  1. That’s a result that should put 1A on notice. Unlike last year, Chilhowie is a legitimate threat to bring home a state championship this year.

I am impressed with the number of "Perfect" GC Football Fans on this forum. But I must say I feel sorry for all the headaches you guys have because you know everything. Tylenol must give you guys free stock😁. Many times it has been talked about how the kids have quit or have poor attitudes and just give up. Gee, I wonder who they got their attitudes from? Everyone is constantly talking about how many hours Akers puts in compared to what they believe other coaches work. How do you know this? Do you live at the school/field? Are you constantly following Akers? If so, how do you keep your job? 🤔 People say the School Board supports Akers. Maybe they do or maybe they don't. Maybe they are actually pretty smart. They realize the numbers and talent just aren't there from Little League up. How would it look, if GC still didn't perform to everyone's Highest Standards? I mean GC's "Perfect" Fans just cannot be wrong. Akers has be to the blame for everything. I'm pretty sure I saw him doing some sort of Voodoo spell to conjure up Hurricane Florence just so GC wouldn't have to lose again this Friday. I guess he failed at that too🤦‍♀️

You are correct. He IS on the team...but I wont divulge his identity. Also, this is a prime example of why GC is nowhere near a turnaround. The fans are fighting. The team is turning it's back on itself. There's no pride. Gate City football is DEAD. And that sucks for SWVA.

As a parent, Yes I do want the best opportunities for my children. I have seen a Coach have such a connection with his players that the majority of them would run thru a brick wall if asked. But I have also seen said Coach not be able to do anything to reach a player. I believe alot has to do with how the kids are taught at home. If a player constantly sees/hears everyone personally attacking their coach, those feelings will spread like a cancer thru a locker room. Akers may or may not be the Best Coach for GC Football. But to say he is the ONLY problem is the 1st problem. I am all for constructive criticism. Not going to games because a team is struggling and the fans are trying to show the HC that he isn't supported hurts the school/kids. Can you imagine working hard on a presentation for work and when you go to present it no one shows up? I know that's a little bit of a stretch but it's the same for the kids. No matter what the outcome of the game is, if the kids are truly putting in the hard work, they are already defeated when they walk out and the stands are missing fans. The kids hear the fans heckling Akers on the sideline as well. Again, that spreads like a cancer throughout. You just can't put all the blame on Akers. GC Fans say there will be all kinds of people applying for the HC position when it becomes available. I think they have actually put a bitter taste in people's mouth in how they have shown their "school spirit". Akers has more support around SWVA than GC Fans would like. There is a way of handling these these situations and GC Fans have failed their team.

  5. I must say I highly commend the Richlands faithful for remaining true to their team, coach and school. Others can be unrealistic at times, too quick to blame everything else for a loss other than the other team is better and we need to keep working to get better. You all are first class. Never too high about a win or too low about a loss. You are a great example. Good luck the rest of the year.

  6. From a Central perspective we felt like if we caught a couple of breaks we could win this game. We needed one or two more big breaks. The pick 6 hurt us and the slow (shell shocked) start hurt us. Other than that, we grew up a ton during this game. It would have certainly done more for us to win, but to keep it close like that and not give up, that was huge for our young guys. Many times we have 6 or 7 freshmen out there on the field with a few sophomores and an upperclassmen or two. VHS is a good team, and they have several studs who are as advertised. It was a clean well played game on both sides.

  7. But that's also the same River View team that gave up 61 last week...holding Hurley to 8 at the half...

You don't have to be "perfect" to realize he's in over his head. That's been evident since he's been there. I'm not sure how many hours he puts in, but he could be there 24/7 and it wouldn't matter. It's wonderful that you're ok with them being mediocre, but folks that have supported them decade after decade are not ok with it. When you settle for mediocrity, this is what you end up with and I'm afraid a lot of folks have "settled". You may have a son on the team. If so, why wouldn't you want the best coach and opportunity for them? The money brought in during football season also helps sports all year long. When you go from 5,000 for each home game to less than 1,000, those numbers add up. There's a lot more to it than just wins and losses. As far as the "numbers and talent" not being there, GC has usually averaged mid-upper 40's each year. We didn't always have the best talent during the Colobro years, but he got every bit of effort and talent that he could get out of each player. There was no "voodoo" then. He was just a helluva football coach with outstanding assistants. I don't mean anything I've said to sound offensive in any way, but I've followed this program for more than 40 years and I've traveled thousands of miles to support the kids. It's heart breaking for me to see what's happened to the entire program.

