I want to say congrats on a heck of a season. started off slow and without the Punt Return....well..... Yalls O didnt surprise me a bit. I saw that coming and we was going to let a few big banger plays go like Mitchells TD run. What surprised me the most was the D. yalls D held their own and got through on our line at will. Scruggs could not throw the ball because he didnt have time. Great showing by Union, but Im proud of our boys going down to Bullit Park that was loud and proud of their team and coming out with win. 28 game winning streak is something to be proud of. Yall defended streak well. Mitchell is going to be good but I know he was out of position and that is not his game, but he did it well tonight and tried his best. He did show that he will be a great player on next level...hope he goes to Tech. Hope all my Appo fam, players, and SWVA fans get back home safe. Looking forward to many more battles in future.

I wanted to take a moment to thank @Union_Fan for saving @BlueRazor and myself a seat today. We had an absolute blast. It was also good to meet Hammer and SWVAgridiron. Ran into Havoc for a split second on the way out, too. Had a lot of Union fans come up and thank Razor and I for sitting with them and cheering for them. I shook my blue cowbell just as hard as I did at Stuart’s Draft last year. Hate the outcome, but loved the energy in the 2nd half. That place was loud. Thanks again to everyone for coming up to say hey or thanking us. Met several people who read but don’t post on here. Always cool to talk football with the fellow readers of the forum. Now let’s throw our weight behind Chilhowie. #SWVApride

I want to first give a big thanks to Union_fan. Me and Ryan were the beneficiaries of great seats at the game thanks to him and his family. Really enjoyed there kindness and the great game. Also got to meet Unions_ Hammer and he was a great guy. The call before half on the punt was a back breaker. Truly a terrible call. Unions fight in the second half was just awesome. Then the crowd got really pumped and it was as loud of an atmosphere as you will ever hear at a High School football game. I agree with the other post on the play of Appos defensive tackles in the first half. They were quick and good tacklers. Union did a great job in the second half and really dominated from the seconds half on. Appos speed and tackling was impressive. The difference in the game was the call before half and the special teams on return coverage. Also Owens missing the catch where Mitchell dropped it right in his hands. Great game to watch. Great fans and perfect weather. I just wish the final score was different. I wrung my cowbell so much I have three blisters on my fingers...lol. Thanks again Union_fan and Unions_hammer. We had a great time

After watching game film and seeing the stats of the game. I am not 1 for making excuses but Today I am UNION got robbed point blank. Blast me all you want but anyone who was there could see it unless you are a Appo fan.

What an environment! The entrance of the team with the band, cheerleaders, and AC/DC was first rate!!!!!! Loved the environment, fans for Union were pumped!!! Just awesome highschool football!!!! Gonna hold the Union/Southwest VA folks who said they would be pulling for us in the championship if we won to your statement. Hope you bring some excitement to Salem in support of the west!!!! Got ask with the big environment you promote, what you thought about the Appomattox crowd we brought. I was proud of our fans making the trip and representing!!!! Union D was the real deal!!!!! Mitchell is a presence on the field. Glad we jammed him up in the back field or before he really got rolling. When he made 2nd level he was scary big and fast!!!! Also a great effort out of Kennedy, when he walked off field at halftime I thought he was out. Tough kid there.

Congratulations to Appomattox, and good luck next week. Congratulations to the Bears on a great season, I hate to see it end for the Seniors on this team, a great run from a great group of young men. Glad I was able to watch you all this year!! From what I saw it was a class act from Appomattox team and fans. Very well coached. Much respect for the pre game prayer. As for the game, a tale of two halves.......Appomattox won the 1st half, and Union won the 2nd.....just couldn't overcome getting down that much early. Special teams was a killer......... The d line play from Appomattox was exceptional, kept the Bears struggling all day long. Hats off to both teams on a well played season. Good luck Appomattox, this Bears fan is pulling for you next week!!! I hope all that was injured today was nothing serious and everyone makes a full recovery. As for the refs, I will not say I agree with all the calls they made. I do not believe that a referee or a crew can cost you a ballgame. That being said if Union plays their ballgame, should be no questions of the out come. We lost special teams today. We gave up 20 in the first half, and 3 in the second half. So no the refs did not lose this ballgame. We scored 0 in first half and 20 in the second half. So hats off to Appomattox, you guys where the better team today!!!!

