I'm not sure you understand how D1 recruiting works in 2017. No matter if Mitchell dominates or doesn't, there is no chance that either team has another player that will earn a major offer tomorrow night

As a Marion fan, I'm just glad that a Hurricane is finally going to give Graham trouble.

You keep mentioning that but why would college recruiters be lining up to come to this game? There's one D1 talent playing and D1 scouts already know his ability. But maybe you mean UVA-Wise or E&H might send someone over?

Also the size hasn't been there on the lines like the teams that in the past that would intimidate you by looking like college linemen. Like all small schools (and all the schools in this region are small in comparison to upstate) the Devils are in a down cycle. There's way too much pride and tradition for it to stay bad folks.

I think if we GC fans take off our blue tinted glasses, step back, and look at our football program...........our main issue becomes fairly clear. We have not put very talented teams on the field the last few years. Yes..........we have had some talented players. No doubt about that. I am talking about total team talent. That has resulted with too many kids having to play both ways, and the offense and defense wearing down as the game progresses. With a lack of total team talent, the importance of remaining injury free has been magnified. That talent may be walking the halls at GC. If so, we need to get it on the team.

College level as in D2/D3? Yes. Division 1 level? No.

I seriously doubt either team has any other players that would be worth coaches from big time P5 schools coming to visit when this weekend is the opener for most teams.

OK, T-town fans...dress warm for tonight's game. I left Tazewell @ 2PM and it was 72* on my car, I get home in Bluefield and it is 58* on my back porch with wind and mist. This is late October weather not Sept. 1st weather...

You are absolutely correct. Gate City fans are spoiled. In all sports. I am one of them. The expectations are very high each season. Regarding football, Coach Fry set the bar very high. You either stay up there, or go down. The athletes are there, it's just that many of the premier ones choose to play other sports and not football. Kids play the sports that are most appealing to them. Instead of playing 2 or 3 sports, many kids are just playing 1 or 2, with football being the sport not played. I am not declaring that football is no longer king at Gate City, but it's not as lopsided as it used to be. It does run in cycles though, and most likely it will cycle back up in the future.

Possible wind/rain/muddy field..... great football weather.

UVA-Wise opens the season with three straight Thursday night games.

The Cats run their base O out of the 4 wide, singleback spread. They will also go to a 3 wide, 2RB formation. They also have a couple of power running formations, but they haven't run those much yet. Good luck tonight!

I think this game is another classic. I think the difference could be the kicking game, and I'll take "Flee" Forrest to kick the game winning 49 yard FG. 24-21 Blues.

Does va high use more of a air attack offense or do they like to keep it on the ground i havent seen them play and if they like to throw it then the weather could be a factor

I can remember those first few matchups when people picked Richlands to "win big" and those were both games that came down to the end. I don't think it matters who is the better team on paper. This game has some sort of mystique around it and it's a true rivalry game. I don't think you can put too much stock in a singular game. From what I've heard, Richlands held quite a bit back vs. GC.

I'm saying it now, watch out for Wise Central. If the Jesse kid along with Mullins can stay healthy, they'll be able to compete with anyone. Central 34 Grundy 13