  9. I am biased since I am from there but I would go with the West Virginia Mountaineers!!! Exciting offense!! Plays in a good conference!! Great QB, especially this year and an early Heisman hopeful in Will Grier!! Defense not too shabby either!!

  10. Somewhere, in a dark and lonely corner of a musty old bar, cigarette smoke whirled from the breeze created by a squeaky ceiling fan. The old man in a well worn VT hat lifted a solitary eye brow, breaking his long stare into the shot of cheap bourbon 🥃 sitting before him, when the juke box came to life. The stranger had made his selection and the machined whirrred as the record fell into place. “Mind if I join you”, he asked the crumpled shell of a man. The craggy old Hokie’s instinct was to tell the stranger to go to hell. But as the words formed on his lips, enter Sandman blared from the music box. His face softened, just a bit, as his brow unfurled. “Sure”, he mumbled to this kindred soul. “Michael Vick”, he said as he half raised his glass in toast. “Michael Vick”, was the only reply. ”...hush little baby...exit light, enter night...”

  11. 'Bout what we all thought it would be, throw the ball deep and run under it for the score. I'm proud of the fact that the blues did not quit and scored 17 on a 4-A school. To bad we face another tough situation next week and the week after. Hopefully playing this caliber of talent will make the later part of the season a success. Proud of the BLUES!!!

  13. The thing is that we faithful Blues fans always hopes for the win, but we know how hard it is to win all of them. We appreciate good football even if it results in a loss, and the only thing most of us expect is for the Blues to show up and play hard, and that's what they have done, and i think they always will. I for one can not accept someone calling themselves a faithful fan and then getting on some board for discussion and bashing their own team. As adults we should never bash any player on any team especially our own. I know some get upset with coaching and the way some games are officiated, but we should rise above the fray and lift up these young men who play this game that we all enjoy watching, no matter which team they play for. Having said that mouth full, I will say that Blacksburg has a good team, loaded with speed and talent and I hope they continue to do well in the future, just not when they play the BLUES!!!!

    Giles@Narrows

Giles and Narrows both are bad football teams plain and simple. This was the waves best chance to get a win and yet again it's the same ole story different year. I think what this game came down to was competition...Giles played 2 very good teams but lost to both while narrows played no team with a pulse...and sad thing is narrows very well may finish 9-1 with their schedule I just hope Giles can pull it together, get some players healthy and get a winning season out of this one...if we have a winning season then imo the coaching staff has done a wonderful job with the way this season has went to this point

  15. That's the thing, They were playing a VERY good 4A school. The Blues are going to be a good team, but have some things to work on, and a lot of people don't realize that they are young too. They play several sophs anbd freshman and have a very bright future ! Proud of how they never quit and played hard in the 2nd half when it would have been easy to have a let down ! Keep working and playing hard Blues..........it will pay off in the neaer future !

  16. Uhh.... I'm an alumnus of the Polytechnic Institute (Class of 1993) and I care about college soccer. I also continue to revel in our 2007 bass fishing national championship. But don't let me get in the way of a good internet scrum. Carry on.

  17. You know that when VT finally wins a national championship (it might be in 2050, but it has to happen sometime), you’ll act like that non-revenue sport (wrestling, men’s soccer, etc.) is the only sport that has ever existed. Just like VT fans acted like the men’s hammer throw was an NCAA team sport when VT had an athlete place 1st individually some years back. But if you really want to pull that card, at least UVA has been ranked #1 in both revenue sports. Even football. 🙂

  20. True. Chilhowie was a vastly improved team against my Canes in week 1 compared to 2017. They've only gotten better each week this season.
