  2. I hate Appomattox's AD, Principal, and fans that cry about a train horn. Other than that I have much respect for the team, coach Smith, and the community. My rant for the day.

  3. Lets walk something back a moment. Auburn beat Bama at home. Auburn drilled UGA at home just 3-4 weeks ago right? Georgia then walks over Auburn on a neutral field. What is to say that Bama wouldnt have done the same a week later on a neutral field?

  5. Still getting very random pings from small colleges, but now starting to hear from larger ones as well. Just received an invite to an ID camp from an American Athletic Conference school today. Also received interest from a college in England through the recruiting service (which seems an unlikely outcome, but is the kind of rare thing that you just have to check out). Boy is playing in his first "showcase" event next month -- which includes a few coaches who have already been in touch with him. Will be interesting to see what (if any) kind of effort they make to actually contact him as part of that venue. And we aren't tipping them off about his participation -- we want to see if they find him. I'm still thinking that most of the attention he is receiving is simply because he matches a recruiting profile (big, quick, and has good grades). My theory is that if he doesn't get some personal attention from the coaches who have contacted him in connection with the event itself, then that's an early litmus test of how realistic his chances are of playing at the next level. We will also probably get to test the real value of travel ball as it relates to the college recruiting process. Things are a bit up in the air with the club and team for which he has been playing the last four years. He was already planning to try out for another club's elite level team just to see where that might lead. We think his chances of being invited to join are a long shot -- it's an extremely exclusive team that participates in an extremely high level league -- and there would obviously be some serious travel and expenses associated with it, so from a practical sense we're completely fine with the notion that it won't happen. If that doesn't pan out, his best option is probably to "play up" for the older team at his existing club next fall. But there is also a very strong possibility that he could play for a team that competes almost exclusively in tournaments. In our area, most of the better teams are involved in league play (Blue Ridge Soccer League or Skyline Club Soccer League). So one thought is that playing for a "vagabond" club might actually put him at something of a disadvantage in terms of the travel ball part of the recruiting equation. While it's exciting for him and kind of fun for us, I'm approaching this realistically And I'm still sticking with my prediction that he hangs up his competitive cleats and winds up at Tech. I may be off about his major. Some days he likes chemistry better than physics.

  6. But you did lose to Appomattox and in 30 years it will still be a loss to Appomattox. Good Call, Bad Call or No Call, Union still lost.

^^^THIS^^^ Seems like a knee-jerk reaction by a university and fan base stuck in the past.

  8. I still maintain that Fulmer doesn’t have the intelligence, wherewithal, and personality to run a $110M athletic department. Very different matters to run a football team and run an entire athletics department.

  9. Since it was your first time hearing it this year, did you think that it was disrespectful how it was blown? Or will you admit that it was blown right, the same way we’ve been blowing it since 2014. One of the goals of Saturday was to make Appo look bad for how they were complaining that it was blown “inappropriately”. I found it comical that Appo coaches went to the refs before the game even started to complain about it.

  10. He’s butthurt because Graham made it farther than his team did. No, really, that’s the entire purpose of his posting over the last month. He’s thrown shade at Graham all playoffs long, and now that all SWVA 2A teams are eliminated, he’s walking it back.

Former coaches taking the reigns as athletics director is a mixed bag. Tom Osborne's platform for the position at Nebraska was to hand pick his successors, both in the coaching ranks as well as administrative in an effort to "stabilize" the athletic department. Time has proven, his hand picked choices for coaches and administrators were less than quality selections. Nebraska is currently bringing in head football coach number 6 since Osborne sold the university on his "program stabilizing" plan. Bob Devaney and Bill Byrne were the only two AD's at Nebraska from 1967 to 2002. They have had 5 since. Not really a "stabilizing" plan. Pat Hayden was an abject failure at USC as AD. Lynn Swann will not fair any better in my opinion. Frank Broyles and Barry Alvarez could easily be considered a hall-of-fame caliber coaches and administrators.

  15. I watched film on how we blew it in 2012 and 2013 and I could see how people might get upset. I wouldn't ever go as far as to say that it cost a team to lose a game, but then again im not on the field playing so idk what it sounds like out there. But no one has had a problem with it in the last few years.

  16. The play happened right in front of me. The blocker had his right hand grabbing the neckline of 82's shoulder pads, and his left was on the shoulder full of jersey. From the home side, the hold was more than obvious.

