  1. The way I see it no matter how the season goes, the seniors are winners on this team. They stuck it out and stayed committed to the team. I'll take that anyday over a transfer glory seeker or a quitter. The players that step out on the field Friday night are already winners no matter what the end score is!

  5. He got the "showing up late" stuff from his daddy. I watched Appalachia back the bus in one night and come straight to the sideline without even warming up. They kicked our tails and got right back on the bus and headed home.

Yes I TOTALLY agree with that. Turner really has to work on getting the ball out quicker on the shorter timing plays.

Uncle Percy says not to waste your time holding your breath hoping the VHSL will do something right. Uncle Percy says that the Entire VHSL is intellectual challenged (His California Political Correctness Class may be helping some), if someone had handed them the winning ticket from last night's Power Ball Lottery, they would have shredded it.

Footballfan08 There's a fairly large thread on here somewhere on the topic of consolidated schools and schools that once existed. Search for it, theres tons of info there if this is an interest of yours.

  13. If memory serves me right, last year up at Ridgeview, I think he only had one catch for 8 yards. But he does even the little things so well which makes him a great prospect.

    Union @ J.I. Burton

Tradition, we've traveled up state and they pull off on the side of the road and warm up in a cow pasture. I'm exaggerating a bit, but they don't like to show up til kickoff, and usually find somewhere else to warm up other than the field they are playing on. Carrying on I agree with others, I don't think Travis opened his playbook up completely for this game, he flipped to the pages he needed for the win. He's not wanting his big plays on film this year for the Blues to study this week. Mitchell only had 3 catches, yes he was targeted a few more though. Like the article said, Burton had more punts than they did first downs. Hopefully they can get their program built back up soon. I guess the JIB folks chanting "overrated" at the scrimmage last week against VA High seen what it tasted like. Good luck the rest of the year.

  15. Union was in control. Did what they had to do to get the 'W'. They absolutely could've done more but next week is the big one. The Bears will be ready. I was shocked when I got there about 6:20 and the Burton side was still 3/4ths empty. I figured the Union faithful would've already gobbled up their side as well. I hadn't been to Lawson-Fitchko for several years, but I noticed last night that a lot of people were standing at the fence behind the pressbox at street level watching the game, so I made a mental note of that, so next time I go to a game there I won't have to pay. Lol

    transfer rules

Without looking it up in detail here is my understanding of the transfer rule. As a student enters the ninth grade he can go to any school he wants and would be eligible to play no matter where he lives. After he enters the ninth grade and decides to transfer, he must make a complete move to be eligible immediately. If he doesn't move he has to wait 365 days after the transfer. A complete move means the family must move out of their house and move into a house in the new jurisdiction. The complete move has to be verified by both principles. Meaning the school he left verifies the complete move OUT of their residence and the new school principle verifies new residency. It looks like the VSHL has left this up to the principles of the schools so they don't have to deal with it.

    Union @ J.I. Burton

I'm not sure what it was with him tonight. I don't want it to seem like I'm hating on him, because I'm not. But it just seemed like he was in practice tonight taking his time and everything. With the talent he has that is so frustrating.

    Union @ J.I. Burton

Any win is a good win I suppose but I felt like Union could have played better. I honestly feel like we didn't show all of what we had. The running game looks good but o line still needs work. I don't think Turner looked his best, he made a few good throws but I totally agree with a statement above that he seemed to be in slow motion on screens and short passes. Defense looked good but Burton wasn't much of a test. Kicking game looks solid, and for goodness sakes the kids name is Falin..lol All in all a decent start but I think we are better than we showed. Poor Burton may win the Cumberland but it's not because they are loaded.

From what I listened to they started subbing once they went up 35 and the back ups couldn't hold onto the ball.

  28. Not saying that Big Stone is run totally bad--they sure have their pitfalls and high points--but they do drop the ball on tons of things. The seating at the football field is one thing. It could be more. The abysmal bathrooms is another thing. They really need to fix those up! I will say that the playground looks very nice: especially the splash pad.

    Mac McClung

I'm not taking anything away from the offer. P5 is P5 and that's a helluva accomplishment for a SWVA AA basketball player. I'm simply stating that if I want to make the NCAA tournament or at least sniff it, you have to look at the situations, and Marshall is in a better place than Rutgers. It all depends on what he wants out of his situation. If he wants to play the big boys, sure, go to Rutgers. But I don't see Rutgers making the tournament anytime soon. Just my opinion, of course. The choice is Mac's.

  36. a No duh. Did I say it does? Once again, for the hard of hearing......I'm curious about Lance's reason for favoring Abingdon. That's it.....

  37. I agree. It's all about matchups. How many times have we seen a 14 seed beat a 3 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament because the matchup is just bad for that 3 seed. QBs are a wash. WRs are a wash. RBs are a wash. Secondaries are a wash. That means it comes down to the offensive and defensive lines, and the linebacking corps to me. And I'll never bet against Wade, Addison, Holmes, Mance and company.

  38. Unions passing game is nothing to snub. Gavin and Mitchell are two of the best WR this area has. And for the most part, we held their passing game in check. I think Richlands secondary can cover the Falcons receivers enough. But can Abingdon cover Richlands? This will be a fun game.
