  1. Also be on the look out for any train horns laying around. From what I hear it's the only thing that scares Appomattox. They just might forfeit the game if they hear one.

  2. No pressure Union guys but this is basically the Allies vs. the Axis .... please don't let the Germans win!!

  4. Not a Giles fan, but I've watched Appomattox. Graves is not faster than Cooke, however Graves is a much better play maker than Cooke. Yes, Scruggs is better than allen. He is much more experienced and has more play makers around him than Allen does.

What is the craziest stadium you ever watched a game in? For me it has to be Big Creek WVA

  9. The thing about Appo is the overall play of the whole team. If you stop the slant and begin to put heat on the QB, they will screen you to death. If you stop the run inside they will option you outside. They are a good over all team, but Union has just as good a team if they don't get sucked into playing Appo's game. As stated here before, GROUND & POUND, keeping the ball away from the Appo offence. Another team that use to do this well was the old Gate City under Harry Frye, 4 downs and a cloud of dust was one of his favorite sayings. I remember 4th and 4 on his own 18 yard line and GC went for it and made 5 yards and a first. To me Union has that kind of offense and one heck of a defense. I saw them play Richlands twice this year, and I have no doubt that if they don't let Appo get them out of their game, all Union fans will celebrate a victory at Bullit Park. Go Bears!!!!!

  10. I actually think WVMetronews will show them live. They did last year and it's free.

  11. Several things here. 1. Graham will NOT be the 1 seed in the region. That will be Gate City. Graham and Union will fight for the 2 seed, and I'll give the slight edge to Graham, although Union will have Mitchell. 2. Region C may be the best top to bottom region, but GC has the best player in 2A and a couple of other pieces that will make it hard to beat them. You wanna beat GC, you're gonna have to go score probably 75-85 a night. Good luck with that. 3. GC is more than hype. This is a team with a Georgetown commit, a D1 caliber junior and a now-sophomore that can light it up. Add in a few role players, and they have what they need. They are not hype. 4. They can't control their competition on their schedule. They have to play the M7 teams, and only Union is really capable of putting up a fight. And with their location in the state, heading up to Roanoke or wherever on a Tuesday night in January just isn't feasible. I also have Radford coming out of C, but they won't beat GC if they play. Book it now.

    Podcast Questions?!?

Will the winner of this game win state or will it be the winner of A and B.

  13. 2 things worry me....Graves, and Scruggs escaping the pocket for long gains. If we take away the quick pass and contain Scruggs, we win. I just don't think they will be able to run on us consistently.
    1 point
  14. The only flaw I found with Scruggs is that he predetermines who he is going to throw to. I know you have many qbs that do that but as soon as he drops back he immediately looks at who he wants to throw it to and that's usually who it gets thrown to. And besides Graves they do have other good receives that don't really get much credit that are quick and can catch the bullet throws.
    1 point
  15. Exactly! I feel confident we can stop the run, and I know we can get pressure on deep throws, but that slant happens so fast, unless you have a VERY well placed LB, Graves is gone.
    1 point
  16. You don't beat Appo by breaking off long runs. You ground and pound and limit their possessions. They have given up close to 700 rushing yards in 2 games. If you can't run on them, then you're in trouble because their secondary is forreal so you don't want to pass the ball.

    Podcast Questions?!?

IF Appo loses, what are the odds the fans don’t manage to somehow deem it as home cooking from the refs? (they probably will) I see a lot of people on various boards talk about buletin board material. Based on your knowledge and probably Brady’s firsthand insider info as a player, how often do posts on a site like this end up on a locker room wall? Has it happened at Richlands and if so how often? What are your opinions on the idea of televising local games? I remember probably 2007-2008 Richlands games used to be shown on Saturday mornings I believe on I think now a defunct local channel if I’m remembering correctly, but never live. Do you think it’s more of a benefit in regards to those that are sick, elderly, disabled, or that work too late to make it to a lot of games and get a seat? Or would it be more of a problem in that you risk folks staying home because it would be easier, especially for away games and therefore hinder attendance.

  19. If asked by the right Union personnel, I'm sure he would bring it. Giles would like nothing more than for Appo to hear the horn.

    Podcast Questions?!?

How many fans will Appo bring? Will Ryan feel odd cheering for a team that is not only NOT Richlands, but a rival? Will the Giles train horn make a star studded appearance in BSG? What must Union do to stop the quick passing attack of Appo? Will the crowd have an effect on the Appo players? If so, how long will it take for them to settle down?
    1 point
  21. If we cant get Giles' train horn maybe our neighbors and friends from Gate City might just bring there horn. It would be a well appreciated gesture (hint hint wink wink). And also maybe our buddies in Lee county might just bring the cannon down too. Just some simple suggestions lol

    Podcast Questions?!?

It seems as if Appomattox hates noise from the other crowd. That was the case with what I saw on the live stream the other day. SWVA has some very noisy stadiums. This may be obvious but in your opinion, as a fellow bandie, what role do crowd noise and bands playing in giving their team an advantage?
    1 point
  23. Cooke is a great Athlete but if I'm picking between him or Graves I'm going with Graves. He is more of a playmaker from what I've seen in person and on film. And if he gets half a step on your secondary he's taking it to the house. Appomattox is well coached all the way around. They play smart, disciplined football but they can be beat. And Union has the best chance of anyone else in 2A to do that IMO. I think the 12th man will really make a difference in this game. Be as loud as you can for 48 minutes.

  24. Giles fans, I have a question for you since you've seen both Graham and Appomattox. First, is Graves faster than Cooke? And second, is scruggs better than Allen? And if so, where?

    Podcast Questions?!?

Bullitt Park! Best home field advantage? I played at Appy. Walking down those steps in the metal tip cleats felt amazing. And enjoyed seeing it after I graduated. Play at Bullitt vs PV and won a state title there. There is indeed magic in the Park. What are your thoughts as to some of the best stadiums that give their team the home field advantage?

    Podcast Questions?!?

I am going to be that guy... compare the Union/Graham game and Union/Richlands game. At the end of the season if Richlands and Graham was playing for the state championship who would win? Pure speculation, but seeing as how Richlands progressed and visibly Graham regressed is what I am referring to by who was the better team at the end of the season.

  32. Lot of smack being said here, we enjoyed the game yesterday, film today , going back to work Monday, Appo, will not lie down and they tend to rise up based on who they are playing. Don’t forget last year, they said they kept the starters in to make a statement . They will come here determined and ready, Union went to Clarke Co thinking they already punched their ticket 2 years ago. This will be a very tough test for Union

  36. Graham is the best team Union played. Richlands is the team that played Union best.

  37. When he ran down Owens that surprised me more than the score. That kids speed is crazy, and Owens is one of our fastest players also if not the fastest.

  38. A true D1 athlete would’ve gotten 31 feet up an came down with that pass, then returned it for a score while running on his hands and holding the ball with his feet?
    1 point
  39. Most Richlands fans I know will be there, be loud, and be proud of SWVA. I know Union has the right formula to get this win, and I think Appo don't know what they are heading into with all the supporting fans from around SWVA showing up at the Bullit on the Union side. Appo is going to see a lot of lightening "R"s in the stands making a lot of noise for the Bears. Go!!!!Union Bears!!!!
