  4. APPOMATTOX has seen more than it fair share of heartbreak in the last few years loosing its young people to accidents and death at every turn, last year in the early morning hours on game day they lost a beloved teammate on the baseball team to a car accident but they still played on and beat UNION .within just a few hours the UNION family lost the mother of one of our cheerleaders JANINIA JEFFERSON (JONES)to a murder by ERIC MONROE JONES(WHO IS STILL ON THE RUN).APPOMATTOX WAS CONTACTED AND ASKED TO PRAY FOR THE FAMILY, THEY DID, AND ALSO LOWERED THE FLAG TO HALF MASS AT THEIR NEXT HOME GAME.This shows the true heart of the real football families from APPOMATTOX and it speaks of real class of the fine people that the football team represent. They also carry the PO1 slogan on their backs into every game and have their prayer circle before each home game, so regaurdless of the score they are winners, they have inspired me and even though I am pulling for the BEARS , I already know these young men on both sides will make us proud

  5. I don't think too many on the board have stated that Appo is an easy out, and I can tell you that all Richlands fans respect the heck out of Appo and their program, but I for one think that the ""BEARS"" have a good formula for beating Appo. Yes, we are all pulling for Union, or SWVA remaining team, but we're not saying its going to be a cake walk. We know it will be a big task to take Appo down, but we also know how determined Union is and feel that this is their year, that's why we're still posting on this board even after our team is out, to support our end of the State. GO BEARS!!!!!

  6. Hey Razor, I wont be able to make the game for health reasons so I hope you and the other Blues supporters that are going down for the game will please make a little extra noise for me !! Go get em Bears and play for a ring in Salem ! All of SWVA will be pulling hard for you guys ! I got mad respect for what Appo has accomplished over the last few years ! They have had some great athletes and they have been well coached and good fan support, but it's time to bring the championship back to far Southwest Virginia ! GO BEARS !

SAT's are generally planned well in advance of a school year so, this isn't something that couldn't have been planned for. But my issue isn't so much with the timing as it is with some folks response to the timing. People are upset that some players are choosing to take the SAT's on the same day rather than "focusing on the biggest game of the season". The quoted text is taken directly from social media! That's the lack of perspective that infuriates me. I also don't understand why concessions can't be made under the circumstances to allow a Friday game given the proximity of these two schools.

  11. If Appomattox struggles against the run...they could be in trouble..i know appo should be favored just because there back to back state champions but i really do think union will win this game...appo will score sum points but i look for the bears to use up 75 percent of the clock...go bears...this blue tornado fan is pulling for ya..

People that typically make comments like the quote you have above are small minded and have only their high school days/careers to look on as true accomplishments in their life. That's why anything outside of that seems unimportant. We all love HS football, but it is such a small fraction of these kid's lives. Good luck to both teams. Hope for an exciting, injury free game.

Galax is getting some push-back for scheduling this game around SAT's. Some people have such a lack of perspective, it's both confusing and infuriating. Not one kid in this game is likely to ever make a dime from playing the game of football. Every single kid in this game can benefit from a quality education.

  16. Imagine that. They added actual seating unlike Appo adding “seating” for Richlands two years ago. It was two sets of bleachers that held 30 people each. Can’t wait for this game. Can’t express how much I want Union to beat the brakes off Appo. It may not happen, but I hope to God it does.

  17. As far as all swva programs showing up in support of the Bears im bringing my big mouth and I'm moderately famous across swva lol Union is vulnerable to deep outside passed (streak, fade) and it sounds like Appo may be able to exploit that. Appo isint strong a against the run and Union WILL exploit that. Unions game plan has got to be the same as the past 2 weeks (which ive seen in person) control the game by controlling tempo. Grind it out on Offense and limit big plays on Defense. GO Bears!!!

  18. No need to lie... I'm just glad you took the 30 seconds to register this year instead of pulling another bush league move like you did last year when Union played Appomattox. Remember.. you came to this message board, copied probably at least 5 posts, then went to VAPreps and pasted them all in separate quotes and then wrote a smartass reply to each one. When I called you out on it you said you didn't have time to register over here... but you had the time to copy and paste and switch between two the sites. I thought that was a pretty "look at me" dramatic thing to do. Remember when that happened? I remember when that happened. so let's not act like you haven't been around here before. But congratulations on finally mastering that tricky registration process and welcome to SWVASports.com where it's SWVA vs. everybody.

  19. If you're planning on watching 1A and 2A there will be a long break in between if Galax and Riverheads both make it to State. In 2015 it was the fastest game I've ever been to since neither team passed the ball but maybe 4 times. Was over in an hour and a half...

