Haven't posted on here in a while, but everybody needs to pray for Graham's Michael Mason who appears to have suffered a very serious looking injury. I hope and pray that this young man is ok.

  6. And UVA said Graham didn't hold back. ;) It's OK, we got players with grandkids. Lol

  7. Ah, okay. And yeah it was around the 20, right in front of where I sit. But that to me was just Union showing it's physical dominance, they moved the ball thru the gun most of the game until inside the ten then went T when close. I will give Graham one piece of advice-punt or kick off to the kid that returns for Union. He's a scrub. Dude can't make a play if his life depends on it. So you guys that may know the Graham staff or players, I really think you should advocate punting deep.

  8. So you said, " I promise you Graham is the only team in region d that can give us a good game." Are you then saying Richlands didn't give you a good game? That is the dumbest statement I've ever heard. Take two weeks off this board then quit

  9. JFC One-Allen will be the best QB Union has seen. Full stop. The kid from Battle had some success scrambling, I'm worried what Allen might do with Union having to command so many resources to stopping other athletes. (Except maybe throwing the deep ball, that kid from LCC was dropping dimes but that's a 0-10 team. I'll give the QB on the 11-1, #2 team the edge on that alone) Two-All this "Union and three yards cloud of dust harrumph, all we gotta do!", Have you people watched Union play? Very few drives are not broken open by a 30-40 yard rush. That's a POSITIVE. Don't hide from it. We likely won't outrun Graham for 80 yard TDs, but I'll take a drive that has four 20 yd runs with a TD at the end. If Union comes out in the T and tries to just go up the gut for four yards a play, we will lose. Simple. Graham will get a couple stops, score once or twice, have Union behind the 8-ball and Union loses all game control. Gotta attack, be dynamic, score points. Call those counter plays that seemed to average 40ypc last night, but don't abandon the jet sweep. Three-I can't see a 21-14 game. These offenses are just too good. If Graham can't hold up at the LOS on defense, Union will get points. Probably 28 at least. If Union can't contain Allen and Cooke or Lester get loose, Graham will get points. Probably 28 at least. I have a couple huge red flags that I'm not even gonna post bc they worry me so much with Graham's speed. It's not about any single Union player, it's about a unit that gave up big plays CONSISTENTLY all year long. Itsounds like I'm trashing someone if I don't post it. It's the kickoff unit. Gotta do something there or Graham could get points there. If you're gonna discount Union being held to 13 by RHS because of "rivalry game" or whatever, don't then mention RHS holding Graham in check. Those two teams aren't rivals?? RHS got to play Union twice, that helps a ton. But it's not RHS-GHS that gives me most hope, it's Giles-GHS. Union can take cues from how Giles was able to fight back despite being behind big and almost win. Union is better in almost all areas than Giles IMO, so that gives me hope while other games (Graham-FC scares me to death) worry me. I'll take Union 34-32

  10. Only one can throw and catch the ball at a time too. However, Graham and Union both can't focus on just one player or formation. Lot's of play makers for both teams to defend. That's what makes this a great matchup!
    2 points
  11. That has been said every week. Union hasn't seen an o like we have. Union can't defend the pass. Union isn't ready for our running back. Union can't keep up with our speed. Don't get me wrong, Graham is a very balanced team but Union has faced a running back just as good (Ford from Marion) and a QB just as good (Letcher Co kid, John Battle kid, Marion kid) all of whom we have kept out of the end zone and intercepted. Union is battle tested just like Graham. The difference is Unions defense. I sat at the game last night and a man behind me was talking with his wife. He was throwing out coaching terms and so on in a central VA accent, figured he was scouting the game for someone from regions a or b. Either way, he said that Unions defense is by far the best he has seen anywhere in 2A. He was truly impressed with how we contained Marion's backs. By the third quarter he was saying watch Marion start passing and get back in the game. Union had a pick and plenty of hurries causing incompletions and a sack or two. By the fourth quarter he told his buddy "this may be unions year to win. I did not expect to such a dominate game. I thought Marion would have kept it close". Union has faced an o like Graham but it's been over three or four different teams, never all together on one team but I promise Graham hasn't faced a d like union.