  17. They've been running that shift on punts for years. NEVER been called against us. Not even in KY and that says a LOT. If the kids aren't set they can move laterally all they want. Why aren't all these muddle huddles called on XPs? That's literally everyone but the center shifting. I won't argue about the effect this play had on the final score because we'll never know for sure, BUT I will question why that same shift that has been done at least 20 times over 7 years in 3 different states in front of countless officials gets called at a crucial moment in a semi-final game....that is what is leaving Union folks scratching their heads.

  18. UCF has no business in the playoff. Period. They are 12-0 based on the fact they played 2 legitimate teams. Virginia Tech would be 12-0 against that schedule.

  19. IF A COACH HAS QUESTIONED A CALL HE IS ALLOWED TO SPEAK WITH THE HEAD REF(SANTA CLAUS)TO FIND OUT WHY A CALL WAS MADE. THATS THE RULE, NO TIMEOUT NEEDED.tHE SHIFT HAS BEEN LEGAL ALL YEAR, and now its not????the refs were from the Roanoke valley so maybe that was the way they call games there,to understand the VHSL way of hiring different organizations for its games officials one would have to have a degree in "DUMB ASS".The game is over, things will not change even if it was the most blatant foul ever, so lets move on , a block here a tackle there ,a catch or a good punt, we can what if all day but its over ....enjoy the memories of that day.All the kids played hard, I hope APPO DESTROYS R E LEE, that way we can say we didnt loose to APPO. , we just ran out of time

  20. Horn was fine. In fact as I sat here in Appomattox the other day I heard the train whistle and it put a smile on my face. Done talking about the mythical holding call. It was in mid field but the play was coming out way so the visitors sidelines had a great view on 82's inside shoulder and how 2 was pushing that shoulder area. He had enough leverage to not allow 82 to get turned. Don't trust my word I understand that, but I had guys from Ridge View, Gate City and another SWVA school sitting right beside me .... IE .....they had the same view I did and NONE of them were complaining about a holding call! I will also say that these same guys erupted when 82 broke his long TD run. They were pulling for Union but non of them said a word about a "holding call". They did question how a coach can walk clear to mid field to argue a illegal procedure call and stop the game for 60-120 seconds and THEN call a timeout. Kinda funny that they shanked the punt right after that (although I feel for the kid).

  21. No one can make a claim that it would have changed the overall outcome of the game, but you my friend have to admit that if that call had been made the score would not have been the same going in at half time. If you look at the second half, without that score Union would have won, enough said, no one is crying over spilled milk. Everyone in SWVA knows when a team from our area plays any team from the Roanoke Valley and eastward, things like no calls, bad calls, and unusual calls always happen and we have come to accept this as the normal in that situation, and believe it or not we have come to understand that we live with it. Appo is a great team, no doubt, and we hope thay win state, but it is what it is and if you watch the film called out on this board you will see that the Appo player has Mitchel's arm wrapped up with a hand full of jersey right in front of two ref's, so you make the call.

    Then who is 4??

  23. Beat ranked MSU on road, beat FSU, and beat same LSU team that AU couldn't. Losses have to mean something. A team with three losses shouldn't get more credit than a team with one. Auburn went to SECCG by virtue of a tiebreaker. Both had one SEC loss.

  24. Bama beat four teams ranked at the time, and had road wins at MSU and TAMU. Auburn lost three games. Alabama lost one, to a top 5 team. Auburn lost to the top team, a top 5 team and a top 25 team. Having one loss >>>>>three. If head to head was the decider, why isn't Syracuse in ahead of Clemson? Iowa State instead of Oklahoma? Be salty all you want but Alabama deserved to be there. They were 11-1, with one loss on the road by 12. Ohio State lost twice, once at home and once on the road by 40. Auburn lost three times. Wisconsin beat fewer good teams than Bama. UCF beat one ranked team and only played two quality teams all year. USC had two losses, one by 30. Committee got it right.

  25. I wouldn’t be shocked if they retired 82

  26. I don't really have an argument in this, but it does appear that you have created a circular reference in that Alabama > Alabama, therefore a tear in the space time continuum could occur and cause anyone that attends the Alabama/Clemson game to disappear into a black hole. Just saying. Am I the only one to catch that?
    1 point
  27. Alabama couldn’t help that the SEC West + Tennessee + FSU were way down...and even then, Alabama beat MSU and LSU (to whom Auburn lost), which both spent time in the Top 25. People seem to forget this...
