanner Kennedy gets enough credit for being the quarterback of the defense.

It doesn't matter what they're running or not running. If it's not true, then what do you get by lying? You've either given away a potential secret, or you've blatantly lied for NO reason.

Sounds like you should just tell everything the Blues are doing for everyone to see and know. That way they can't win, because your doing a pretty good job so far.

It shows both. Bottom line is this...........a coach will coach his or her way to eventual success or the coach will coach his or her way to lack of success, IF....again....IF.....one more time....IF enough time is given to get a valid statistical sample. 3 years, in my opinion, is enough for a High School Coach to show improvement and show signs of "turning it around" or "getting worse." I believe this and I've always said on this board that every High School Coach should get 3 years. That includes Akers. I also think he will have another year at Gate City and this will be the year that makes him or breaks him (2018). The talent is down some, and if he turns it around, he will stay, but if he does not turn it around, he will be gone. In my opinion, he does not turn it around and is gone about 12 months from this posting. Understand this one key component that makes it tough in SWVA. A Head Coach does not get to pick his assistants 100%. When I write 100%, I mean.....he doesn't say I want A, B, C, and D, and these folks will be PAID. This means, he would need a spot for Coach A who is an English Teacher, or Coach B who is a Phy Ed Teacher, or Coach C who is a Biology-Science Teacher, and the school board simply accommodates or fills the spot for 3 or so assistants and pays them. This is not just SWVA, but for most of the country. At larger schools, especially in the South, the above actually happens. Therefore, if the Head Coach wants his assistants (Coaches A, B, C, and D) there is a high likelihood that only Coach A gets a job and is paid at the school, and the rest would have to be volunteer. Well, with the economy in SWVA, how many can afford to commit their time and not get paid? It's the same across most of the country, unless its the South, or it's a huge school and football power such as in Texas or larger cities in the US that has boosters that will simply give 50K per year to the "unpaid assistants." What is my point with all of the above? In SWVA or any small school, you really, really, really, really, better have a Head Coach like the man in Richlands that knows what he is doing and can "coach up" his assistants, and the importance of hiring the right guy truly means a huge difference in success (outcomes) compared to the other local-small schools in which you compete.

16-7. Which is a 2 score win (cough cough @Ryan4VT ?) but I wasn't discounting Richlands defense I was discounting their offense. I expect it to be a low scoring game..I highly doubt it'll be a high scoring game because union doesn't give up 2 touchdowns a game and Richlands offense doesn't score more than 2 a game. That was my point.

TW isn't impressing any more so. Beating the likes of Hancock, Harlan, Rye Cove, I don't see the allure. Coaches have been at Lee too, nothing different. As usual, just more adults sending the wrong message to their kids.

If you are talking about both sides being full, then yes it is only packed when it is the Graham/Beaver game or whenever Richlands comes up to Mitchell. This season and last season, other than a few games when it was raining, the Graham side has been full or pretty close to being full the games that I have attended. Our attendance does drop if games are being played on a Saturday because a lot of our fans are passionate VT fans and travel to Blacksburg.
