    We over at Coalfield Sports did a district poll. Here is what we found: http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/06/preseason-poll-mountain-7/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/08/preseason-poll-black-diamond-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/11/preseason-poll-river-ridge-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/13/preseason-poll-cumberland-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/15/preseason-poll-mountain-empire-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/17/preseason-poll-southwest-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/20/preseason-poll-hogoheegee-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/20/preseason-poll-pioneer-district/ http://coalfieldsports.com/2018/08/20/preseason-poll-three-rivers-district/

    Richlands vs GC

In my high school days, (decades ago), GC was the top team of the area and beat the stuffings out of RHS every year, but no matter the score, as fans we always supported our team. To us a victory was being able to score on GC and when we did, the fans in the stands went crazy. You would think we had won the super bowl, but it was all about supporting our team no matter what the outcome of the game. We all like to be winners, and we all hate to loose, but we should all support our teams, no matter the outcome. You GC fans have to realize that it was never easy for all the area teams to receive a beat down from you guys year in and year out, but we endured the loosing to support our team for the players on the field. If you are truly a GC fan, you need to forget the past and support the players no matter what. We all like to live in a perfect world where our team wins every game by a great margin, but reality moves into our perfect world and we stop dreaming and start supporting. RIchland 28 Gate City 7

  4. Welcome to the message board. LB, MV and Blacksburg aren’t in our coverage area. Just as a heads up in the future, polls with teams not in the area aren’t counted for the official poll. The teams we cover are on the map up top.

  6. An AD job is a thankless job with little pay (at least in Scott County IMO for the time put into it). They have to be at almost every sporting event in some capacity and get paid around $1600 for that title and time spent away from home. While I may not agree with everything Roberts does, there is no doubt he loves and supports GC in every sport. I watched him at the Eastman Invitational cheering hard for the girls in a tight game with Volunteer. Anyone who has been around GC football should know he cares about it.

    Graham/Beaver

Well it is the week of the big game. Everyone knows how loaded Bluefield is and everyone knows Graham has the athletes, but the line play on both sides is subpar at best. Can Graham pull the upset? Or will Bluefield get win number one, in what should be another special season for the Beavers. My heart says Graham wins a close one 20-17 but my head says Bluefield 42-21.

    Bearcats vs Bulldogs

Can confirm it’s horrible. Can also conform as a former marching band member, your press box being centered to the 42 1/2 yard line instead of the 50 is also miserable.

  12. I have to agree. I don't particularly care for the visitor's bleachers as Tazewell, but they're not as uncomfortable as sitting on the visitors side at the Stone Castle. With that said, @swva_havok_fan, I recommend that you don't take our word for it. I'll save you a seat at the 50 yd. line, top row 😁

  13. I am about 90% sure I will be making the trip over for this game... so the real question is... Who's saving me a seat? Lol

    Ji Burton at Union

Jimbo cries that Union's players play dirty and sends in goons to try and do damage in the second half. Doesn't matter. Union 45, Burton absolutely nothing.

  21. Glad to hear that Taz. is having some success. Nothing like a rival getting better and making games a little more interesting. Hope they do well this year, and in my opinion, they will be a team to watch out for next year.

  23. To piggyback on Jason's quote. I heard yesterday on CBS Sports Radio that peak participation in football was 2008, and that the numbers on a steady decline and were down another 5% last year. Kids just aren't playing football anymore, and will not in the future. More are playing baseball, soccer, lacrosse or choosing not to participate in any sport at all. Coaching at GC has always been a touchy subject, but when GC had mediocre coaching they had superior athletes and when they had mediocre athletes they had excellent coaching. Now they have neither!