  22. By now everyoe probably thinks I'm a crazy old fart for going back to this time and time again, but GROUND & POUND, BALL CONTROL, CLOCK CONTROL, 4 DOWNS & A CLOUD OF DUST, MOVE THE CHAINS, MOVE THE CHAINS. The way to stop Graves & Appo is to keep the ball out of their hands, GROUND & POUND, EAT CLOCK, SCORE, OVER, & OVER, & OVER AGAIN>

  23. Simple question. Have you even seen the bears offense? We run more than just James. Heck Owens has more post season yards than Mitchell. Zirkle gets plenty of touches up the middle too. the more you type on here the more im certain you have only watched the Bears play once and that was against what ever team you pull for. Im assuming the walmart warriors lol

  24. No one appreciates my unbiased opinion. You can rest assured that Appo. Is not coming to far southwest Va. to lose. I hope someone will express to the bears players that they are going to be in a ‘dog fight’ start to finish. Appo. Has lost one game to a AAA Heritage team that is still in State AAA playoffs. You can make all the noise you want I will be helping, and have our late entrance on the field my guess Appo. Will be in locker room won’t be moved by the hype! I want to see Appo. Knocked off the TOP! The bear offense isn’t hard to figure out. Run James wide to the right, and then run him wide to the left!! Some on here sound like Appo. is already beat no need in even coming to the Park. This game isn’t going to be a cake walk for the bears!!! I’ll not say anymore! Go Bears!!

That would mean both the general, social media using, public and also the VHSL would have an iota of common sense in either case. However, we all know that isn't the case.

  27. I saw Tazewell tonight. The Transfer has made them my pick to come out on top of the Southwest District. The Transfer is LEGIT!!! Possibly best penetrating slashing point guard in SWVA. And she is 5,11” , I’m guessing.

  30. You still don't get how lame of a move that was? If you didn't want to register then there was no need for you to take posts from registered members here and write a rebuttal somewhere they would never see it. That was a middle school girl move. But again, I'm glad you took the time to register. Most people here are nice and welcoming so if you look over me you'll probably enjoy your time here.

  34. On behalf of VHS, all we can really offer is moral support. We're kings of the mountain top in baseball, but have nothing of historical significance to offer in football. Sorry!? Maybe we can loan you our potential All-State LB for a day? Aside from that, we'll just have to cheer as loud as possible. Go Bears!!

  35. Welcome aboard, advocate! You're the only guy I recognize from preps. There's a reason we don't get on there, and why you all don't normally come here. We'll leave it at that ? As for the game, you're absolutely spot on. Your analysis is exactly what anyone who really knows football would say. I appreciate you acknowledging that Unions one deminsional offense is actually something for you all to worry about. Most appo fans wouldn't. We have a ton of respect for the raiders. I've called last years version the best high school team I've ever seen. But that was 2016. This is a new year with New raiders and new bears. Thank god lol. As for the atmosphere, I promise you all haven't seen anything like this. It may be the most electric the park will be since the late 90s and that's saying something. With pretty much all of SWVA coming, it's gonna be insane. You all have probably played in front of a larger crowd, in a larger stadium, against better teams. But not this. I guarantee this will be the first visit you all have ever made where the fans will be at the park by midnight on the night before.

  36. Agreed on the turnover game. Take always for the D is huge and will be in this game. As for our late arrival, I’m sure it’ll be a little different at our home field. Congrats on the back to back titles. That requires respect. Great run. But I’ve got a gut feeling the run stops at the Park. On a a side note, your coach seems top notch.

  38. Three games out of 13 we were held u see 14 points. And still won. Twice against a stingy Richlands team with no quit in em and once against a 6A Tennessee Morristown West. If three is a majority of 13, then sure. We only allow 10 per game though. I’m not really sure of the point u were trying to make Sir Edit: I see where u mentioned u read the wrong line. No worries.

No, they chose to leave Liberty because you can now carry a firearm on the campus of Liberty and the VHSL wanted no part of having firearms onsite at a high school title game.

  44. Mr. Blue, most games in SWVA are lopsided, teams like Richlands, Union, Graham, Gate City( not this year) are and have been the superior teams in this area, for decades. Vast majority don't have the success that these teams have had. So, that is why I made the statement that I made. You and I know that within the 1st quarter which team has the better D and O, it is easy to see and remember these are high school boys, if they are down by 21 in the first quarter--that is it. Motivation is gone, I observed this with Graham just last Saturday.

  47. The only flaw I found with Scruggs is that he predetermines who he is going to throw to. I know you have many qbs that do that but as soon as he drops back he immediately looks at who he wants to throw it to and that's usually who it gets thrown to. And besides Graves they do have other good receives that don't really get much credit that are quick and can catch the bullet throws.
    1 point
  48. over thrown cause 10 didn't have time to throw like he did on everyone else and yes Richlands is the 4-7 team you'll ever see. I promise you that. I'm calling it now, Richlands will be a 10-0 team at the end of next season. I'm union first but Richlands will be back full force next season, 2017 belongs to the bears.

  49. We had the same issue for the first couple of broadcasts this season. It's an issue with signal. For some reason, we couldn't use Skype to do ours, but when we started using a Verizon data box and using Facebook Audio, we sounded clear. So it's likely that sort of issue. The real issue is that do you actually want to hear them? When I listened a few times this season, it wasn't very good, and that's being nice.

  50. Great list of dream team coaches: Mance/Turner/B.Jones/R.Mullins Don't believe you need much else, definitely omit Owens from that category (yet to put in the time or yield production)