Congrats to Appo as well. Scruggs was difference maker. Graves was a non factor after first quarter. And where did Appo poster go? He swore Mitchell couldn’t outrun Graves, but he did just that on his long TD run. It was clear the two best players on the field were Scruggs and James Mitchell.

Kinda-bold prediction for 2018: VA High wins the SWD and finishes in the top 2 of 2D.

The three best teams in 1A are all from the East (Riverheads, Essex, and Sussex Central). You then have a big gap down to William Campbell, Chilhowie, Galax, and Narrows.

Bluefield will be loaded next year. Two excellent Juniors will replace Truck and Mookie. Only 5 seniors this year. Four of five linemen are back. Arnold Martin and Juice Edwards aren't Mookie and Truck but they are better than everyone else's backs. The interesting year will be in two years when this Junior class is gone.

Huge question marks in 2A in 2018. Normally, I’d be high on Gate City, because Gate City tends to overexcel when the rest of SWVA is rebuilding, but you know... I think Virginia High could surprise...

SWVA / Bluefield football seems to have a healthy upper middle class. Battle, VA, Ridgeview, Abingdon, and Lee all appear to be heading in the right direction. Graham is back. Tazewell appears to be improving. I'm keeping an eye on Marion.

That kid is simply just amazing. I was in barber shop talking to a kid from a 6a school in Norfolk and he knows about Mac. I was surprised. Cant wait to see what he does on next level

How was Union's shift any different from the shift of a muddle huddle? Probably none in my opinion. I think the officials just blew the call because it was so unexpected.

I hate cross-bracketing. In tournament style play, there is never a guarantee you will get the two perceived best teams in the final...no need for it. The purpose is to declare a champion, that’s it.

If calls on those 2 plays were split one per team, the outcome would’ve been affected...that was a total of 13 points either gained or set up on those 2 calls alone. The punt following the procedure penalty was bad, but with the offsides penalty, Union gets the first down and goes to the locker room no worse than 14 down...not 20.

The horrendous no call when Mitchell was behind held right in front of the official on the PR TD was bad but that call was worse.

It was right in front of me, too. A bad situation in the game for an inept call.

You guys can blame me for the loss. I watched the lady from Appomattox's FB stream until halftime when it's 20-0. Then I started watching the UGA Auburn game and lost track of time and when I turned the live stream back on it was 20-14 and Union had the ball.. I seen 2 plays and they punted. I must've killed the momentum

Here is a piece of advice for you: Don’t ever become a sports analyst. You are too inept at it. Also, don’t lecture anyone from Union about class, or the perceived lack thereof, seeing as you neither have wit nor class.

Appo was definitely not the team from last year, and 20-0 hole was to tough to climb back out of. Even though we were very close to doing so. Congrats to Appomattox on a great game.

I think it’s fair to be shocked. The team that lost to this year’s iteration of George Wythe by 3 playing for a state title? I mean, Riverheads is as much of a favorite as Appomattox was over Richlands last year, but that’s amazing to me.

It’s not shocking to those of us that have watched Chilhowie.

This is shocking. Didn’t believe Chilhowie had it in them, though they were my darkhorse in 1A back in August. What a season for them!

Unless I’m missing something, neither of these teams will pose much of a threat for Riverheads. Galax has 2:14 to win it or play basketball.

Fuente is a Gary Patterson disciple. He knows that staying at Virginia Tech is a much better situation than the pressure that comes along a job like Florida State. Plus, having Bud Foster as your DC is a luxury that Fuente would not have at FSU and Babcock is one of the best AD's in the country.
