    Fight?

The game was well in hand for Wise, and one coach standing on the field was jawing with the Clintwood staff essentially the entire fourth quarter. The game was stopped once to tell them to cool it, but the jawing and trash talk from BOTH sides was prominent. Cooler heads did not prevail and adults from both sides decided their own personal pride was more important than the youth they a supposedly serving, and providing leadership for a few days a week. As someone stated above, this is the second MAJOR issue in two years with RV, and I’ve seen it escalate a few times other than those incidents as well. Their bad apples right now are really making it tough for the good ones (and there are wayyyy more great folks over there than not so great), to shine. The culture definitely needs to focus on who they allow to represent them in a public setting. Sure you’re going to have loud mouths everywhere, but a serious adjustment needs to be made, especially with a great program on the rise.

I hate to berate Wise so much, but there's definitely a history there. Went to a LL Baseball tournament up there a few years back and the police were called. That was my first experience ever seeing police called to a LL sport of any kind. Talked to a parent and they said that they had never been to a LL baseball tournament in Wise that the police weren't called. After a while, you start to notice a pattern.

  3. Having coached little league football for 8 years, I can tell you there is no shortage of ignorance and stupidity. There's always that one mom that's talking trash or that one dad that's going to beat someone's ass. I'll never forget we were participating in the Big Blue Bash football tournament one year in Richlands. Our first game that morning was against Wise. They broke a long run for a touchdown right up the middle 2nd or 3rd play of the game. Their coaching staff started talking trash across the field to us and our kids. That happened to be the last time they scored. We proceeded to beat the brakes off of them. That particular group wasnt the most sports man like for sure. Let your performance in whatever sport it is do your talking for you. Keep your mouth shut was always our motto.

I thought some type of EMS had to be present in order for a game to be played. If that is not a rule then it should be one. With a physical sport like football, anything can happen in a split second and seconds can be the difference between life and death. I'd be interested in finding out what is said about this situation.

Bearcat Dad...I’ve been a Bearcat a few years longer than you. I’ve just come to accept that VHS is not and will not be a football school. Sure, they will have good teams every now and then. Sure they well have some absolute studs on occasion. Milton Franklin and Darrayl Wilson come to mind. But it is just a fact that VHS is a baseball school. I’ve been hoping to see an evolution to a total sports school for almost 40 years. It ain’t happening my friend. Enjoy the good teams when they happen but don’t expect it yearly.

This is not only the case in sports but in every aspect of life in 2018. The my way and my way only attitude is ingrained into society. From politics to pee wee sports there is no exception, no middle ground or working for a compromise that will benefit all. This is what happens when you teach a generation that their wants, needs, preferences and feelings are most important no matter what the cost. I can name sports program after program where some parents prefer losing just as long as little Johnny or Susie gets their playing time and all the sideline coaches have it their way. As far as grown men acting like children, a permanent ban from the sideline and stadium all the way to the high school level should be the punishment. It would go a long way in stopping this idiocy.

Not the image we want to project at Ridgeview... that's for sure. In the past two seasons, we've been involved in two ugly incidents (incident with the ref at the end of the Grayson County game last season) and it's just a sad, sad situation.

Last "upgrade" to the scoreboard, they just painted a piece of metal and put a new "face" on it instead of replacing the thing. Also if you guys love Akers so much, offer him a job in January. Sounds like schools should be lined up for him.

  14. Everyone has a chance, but have to agree, Bluefield is one if not the best high school football teams I've had the opportunity to watch during my 50+ years of watching high school football. That is for sure, one special team, and I doubt they loose a game this year. My hats off to them and I hope they go undefeated.

Fight? More like a scuffle. I’ve seen more punches land in the nursing home. But on the serious note, those idiots should not be allowed to coach any longer. I’d be upset as a parent. I’m not a soft person, but those kids deserve better than that. Hopefully those “men” were not the kids fathers. 1) Because it sets a bad example 2) Their dad doesn’t know how to throw punches.

Same thing happened against Chilhowie Friday night. Same thing happened against Battle. Same thing happened against Tennessee High. I can be the first to admit, that I’m not qualified to coach at this level. With that said, I can tell you what I’ve seen in 2A West football over the last 3 1/2 seasons. Offense means success, period. There have been one or two teams in that time that have had stifling defenses. Last year’s Union team, for example. They also had one of the top players in the entire state, who touched the ball on every single offensive snap. Our defense has taken many steps back from last year, while returning a lot of the players that were there last season, including our all-state LB. We have given up 30 points to Tazewell, 42 points to Tn. High, 37 points to Chilhowie, 27 to you guys, and 13 to Battle. Needless to say, there are some struggles there. We have a golden opportunity on offense, to move the ball on ANY defense in the region, and it is just simply not being taken advantage of. It’s ok though. I still love the Bearcats, I stand behind the coaches and players alike. I, like so many others, scratch my head at some things that happen on Friday nights, but none of those guys are professional coaches. They believe they are doing what’s best. I have a personal relationship with most of the VHS coaches and players. Most of them know who I am on this board. I don’t hide behind my screen name. They know I would state my opinion directly to them, exactly how I type it out on this board. I strongly disagree with how certain things are being handled this season, but they are paid to make those decisions, not me. I still consider them friends, and I love those boys that strap it up every Friday night. My opinion is just that we will continue to be average, with the way things have been going this season. If we know anything as VHS football fans, it’s how to spot “average”. The disappointing thing this year, though, is we actually have talent.

    Bluefield @ Richlands

I was surprised this game turned out the way it did, That 80 yard bomb right after Richlands tied it a 10 was a huge response from Bluefield but the real back breaker for Richlands was throwing the interception and then giving up that last TD before the half. You could really see the body language of the Richlands team change late in that first half. They were already having a lot of trouble with the line and Bluefield just wore them out physically.
