Congrats to Thad for improving his career, do not blame him in the slightest. Understandably the timing was terrible, but also understand his decision to go. I think he was expected to report to the new position today, and everything had to move fast for that to happen. I hope all involved in naming a replacement will take time to review all applicants and not rush into this decision. I for one would like to see a different route taken in this decision. I think it would help the program to bring in an outsider to fill the position. I know everyone has their opinion, and most have someone in mind, but maybe someone out of our immediate area could shake everything up in a good way. Our school system is so politically polluted, with my friend this and your friend that, it may be good to install someone who is not attached to any of those in our area, but just a good football coach with a good heart, and good reputation in working with young people. This may seem to many as an impossibility, but imo it might be best.

  2. Just woke up from celebrating the state basketball title. I see we are playing for region football championship too? What a charmed life we live in BSG.

  3. Thats a legit factor. The SWD has Spread Gun teams at the top, the M7 has Under Center run based teams with the 2A teams being 3 back, RV being the only strong Gun team in the M7 (GC actually throws the ball well but struggles in other areas). If you're not used to playing physical football in tight spaces it's very different. A decade and a half ago the Spread was the new thing: coaches didn't know how to defend it, players weren't comfortable defending it. Now that script has flipped and 3 back offenses with a TE or two are abnormal and have an advantage. Look at the difference in Lebanon when they started mixing in/basing out of the Power-I. All of a sudden they're competitive. There are other contributing factors but offensive style is absolutely part of it.

UVA is historically pretty tight lipped about personnel and Bronco is that to an extreme degree. Would not surprise me if Wells had to “prove himself” or some other probationary measure before earning a listing.

That's the one thing that I find most curious about this situation. Given the very public manner in which Coach Wells had to separate from Richlands, I would have expected some kind of corresponding hiring announcement from Charlottesville. Relying solely on Google, I have yet to see anything like that. Also curious about the nature of the position itself that he is taking. A quick visit to the official athletics site at UVa provides a listing of the football staff. I see several "analyst" positions listed but no obvious vacancies related to position coaching.

  8. Nah man not you at all. I'm gonna play nice and just say if a betting man was fading someone else's proclamations about local sports over the last six months or so, they'd be wealthier than they started lol

  9. Not taking a shot at him but that’s a play that Bradshaw most likely runs down if he was playing. not sure if it was mentioned or not but on 4th down why did graham throw a pass that even if ur was completed wouldn’t have netted a first down? Seems like taking a shot there or putting to pin them deep would’ve been the better option, Ultimately it came down to union playing to Union playing to win on the last play and Graham playing for overtime.

Don't totally agree with that, but can see your point. I still say it's time to bring in someone who is not connected to the area, and I'm sure there will be several applicants for this position. The major problem in our area is hiring a head coach and expecting him to keep all the assistant coaches on board, tying his hands right away. You often can not change the system to your way of coaching, unless you build your own system, and that may mean changing the assistant coaches, and bringing in coaches who will bye into your scheme of things. I know some already established assistants may bye into the new coaches scheme, but to often we have a tendency to revert back to what we are comfortable with, so to me it's time for a BIG BIG CHANGE!!

I agree a complete outsider would be best; loves football, loves kids, good reputation, etc. plus someone who doesn’t know or hasn’t worked under current administration of RHS. Let’s face it, no coach wants to deal with that mess.

  17. I tend to agree with this after watching some of Central’s games on NFHS. I look for a good game though. I still think Central wins and I predict 44 from Union gets ejected. Not sour grapes but that kid should have been ejected yesterday. He’s a loose cannon. He ripped a Graham player’s helmet off and then took a swing at the same kid later. He shouldn’t even by playing against Central IMO.

  18. Drill & kill , get their heads in the right place. A weak district doesn’t help because a good team gets used to winning against not so good teams (no offense intended). Having out of district games against more notable programs rather than say, Princeton, will benefit Graham. I like the teams they’ve added. It might get them out of being spoiled by lack of competition.

  19. That's the type of game film as a coach you want to show up Monday for practice and run Oklahoma drills till you have 11 guys left standing 🤣. Best thing Graham can do is remember that beating as best they can till August. Use it for fuel to bounce back.

  20. I know that particular DB has taken a ton of criticism for the last play, but like @Gridiron60 said there was a few others out there that halfway tried to make a tackle as well. Granted he completely dodged the runner and then come up "hurt" but their "attempts" wasn't much. After watching this game live then watching it again on nfhs the more frustrated I get😂 I guess human nature is to figure "why" or "what" went wrong. My only conclusion is weak schedule(no fault of their own). Maybe not as much weak as we didn't face a team all year that ran downhill like Union did. Is that a lame excuse? Maybe so lol. Going forward if I'm Palmer. I'd be more concerned with the LB play than anything else. Just my opinion. Take it for what its worth 😂

  22. There were about four that could have got him including that young man. He’s played pretty well most of the season too. No excuse for those boys letting him score.

  26. That 83 playoff game was bizarre. If you had looked at the stat sheet without knowing the final score, you'd have assumed PV had won by a couple of TD+. PV spent the entire day starting every drive with terrible field position, and moved the football up and down the field but could never punch it in and lost 7-3.

Best wishes to Thad Wells. I could never fault a coach for wanting to move on to bigger and better things, or climb up the ladder when an opportunity were to present itself. Thad Wells would not have been offered the position if he were not successful in his past, and that past included hard work. He told the principal at Richlands immediately when he decided to take the position and that's what you are supposed to do. The decision for him to move on and not coach the Ridgeview game was the Principal's, not his. Folks, we are talking about UVA here, not Wise. This is a big deal. Richlands folks should be incredibly happy for guy who is coaching at a FBS-BCS school. That's an incredible opportunity and he would have to be a fool to turn that down. He's going to quadruple his pay.

Thad Wells is now the Lane Kiffin of Richlands. Though Kiffin won more games.
