If they make the playoffs and don't deserve to be there than they'll be one and done. If they deserve to be there then they'll advance.

1984 PV...8-2, only 2 losses coming in weeks 2 and 3. Couldn't win the district with 2 district losses, so they didn't get in. But, IMO they didn't deserve to get in over the programs that beat them (and only one of those could go). Bottom line, if you aren't the top team in your division in your district, you don't have a gripe if you miss the playoffs.

I am not sure if some of you guys realize how little control the AD has at GC. The AD, at least at GC, has almost no control over the day to day activities of each sport All of that is on the individual coaches He is an easy target because I do not believe many people would describe him as warm and fuzzy. He can also be not very politically correct. If you are going to blame him for the woes of the football team, then you need to praise him for the success of the other programs. Akers was hired by a committee. Having some knowledge of the process, I believe the committee made the best choice they could have made. (No. I was not involved,) However, it is now painfully obvious that Akers cannot remain the HC at GC. (Without a major attitude change, he will not be successful as a HC at any school). We GC fans have high expectations. That is also pretty obvious. ? Would we give a coach 5 years to rebuild our program? Of course we would...if we see the coach making progress. Does not necessarily have to be progress in the win column. We want to see more kids coming out for the team, some progress each week, and a general excitement about the program. Unfortunately we are seeing the opposite. Akers is finished at GC. Just a matter of when.

I'll never forget the BHC predicting us to win 35-0 in 2003 and we all remember how that played out. Anything can happen in the Backyard Brawl.

I'd love to see it, but I think Richlands is awfully deep in Graham's head.

Should Richlands win? Yes... Will they win? Probably so! But they better no just show up to Dog House and take these young pups lightly....

I don’t see him coming back to VA. If he completes 5 years in TN, he is vested in their retirement system as well as VA’s. He can’t be more than a couple years away from that.

The whole problem with the playoff system in VA now is over-inclusion, plain and simple. The pre-2010 system was equally as poor, wherein multitudes of 8+ win teams got shafted because some team like Rye Cove would win its awful district with a 5-5 record. Adding an extra week in 2010 literally doubled the number of teams that made the postseason in most districts, and that's far too many. I like the four-region system now, but just half the number of playoff teams. Neither Lee County nor Grayson County (currently 7th and 8th in 2D) should sniff a playoff berth. A Top 4 of Union, Graham, Marion, and Ridgeview/VHS seems an accurate fit for rewarding play and performance thus far.

I don't have a problem using power points but I hate the fact 2-8 and 1-9 teams make the playoffs....too many teams make it IMO....cut each region to 4 or 6 I say

I remember several 8-2 teams missing the playoffs, I believe Clintwood was the last from our area. There have been a few 9-1 teams and if memory serves me I believe one of the main reasons for the current playoff format was to try to eliminate that. In 1A and 2A in Tennessee there have been numerous no win teams and teams with 1 or 2 wins every year making the playoffs just to fill the brackets (which in itself is terrible). I am old school and if you don't win at least five games you shouldn't be in the playoffs!

I don't know anything about the West Virginia side except Bluefield, but the fact that UVAO and Bluefield Researcher have James Monroe in the top 10 is all I need to know about putting them in the top 10 as well. I'm pretty sure that we learned in school in geography class that West Virginia is abbreviated WV if so that means it would read SWV. So Bluefield should not be considered. Just saying now bring down your hammer.

The fans deserve better? Not sure I can agree with that. As they do pay to get in but outside of that everywhere they are usually to criticial or too overconfident. I am not trying to ruffle your feathers but I think if kids played the game and no one attended there would be far less problems in sports. Now I know the money pays the bills and fans can fire up the team but for every great fan there are two that are bad. I am sure the fans on this site want what is best for the program but all of this talk has only hurt your program. The kids and eveyone is reading all about the program and that doesn't help. Wish you guys the best in what ever direction the school chooses to take. This area needs strong football tradiotn and Gate City is one of the finest.

You may be right. I don’t know whether Richlands will be 6-4, 5-5, or 4-6. I do know that some 5-5 teams can be extremely dangerous come playoff time. Refer to the 1989 Appalachia D1 State Championship Team. They went 5-5. Refer to Blacksburg last year. I am also thinking that Jonesville’s last season in 1988–right before they consolidated to form Lee High—that they went 5-5 in regular season and won the 1988 D1 State Championship. I believe they played that particular game at Bullitt Park. I am not saying that Richlands wins it all this year. But teams with those records are a little scary.

