Some ugly football played tonight just about everywhere, but that's to be expected. Weather has been horrible for practice, and no scrimmages.

I’ve skipped around a few different games and from a quality standpoint this game is the only one even close to being watchable. So far the NFHS camera quality is terrible all around. Sad that all of SWVA got duped.

That’s the issue...they’re built to do that without human interaction. If the hardware and software don’t jive with game action...it’ll render NFHS useless.

It’s been a strange year for more than one reason. Of course the obvious and then Gate City Football comments on SWVA sports.

They typically dont come out. The school administrator just has to turn it on and text them and they calibrate remotely for these types of issues.

Did you all find more games? Last I heard you only had 3 on the schedule?

I agree this may be the strongest team but its definitely the least athletic team hes had in years outside of bradshaw. hes really all they got skilled wise.

I didn’t really think central looked all that impressive. Both of their td’s came when their drives started inside of Ridgeview’s 5 yard line. They did have a good defensive game plan of selling out to stop Adkins. Their defensive backs were burnt all night but Ridgeview’s quarterback couldn’t seem to connect. Ridgeview looked like the more talented team but Central was more disciplined.

Agree, broadcasting crew was awful...turned down sound too. Congratulations to Central. I would like to add , those stands could have held a lot more fans & still been social distanced.

Yeah, when we started watching, my wife said hey, there's snow on the field. They missed a bunch of plays on camera. Kind of reminded me what is was like watching an ETSU game at the Mini-Dome when the play came toward the sideline you were sitting on and the players vanished before they got to the sideline.

I thought it snowed at the park when I first turned on. Missed all of Lomax long runs he's so fast he outran the camera.

True! Unions offensive line and Running backs were very impressive tonight. It’s something to build on.

Watching Union v Lee. While I'm grateful to be able watch it, the camera work and glare from the field is brutal.

Usually I gripe about an early bye,but this one will be perfect. That week to get into football shape and fix some things will be handy.

Plenty of talent, just young and inexperienced.

Union has some work to do. Central is really good. The RV announcers are something else. 😂 NFHS for basketball is solid but football is a mess.

Watching the Floyd and Carroll game being played at Galax and the feed is horrible and laggy, there's a glare on the window it's being filmed through. I can see a couple of coaches with their headsets on in the reflection. Hopefully it gets better as local schools work out the bugs for the next broadcast.

True that. However, its dang near balmy for February in Smyth County tonight, the least they could do is open the window so you can see the field, rather than stare at the rain glare on the press box window all night. At this point, the free radio broadcast provides a better perspective on the game than the video does.

That’s the rub with how the region voted. Top 2 teams from each district based on Power Points make the playoffs. It doesn’t count toward district standings but does for the metric that truly matters. That being said, it’s largely a moot point. It’s irrelevant for the M7 because they all play each other, so the Power Points will perfectly track district standings. For the SWD, there are a couple of scenarios I can envision where it gets really squirrelly. First:(1) Tazewell loses to Riverheads with Riverheads going 6-0; (2) Graham and Richlands split their H2H; and (3) Tazewell splits its Graham/Richlands matchups. If my math is right, and presuming all beat the VHS/LHS/MHS trio, #1 would be the Graham/Richlands team that goes 5-1. #2 would be Tazewell at 4-2, by one Power Point over #3, the Graham/Richlands team at 4-2, despite a 3-way district tie. Second: Same as above, but Riverheads somehow going 5-1. You’d have a tie at the #2 slot. If that’s resolved by H2H record, as I suspect it would be, that would resolve itself. If not, then coin flip? Again, not likely, but plausible. All other permutations would mirror district standings, I think, unless Riverheads just tanks out of nowhere. You could have situations then where #3 beats #2 yet misses the playoffs. But considering Riverheads’s history, anything worse than 5-1 is awfully unrealistic.

The first game is a non-district game. So it won't count towards the SWD standings -- but I think it does count for power points. I think.

Having studied the NFHS operation in some detail...they go to the Ron Popeil school of “set it and forget it”. There’s really not much more they can or will do from their end...