  14. No disrespect to Grayson, but after watching almost a half of football, how in the hell did they beat Galax and Ridgeview? Either Graham is for real or Galax and Ridgeview were very overrated. I’m going with Graham is for real! 34-0 Graham

  18. I'm not a t formation fan all. I've always believed in the I formation but union is running the t/wildcat better and better each game. Since week 2 we haven't passed the ball much at all and every team has stacked the box with 8 or more and we have handled each and every one of them with our multiple play makers. I promise u Graham is the only team in region d that can give us a good game but Union is tougher than anyone wants to admit. That guy behind me last night from central VA was bad mouthing us at the start of the game and by the end he was staying that union is by far the best team he had seen this year and has the best shot to win state of any team in swva. In my humble opinion region d will win state. Graham may win Saturday but I promise the bears will be the best team they will face this season

  21. The QB from Letcher was by far the best passing QB Union has seen this year. The kid could throw it 50 yards and put it right in the hands of his receiver. He was the best scrambling QB also. That was all in the first half. Adjustments were made and he wasn't a factor at all in the 2nd half. Battle's QB was the best running QB we've seen. Marion's QB looked great in warm-ups, but was a non-factor in the game. According to Battle's coach, they didn't have any trouble moving the ball on Graham, but turnovers killed them. Have only seen video of Graham. Obviously, they have lots of athletes and speed. Hard to judge that speed from film. Union is in for a tough game. They HAVE to control the line and conduct time consuming drives to win. They CAN'T allow Graham to get 2 or 3 scores ahead. We're simply not built for comebacks unless we miraculously find a passing game. We will need to pressure Allen without giving him lanes to escape the pocket. Going to be a fun game, and I really think the pressure is on Graham more than Union. Not sure how many of Graham's current team came to BSG in 2015, but I remember this quote from Palmer in the BDT.. “We play in the Bluefield and Graham game so they can’t bring nothing that we haven’t seen before as far as a crowd goes,” Graham head coach Tony Palmer said. “We could care less about what their crowd is going to be like, we are just concerned with what happens on the field... But after some communication issues, false starts and time outs the environment did make a difference. Maybe not in the outcome of the game per se, but it did on some plays. Maybe those plays turn out to be key plays and then affect the outcome. Just hope The Park is as lively on a Sat afternoon as it is on Friday night.

  23. Yes sir. And any can run it from a base formation. The thing is, Cooke doesn’t seem to like contact on offense. Goes out of bounds a lot. I’m not bashing him. Dandy of a ball player. Do not twist my words please. My question is, can he handle getting snakes in the mouth? A lot? All of our backs, even the smallest one, will lower the boom on people. And our Front seven has been fantastic this year. But our LB’s have been rock solid as well. They like to hit and track the play very well. Great disciplined corps. People say we don’t cover the pass well. Sure we have gave up some yardage. Who doesn’t. But we also only give up 10.5 PPG. Motown West had a fast defense. Couldn’t handle the pounding they got every play. We are a Turner coached team. Smash mouth is a way of life. If graham can’t with stand the hits, it’ll be a tough night. But if they go toe to toe, could have a great game. I still think Union comes out on top.

  24. That was my thoughts too.. but I don't think people were going to take my word for it. Thanks for backing that up. It's amazing to see the progression that Allen has made from game one until now. There were many that questioned who the starter should be, especially after the Bluefied loss and after Lester started and played well at QB when Allen was hurt two games. Since coming back from the sprained ankle Allen has literally put Graham on his back every week. Everyone knows about Cooke and how good he is but Cam has taken over the games lately. He's the only reason Graham pulled it out against Richlands. Richlands limited Cooke and Lester but they couldn't stop Allen. The next week he accounted for 7 touchdowns against Fort Chiswell. Last night he threw 4 touchdowns, ran for 1, and had a pick6 on defense. He's an awesome athlete. If union wants to win then you need to dedicate the defense to stopping Allen more so than Cooke.