If not, there's always next month. Is it an election year in Scott County? That would give a lot more weight to phone calls and emails, seeing as how each of these elections are decided by approximately 100 votes (this thread had over 1500 views). I would imagine someone would want to present this petition I've heard so much about...

GC proved Friday night that they can throw the ball when they let Sallee stay in the pocket and attempt shorter passes instead of a streak every play when he is rolling out. (Pats self on back because I preached it for 7 weeks now). DeAndre Mack probably isn't a runningback, but he has potential to being a threat offensively for GC the next 2 seasons. Maybe he is best suited in the slot. That is the only positives that really came out of last week. It's still very concerning we cannot run the football, cannot get stops on defense, and our play caller ditches what has worked for 70 yards then tries to go back with his non-existent offense. Webb will be a big loss for GC as he plays both sides of the ball. He will miss the rest of the season and needs surgery to repair his knee. Prayers for him, it's never easy to see a young man's career ended due to an injury. So if GC can come out, throw the ball around and stay away from the under center stuff unless in short yardage they can perform better than they have. It will not be a big enough change to put the Devils in the win column. All I can hope for the last 4 weeks is for the boys in blue is to hang in there, fight every down, play for pride. Maybe one day if these boys are faced with adversity, they can fight threw it, and keep chuggin along even when things are not going their way. Maybe they pull out this memory and say "I made it then, I can make it now". I talked to a few players Friday, I simply told them "hang in there" with a pat on the back. These players are playing their hearts out despite the crappy situation they are in. Some of them told me they are fighting as hard as they can and won't quit, even if they are winless. As a fan, giving 100% for the name on the front of your jersey and for you brothers is all I can ask for right now. Will the upset happen on Friday? Highly doubtful, but I just hope we can get these kids threw the season without anymore serious injuries and start fixing things that need to be fixed in about month for the sake of our program. I know I've rubbed a few people wrong on here this season. I just hate to lose and hate seeing these boy's hard work since the day after the Glenvar loss go to wayside. These boys (and myself) had high hopes about this season. Some things started unraveling after the South loss and it's been a downhill spiral since. My opinion is that the program, players, and lastly the fans deserve better than what we have right now. We need to fix things that need to be fixed in the off season and quickly. Maybe the guy I thought wasn't the guy might actually be the guy after seeing him cheer on the players during the games, make his rounds and encourage his former players after games on Friday's, and he is actually helping the kids with injuries during his planning period with treatment. Maybe he deserves a shot at the helm. Safe travels down I-81 to Legion Field on Friday 'Cane fans.

Well not upset about that by no means, but give the top 8 in 2A the same schedule and they have 2 or 3 loses also just my opinion.

Of the SWVA teams its gonna come down to Graham or Union as to who will go the farthest imo. If Appo wasn't in Region C they id say Giles would have a good shot to make it to the Semis. But with Appo, Glenvar, Dan River, and Gretna that will be no easy task. I'd love for Giles to be in D haha

I'd go with 6-4, but if you were breaking it down on pure statistics, 5-5 would be likeliest.

Speed hurts Richlands....if the coach at tazewell plays it right, sweep left and sweep right then bomb to Mullins. Richlands has no identity this year, still searching for who they are. I think Richlands still wins but not like the past.

I'm sure the staff from Lee made the trip to Knoxville for the Georgia game. They will have an orange game plan for this week for sure. Butch can't be at Gate City and Lee at the same time. I hear Jeremy Pendergraft Jones has him locked in at Lee this Friday

They've got a shot at being a 2nd weekend team if they get a favorable matchup in their draw. For example, a 4/5 game against Ridgeview would be a fairly good scenario for them.

Y'all are just now figuring out what a cancer he is. As a long time fan of the hogo I know parent's and coachs at RR. He demoralized the kids and coaches everyday. Mocked previous coaches and the schools tradition. Even coaches still on the staff. Alot didn't help after just meeting him in initial meeting. Come to find out he applied for job because he had been offensive coordinator at previous "big " school. But actually only was OC for half of 1st quarter before HC took play calling away. He's a cancer and his repercussions are still being felt at RR.

If all that is true, dude should be fired ASAP
