I call dibs on nominating this as the worst thread of 2018!

Abingdon does NOT "play down", they are in a "mixed" conference, like a LOT of other schools in Va. Maybe you should go to 3A Christainsburg, where 2/3rds of their district foes are 4A or 5A. They are NOT "allowed" to win a title - they have to earn it just like any school, in any sport. Winning a district tite has NOTHING to do with making the playoffs anymore... hasn't in who knows how long. (Maybe it does in the 'minor' sports - I don't know.)

I don't really care but it will be interesting to see if opinions change if Abingdon starts to rule the Mountain....just sayn.

@Widespread_PanicI’m cool with you having your own opinion and what you believe will happen, may end up happening. I’m just curious as to why you think Va High is a bad team. VHS has underperformed this year But they have had a much tougher schedule than anyone in the M7.

If we fumble 7 times again this week we'll lose to Battle a 2a school so it doesn't matter how many kids they have.

If from Union and I love it because they're in our district. It helps prepare all the other schools come playoff time. And you may want to do a spell check next time.

I didn't intend to diminish this accomplishment, but I can see your point as I reread my analogy. Securing the school's first playoff berth is commendable and Phil Robbins deserves the credit. His only district losses in '81 were to Narrows and Giles, which meant he beat both Radford and Blacksburg. The former New River District was comparable in difficulty to the old SWD and LPD. For Richlands to get to 4, Grayson has to lose Monday and Friday this week. What they directly control is the winner of this game will be the 5 and the loser will be the 6. A (likely) trip to Graham awaits the loser. The Blues need to win this one.

I played for POSS Bolling,before that Maddox, he took a under achieving program and developed a good foundation, won state and left coaching just like he said he would. A thing that is being forgotten is this , Phil Robbins had 3 very talented boys Andy, Wes and Brad , Wes and Andy won state , Brad went to state and finished 2nd. The shelves may have been stocked but old Phil bright talent with him

Technically and legally, yes. BUT, they generally follow the recommendations of the administration unless there is some sort of dispute or controversy.

The premier high school football All-Star game in the state of Virginia has started sending their selection packages out. We found out today that one of SWVA’s representatives in the game will be a Virginia High Bearcat. Congratulations to Aaron Rose in getting the rare honor for a Bearcat. The entire Bearcat Nation (especially this Bearcat Dad) is very proud for our school to have a participant in this prestigious game. If anyone gets word of another SWVA kid getting the honor to play in this game, let’s post in this thread, so when the time comes, we can track, and support the young men who will no doubt represent our area proudly.

I want a person of character who will use football as a means of teaching functional life lessons to help GC kids be successful off the field. It doesn’t matter a bit to me where they come from. Darren Reed is like my wife - not the best, but the best that I can do. 😂

Tazewell has the talent, there coaching staff just needs to step up and learn how to coach football. You can’t run the whole game then only pass 3 or 4 times.
