Tom Turner's teams would go on those 80 yard, two-day drives that would wear down and demoralize a defense. Then, those same players would turn around and play defense and demoralize your offense.

Stunned at the outcome today. I thought it would be a one score game that could go either way. Union just dominated both sides of the LOS, and as has been pointed out, tackled well in space. I really thought that barring turnovers, the game was over in the 2nd quarter after Union made it 14-0 on Mitchell's 5 yard run, and there were several Graham defenders with their hands on their hips and shaking their heads. Graham has some serious play makers, but its tough to get them the football when you're getting manhandled up front.

I don't have to. I already know that Richlands lost to Marion 22-18 and Richlands lost to Graham 20-13. Crazy how i can remember that, especially since Richlands has been playing basketball for 2 weeks.

Union loses a lot of seniors and talent next season, unless it's an early round game I don't know if Bears will make a run like this next year. It's possible, there's def talent coming up but it's hard to be this good for three straight years, much less four. Union has lost three games in three years. That's an incredible stat. 13-0 this year, 11-2 in 2016 and 13-1 in 2015. Have to come back down to Earth sometime lol. It'd sure be nice to Cap of this run w a state title tho, these kids work incredibly hard and have stayed out of trouble, got grades, etc... I wanna see them rewarded.

I like the fact these two teams don't play in regular season. Makes the playoff games that much bigger and more intriguing.

WTF, Graham is not or ever was overrated this season. That's disrespectful to Union & Graham to say that. Union beat the speediest offensive team in SWVA today, and impressively too. Yes, Union flat-out outplayed Graham on both sides of the ball, but that's just a testament to how skilled the players are & how well coached they are to shut down a fast Graham team. If Union plays the same way next week against Appomattox, they'll win the same way they did against Graham. No team that makes it this far is overrated.

It’s not an extremely likely scenario, but I hope Union absolutely runs Appo out of the stadium. Many of there fans are arrogant and didn’t give a flip about football three years ago. It’s time to knock em off the bandwagon. Show them what true southwest va football fans are and give em hell bears.

My oldest son (a high school sophomore) is starting to get some attention from college soccer recruiters. I think it's mainly because he looks good on paper -- he's 6'3", he's relatively fast, and he makes really good grades (takes after his mother, thank God). But communications have picked up quite a bit since his travel team played in a tournament last month that was billed as being a magnet for scouts. The Division II and III levels are a definite option, but he's also attracted attention from some lower tier Division I schools. Sorry to brag about my kid, but I'm posting this with the thought that I can share some of what we experience in this process (which is new to me) and I'd also be interested in the opinions and guidance of folks who have been through it themselves.

Dude has wheels! That's the only game I can recall #17 getting run down. Usually, he's gone once he gets to the 2nd level.

Graham is the best team Union played. Richlands is the team that played Union best.

17 carries, 106 yards. Most of that in the 1st half. He plays both ways and Dixon needed him more on D in the second half.

That is a good point. After seeing Appo live in the first round last year, even though I was pulling for the local teams, I knew that nobody had a shot. This year is different. If you check the post history of this season, it's safe to say that I was the first non Union fan on the board to sing the praises of their front 7 on defense, dating back to the Benefit Game in August. They have been dominant in every game this year. A lot of non Union fans think Mitchell is the biggest reason for Union's success, and that's just simply not the case this year. Of course he's a big part of it, but when you have a D as dominant as Union's has been, all that means is Mitchell and the rest of the O gets more opportunities. If Union's D was just average or even just above average, nobody would be talking about Union right now. Union's offense is not designed to be in games that are a shootout. With this game being in BSG, I'm confident that Union has a good shot at winning.

He did but didn't have many carries. Not sure if he was battling some sort of injury or if they were just saving him but he had multiple good runs while in the game

Appomattox is a very good matchup for Union from what I’ve seen on/from each. I think Union has what it takes to pull some magic at Bullitt. Union - 28 Appomattox - 21

Agreed but still had chances and continuously kept shooting self in foot. Penalties (the false start on third and three inside the 20, becomes third and long, don't get it, botch FG attempt. Harris going offsides on punt although center should've been called for snap infraction, etc.. but I really do believe Johnson put the ball on the ground before his knee touched when he got hurt. It wasn't even reviewed and I was livid.) and mental mistakes killed us. If Bama executes and plays a good game, they win.

I agree with you to an extent. First off, Union was ready for Cooke and Graham's coaches knew that. Cooke isn't the only weapon they have, they have several other skilled players they needed to get evolved to win, but Union's D shut them all down. It's like Union, you always hear about Mitchell, but they have several other players that are stepping up & carrying the load that don't get much attention. Graham knew they couldn't win with just Cooke, so they tried other options and it didn't work. Union was the better team today & Graham's strategy didn't work. I don't fault Graham, and I praise Union. Both are great teams. Union was better today, and I hope they bring back the state title to Big Stone Gap/Appalachia!

over thrown cause 10 didn't have time to throw like he did on everyone else and yes Richlands is the 4-7 team you'll ever see. I promise you that. I'm calling it now, Richlands will be a 10-0 team at the end of next season. I'm union first but Richlands will be back full force next season, 2017 belongs to the bears.