  25. Allen will definetly be the best QB we've played. I've seen him in person and can verify that. And it's not even close to be honest.
    1 point
  26. Yeah they did.. but that was kind of my point. Richlands controlled the ball for the most part and held Grahams offense in check for most of the game and Graham pulled it out in overtime. They did the same thing in overtime vs Giles. I wasn't saying because they beat Richlands they should beat Union.. I'm saying that Graham has been Battle tested for games like this.

  27. Letcher Co qb is just as good. Marion's qb is right behind grahams qb. John battles qb had probably one of the best set of legs for scrambling in region d. Graham is no joke but no Richlands d is not as good as unions. It's probably the closest to ours talent wise but not better. Bluefields d I have not seen in person to make a judgment call on. Everyone wants to say Richlands held union to 13 which they did. Guys that's a rivalry game and we know how rivalry games go. They are very seldom a blow out. I talked about that last week. Marion fans saying Richlands held y'all to 13. Look at last night and the rest of the season and see what union has done to everyone besides Richlands. We hammer them. I'm not saying we will hammer Graham but I promise this. It's hard for grahams offense to score when they don't have the ball. Union is playing ball control offense and shut down d. If union can keep the ball away from Graham and stop Graham on at least two drives (which is very reasonable) then union wins.

  28. If you think Marion's QB or John Battle's QB is just as good as Cam Allen from Graham then you're going to be disappointed Saturday night. Marion isn't a passing team so if you're sacking them or intercepting them when they're down by 3 scores and pressing then that should be expected. No offense to Marion because Ford is a great player, but if graham goes 4 wide then they will have 4 better receivers on the field at one time than you seen all game last night. I know Unions front 7 is probably the best Graham has played so far this year but just last week everyone was talking about how Richlands had one of the best defenses in the area when they held Union to 13. Plus Bluefield's starters have only given up around 7 points per game. So it's not like Graham hasn't played any good defenses. Lastly, I know Union has an awesome home field advantage playing Bullit but don't forget that Graham plays a game in front of more than 10,000 people every year. I don't think that will rattle them as much as what it could other teams.

  29. Graham had D1 talent on their team?

  30. I thought Graham's offense last night was the best I've seen it all year. From the play calling and the execution. With that said I realize Grayson isnt Union either and that will definitely change things. Im afraid Graham fans are about to see what D1 talent looks like.

  33. Prayers for this young man. I was at the game leaving early when he got hurt and you could hear a pin drop. This is going to be one heck of a game. My heart says Graham gets the upset but this is Union and the game is at Union. This will come down to who makes the most mistakes and which team will take advantage. Honest opinion I believe the Union crowd will rattle Graham early and they will fumble a couple times. Union will take advantage and go up early and Graham won’t catch up. 35-21 Union. My heart and maroon and gold blood says Graham 42-38

The 2 big special teams plays put Marion out of it early. The bad punt snap put Union up 14-0, and after the big TD run for Marion, the ensuing KO return TD broke their back.

  37. We had a crew here for a long number of years that was worse, but they were so bad it was comical. Their best performance ever was when our play by play guy had a case of the hiccups the entire second half. I've never enjoyed a GW broadcast I was forced to listen to more. I've heard some G-Man fans complain about those guys for a while, and they are definitely right. I lost IQ points tonight. I like tater chips.

  38. Both teams absolutely rolling right now, and both teams capable of being up 21-0 or 28-7 QUICK. If either team falls behind like that, it's probably over. But I'm expecting a tight, 4th quarter game with a big mistake costing someone and allowing other team to get a little separation and hang on late.

Officiating really wasn't that bad. Things got chippy late in the 3rd quarter around the time Mike Mason was taken off On the stretcher and Graham had about 4really dumb (deserved) penalties where they just wouldnt keep their mouth shut and Grayson's coach got one. After that the officials got a little flag happy but it was probably needed to keep both teams in check. Graham hasn't had any of that go on this year so it was disappointing to see.