    Donald Trump

Didn’t ruin America but he didn’t do anything for manufacturing(like other presidents before him). Benghazi and the mysterious video.. The number of Americans on welfare alltime high. A record 20% on food stamps in 2013 & 2014. Taxpayers lost 25 billion dollars on Obama’s bailout of General Motors and Chrysler. Chrysler isn’t even an American company any more. It’s now owned by an Italian company, Fiat. Obama’s campaign contributors at Solyndra were handed 535 million dollars of taxpayer money that the Obama Administration knew they would never be able to pay back before they gave it to them. The IRS targeted Obama’s political enemies including Christian groups, pro-Israel groups, and most prominently, Tea Party groups. The Obama Administration had refused to cooperate with the investigation or hold anyone accountable for the illegal behavior. Numerous donors to Mitt Romney were audited by the IRS after giving him large contributions. Obama took 700 billion dollars out of Medicare to put into Obamacare. Instead of calming people down, Obama helped to turn Americans against each other racially be inserting himself into the Trayvon Martin case. Obama created so much racial animosity by attacking the police when they had done nothing wrong in the Henry Louis Gates case that he had to have a ridiculous “beer summit” to try to undo the damage. The Department of Justice failed to pursue a voter intimidation case against members of the New Black Panthers because they were black and liberal. Former DOJ official J Christian Adams quit over the case and “accused his former employer of instructing attorneys in the civil rights division to ignore cases that involve black defendants and white victims.” Despite the fact that Barack Obama claimed to believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman when he was running for President in 2008, his Department of Justice asked states attorney general to refuse to defend their states’ bans on gay marriage in court. He released 5 Taliban terrorists In exchange for deserter Bowe Bergdahl. I could go on but won’t. I will say that the only politician to not take an IPO would probably be Rand Paul Senator Kentucky

    2019 Union Graham

No shit Sherlock? I underestimated your wit. @JDHoss As I told Union_fan, who has always posted well thought out posts until today, some people will believe what they want, no matter what. Since we've traveled back in time to 3rd grade, and started name-calling, let me have a go of it...... Listen here, Numbnuts😡(that's my mean face), the next time you see me as part of a debate, please do a little better preparation for yourself, so you don't look like the bumbling fool(that's two names, now we're even) you've made yourself out to be. For instance...... If I decide to bring up a topic discussing the taste of different kinds of oranges, don't bring in your ridiculous argument about apples(judging by your previous content, that should have smoke coming out of your ears for a while). Have a good one! 😁

  29. Ok. I see a little more, now. I really am not trying to argue, either. My point was, that our bench from last year, is basically the bench this year. Not many teams outside of us and you guys can truthfully make that claim. It will still be tough for the young Bulldogs, but definitely not unwinnable. I know coach Crist and his staff well. They refuse to let this group sleep on anyone. They, (and some of our fanbase) know the potential that your boys have. We know how bright their future looks. None of us know what the outcome will be. What I believe I do know is, is that the stadium will be rocking Thursday night, and there will be a bunch of good athletes, giving their all to win the game. Good luck to the Bulldogs Thursday night, and for the rest of the season!

  32. I saw her working at Belk in Wise when I still lived in the area. She was as nice and polite as she was when her boys played in high school. In reference to an earlier comment somebody made, I did hear that kids at Witten’s camp did enjoy it more than Jones’ but Witten may have just had a better camp. What’s that person’s point. I did find his tweet about BSG arrogant but he apologized for it. He is a pretty good guy from the interactions I have had with him. I don’t recall him saying he came from nothing. I think it is ridiculous that people are saying these crazy things about him.

Well...we had a SWVA vs NETN all-star game...and I could be wrong, but I don’t remember SWVA winning much. That should tell ya all you need to know. Best vs best, it was decidedly one way.

  35. I agree 100%. In my personal opinion that was a game featuring two of the top teams in the area and it was tight when the 1's were in there. Probably more beneficial than most benefit games as far as facing good competition.
    1 point
  36. This games was very beneficial for both teams. Its rare two of top teams in the area get to test each other out before things really get started. The score doesn't reflect how tight the game really was.

  37. I went to the Ridgeview/Chilhowie game. I think it was tied when the starters came out. 17 all I think? Possibly Chilhowie up by 3? I don't recall exactly? Chilhowie will prob go 9-1 this season. Ridgeview should be fine as the season goes along but they could use more of a passing game other than screen passes. Ridgeview was in control at the start but Chilhowie became more efficient as the game went on. I personally think it was a good game considering both teams should be good this year and this was a benefit game. I'm sure each will improve as the season progresses. I just hope the injury to Adkins is minor and that the #25 from Chilhowie is ok.

  38. 2nd strings for both teams starting with 3 or 4 minutes left in the 3rd. Chilhowie was up 20-17. Chilhowie started off a little sluggish but after a couple of series they started picking it up. Great game from both teams. I know there is a lot of attention on Adkins but Ridgeview's #22 is a heck of a running back.

  39. It's a shame that the "powers" have let this happen to this program. It's hard to believe we were in the playoffs 2 years ago. It feels more like 15.

  40. You question my picks, but you pick a team 3rd over a basically all senior team at number 4, who won 42-0 last year over them. Sometimes you need to take off your Rebel colored glasses. Hurley's pass defense looks like swiss cheese. If I were an opponent, I would throw the ball on every down.
