  1. I'll use a business analogy to describe Phil Robbins. He became the manager of an underperforming store (John Battle), but couldn't turn a profit in six years. He was then hired to manage the Christiansburg store for the next six years and turned a small profit (one playoff loss). Next, he was hired to manage the Powell Valley store where the previous manager (Bolling) had turned the store from average into the best performing store in the state. Robbins continued to successfully manage the store for the next 20+ years.

  3. The premier high school football All-Star game in the state of Virginia has started sending their selection packages out. We found out today that one of SWVA’s representatives in the game will be a Virginia High Bearcat. Congratulations to Aaron Rose in getting the rare honor for a Bearcat. The entire Bearcat Nation (especially this Bearcat Dad) is very proud for our school to have a participant in this prestigious game. If anyone gets word of another SWVA kid getting the honor to play in this game, let’s post in this thread, so when the time comes, we can track, and support the young men who will no doubt represent our area proudly.

  4. It’s wishful thinking to think that he’s saving something for the playoffs. The offensive playbook was opened up when we played Central, yet last night it was very, very basic. If in your two biggest games of the year (RV and Abingdon) you have a hard time opening it up, there’s no way it’ll happen in the win or go home playoffs.

Only one that comes to mind ironically is the half back seam to Jenkins against Richlands that went for a 70!yd TD. Kinda proves our point.

I thought the TV and camera crew did a great job. I would love to see more local high school games televised. Back to the game, any word on #43s injury?

    Abingdon @ Union

Exactly. That’s one of many things going on that are uncharacteristic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the aggressiveness. But it’s a double edged sword that when is going bad, it’s awful.

Never seen them play this undisciplined and that goes back to their 1st season when they went 5-5.

Too many fumbles(radio said 7), mistakes, cramps, missed assignments, players going both ways and horrible passes. The injury to Polier didn't help either. I said it after the benefit game with Va High that the lack of depth was a concern and it showed tonight. The players were gassed in the 4th quarter. The Falcons came to play and Union couldn't get out of their own way. Congratulations Abingdon on a great win and the Mountain 7 championship.

    Abingdon @ Union

Congrats to the Falcons. You can’t beat a team with 5-7 fumbles (I don’t know the exact number) and two bad snaps on punts that give them field position inside the 20. Abingdon executed when they needed to though, and you can’t take that away from them. Union has some real issues going on. I’m sure everyone else’s opinion on these certain subjects are pretty close to mine.

I'd love to see the Warriors get a state title. From my eldest wrestling vs their kids to the youngest's competing at the Apple Festival they have always been friends to us.

The 2018 team is one of the best ever to come out of Chilhowie. I'd rank them alongside 1971, 1980, 2001, and 2010.

The big thing that people really underestimate around here because it's so rare that they see it, is how big of a difference it can be when a team has so much talent that they don't have to run players both ways. Football is a physically demanding sport, and being able to run players exclusively on offense or defense, especially in 1A is a HUGE advantage. We'll see what happens. They will not have an easy path at all, especially if they run into Galax in the semis and Riverheads in the finals, but I've never seen a 1A team that looks the part of state title contenders more than the Warriors this year.

  30. Sure. He’s been most effective in with regards to energy legislation, especially on hydropower, which I believe is the wave of the future. He’s also voted generally in line with conservatives on important matters for SWVA, such as opioid litigation and small business protection. That alone is far greater than what Boucher accomplished in his waning years.

  31. About 20 years too long (1983-2011). He mailed it in from about the mid-1990s until he was unseated. He was very active on matters in the technology and IP sectors, but neglected much in terms of what directly impacts SWVA.