  43. Appo proved once again that they are on different level than Giles. Granted, Giles shot themselves in the foot too many times. Appos offense hasn't missed a beat since last season but their defense can be ran on. You just can't have penalties or turn the ball over. 47. We're still pretty early in the process (obviously, since he's a sophomore). Digested version thus far is like this: 1. Signed up with online recruiting service (offered free through his travel soccer team membership). Started getting pings from random small schools all across the country. 2. Talked with varsity soccer coach for honest assessment of the boy's future in college. Coach says he's definitely got an opportunity to play Division II/III. Division I is a long shot for anyone, but my son will at least get some looks because of his size and speed (which confirmed one of my previous assumptions about the process). Also said that he would make a point to promote my son to colleges. 3. Had honest conversation with the boy about his level of interest. Gave him hypothetical option to consider.... If he had to choose, would he go to Virginia Tech with the knowledge that there is little to no chance that he could play soccer there? Or would he go to on ODAC school primarily because he would have a chance to play? He said that he'd probably choose Tech -- but he at least wants to explore the options available to him. 4. After playing in the tournament last month, he's received some communication from scouts who referenced our team's specific results and who noted particular plays that my son made (it's obvious that they actually had eyes on him). Three of these are from Division I schools (albeit ones in lower tier conferences). In the mean time, the random pings are becoming more focused and a few ODAC schools in particular are really stepping up the email/mailings. We've also gotten a couple of cold calls from coaches. Right now we are at the point where we are evaluating which ID camp invitations to consider for the summer. The current mix contains the 3 or 4 Division III schools that are basically within our area and a couple of Division II schools in North Carolina. My son is also thinking about signing up for Tech's open soccer camp just to see if it leads anywhere. While playing soccer for any ACC school obviously looks like the longest of the long shots, that's the soccer option that is most attractive and which he wants to at least explore. But on that last note, he's also understandably intrigued by the interest of the Division I schools that have actually reached out to him. My prediction right now is that he will enjoy playing soccer through high school, but will ultimately give up playing to go to Virginia Tech and major in physics. But he's already a certified game official and he's helping to coach some of the youngest players in our club and our local Rec association, so I've told him that he can continue to have a future with the sport in either of those roles if he wants one. (Although, to be somewhat ironic, his coaching and officiating experience also stand out on his recruiting profile and probably enhance his attractiveness on paper.)

Not even close. Stacy Ervin was a much better all around PLAYER. He actually played defense too. Although Ervin did shoot the ball Lots and Lots every game, he wasn't a ball hog.. his teammates just depended on him. McClung wants to put on a show Offensively only and is a big time show off where Stacy Ervin was not a show off and was very down to earth.. As far as being the best overall ATHLETE.. Calvin Talford wins in my book. Mcclung ( Hold Back ) ✔ Stacy Ervin ( Hold Back ) ✔ Luke Ervin ( Hold Back ) ✔ Chad Ervin ( Hold back ) ✔ Zac Ervin ( Hold Back ) ✔ And speaking of Zac.. Zac Ervin is and will be a much better Overall PLAYER than McClung ever thought about being.. once again because he plays defense. Just because Mac has a famous cousin who is a rapper and he can dunk and is famous on Youtube doesn't mean he's a god. Social media is the worst thing ever.. And it could be the downfall of McClung. Although Stacy Ervin did Hold back a year.. ( which was Stupid and his daddy probably told him to just like Mac and Zac ) He was much better than Mac will ever dream of being. Offensively and Defensively Calvin Talford and Mac are Similar ONLY due to the fact they both can jump. McClung is Not to be confused with talford. Talford would have eat Mac's Lunch back in the day... McClung is just way too Conceited. Calvin Talford was and still is down to earth and a great person. He hasn't changed as a person just because he got a lot of attention. Same as Ervin Even though anybody with the last name Ervin in the state of virginia is a hold back for Athletic Reasons only and because their parents thought they were going to play pro basketball.. ( same thing with McClung ) it's all about politics. McClung's dad and Ervin's dad are buddy buddies. But to answer the question.... McClung is absolutely NOT the best player in SW Virginia Since Ervin and Talford. He WISHES he were though, and so does his Loyal Followers.
