    Lil' Leonard's Losers

Well folks, we're back and unretired. Uncle Percy was wanting to unretire last year when his UN-beloved Salem Toy Soldiers lost 3 in a row (I believe that was last year). Uncle Percy was doing cartwheels, back flips, jumping up and clicking his heels together, and even won a Flat Footin' Contest. (1- he can't dance worth a lick; 2- we all thought he had a "bad" back). That was UNTIL, UNTIL he and Cousin Delbert went to Johnson City, TN and got to see The Donald J Trump, President, third row seats. Well folks football pickin' was out and politicin' was in. Didn't take long for Uncle Percy to find out he was much better at football pickin' than be a politician. We had our picks for last week but, Uncle Percy ran off with them in his pocket when he and Delbert went off chasing a U.S. Senator from Virginia. Time to pick some losers. Bluefield, WV at Princeton This is the opener for the Tigers. The Tigers haven't had much success against the Flat Tails in a long, long, long, long time. They hope to change this Friday. The Flat Tails smacked the Feds around last week and won their "track" meet. The Flat Tails will be looking to defend and win another Mercer Cup (The Feds are included) this Friday. The Tigers will come out roaring but will find out that no matter how loud you roar, a Tiger is no match for a Flat Tail. Lil' Leonard's Loser: Princeton Honaker and Castlewood: The Orange Tabbies will cross Buzzard's Roost to take on the Blue Imps of Castlewood this Friday trying to claim another Buzzard's Roost Trophy. The Tabbies clawed their way to a victory over The Buckskin LongRifles of Lebanon last Friday. However, The Blue Imps ran into a bunch of Rowdy Rebels last week and it was not pretty. We doubt that The Imps will have enough time to repair and resharpen their pitchforks by Friday for a Tabbie attack. Looks like "Dean" Hubbard's Orange Tabbies will be taking home The Buzzard's Roost Trophy. Lil Leonard's Loser: Castlewood Richlands and Union Coach did not win number 200 last week and Uncle Percy had written a nice little jingle about the Generals and Bears last week. This week The Big Blue Wind Machine will be blowing into Bullit Park to do some Bear wrestling. The Bears sharpened their claws last week against a bunch of, not to well armed for Bear Hunting, Generals. The BBWM will be blowing extra hard this Friday after their lost to Gate City. The BBWM will be flinging the ball all over the place, Yet, they will not have enough wind to blow these Bears away. Lil Leonard's Loser: Sorry Coach Mance, Richlands. Rye Cove and Hurley Interesting game, both are 1 - 0. The Eagles will be flying into The Cliff hoping to build a Roost on top of it. Don't know much about the 1 - 0 Eagles because they have yet to play a game. Last week they won 1 - 0 over the Jenkins Cavaliers by forfeit. Now the Rebels rolled into Naugatuck and came away with a hard fought victory over The Tug Valley Brawlers. Now Naugatuck is a tough place, even on Sundays, to win a football game. These Eagles may be in big, big trouble. Look for The Eagles to be flying home minus a lot of tail feathers. Lil' Leonard's Loser: Rye Cove

  2. Forest is an anomaly. He only plays a few plays a game but he is the best in the state at what he does. A 59 yd field goal is awesome but it had little effect on the game. Lester's performance was incredible. He played every snap until he left with a minute to go after crashing into the Bluefield bench at high speed. He gave it his all on every play and the results were apparent. You don't have to win to be great and his performance was great. If you had to pick one player to start a team with for one year and you had to select from this board's coverage area you would pick Lester. Other players such as Sean Martin and Levi Forest are better at their individual skill but I'll start my team with Lester.

  3. People do stuff that Lester and Adkins do, every single season. They both had impressive games. But name me the last time you saw a high school kicker make a 59 yarder (more than most NFL guys can make) with no wind at his back and still have 4-5 yards of clearance? Legitimately may be the single most impressive thing I've seen at a Richlands game ever. Adam Vinatieri's career long is 57 and he's the GOAT.

  4. Maybe their should be a special team player of the week...but it wouldn't be fair because Levi would win it every week except for when Richlands has an open date.

  5. Jones performance was more impressive because that defense’s only key was to stop him and if memory serves me correct , He was injured on a negative yardage sweep in the 2nd quarter . He sat out a good 10 minutes of the game then came back in and put up 150 plus yards in the 4th

  7. I know and I agree. The bitter blood rivalry games are only fun if you win and sometimes not even then but rivalries like UHS/RHS are always well-played and great games with no off the field drama stuff. I'm not sure there has been a more competitive rivalry that has resulted in better games in the state over the last decade then Bears/Blues. Even when Richlands struggles and barely makes the playoffs, they are dogfights, a la the 2017 playoff game in BSG. Mance out-schemed Turner big time there, and the more talented home team only escaped bc of Mitchell and his athletic ability. Glad to see he caught his first TD yesterday, even tho they lost. With Richlands and VT both losing you had a rough weekend lol. could be worse, you could be a UT fan lololol

    Lebanon vs Central

Central will dominate til they run into the heavyweights of their conference. Central has some of the quickest backs I have seen play at wise in some time. As for Eastside I think scoring points won’t be a problem for them they were one of the best offenses around here last year and could be this year with the athletes they have. but it doesn’t matter if your defense can’t stop anybody.

  15. i always like reading your take on things. you sound like you would make a good head coach. we drove over to the game because we played on friday. I would have to agree with the above statement. Central is fast and better, and i think they will be the better team tonight. i don't think they can match our strength next week, but will be a tuff out for some teams this year. us, abingdon, and union are the class of the mountain 7 and i feel like we will get abingdon at home this year but we will have to wait and see. the only thing i worry about with us is play calling

  17. There’s always that “ he’s just a kicker “ argument. But when you take a look at the whole picture, the game has changed to accommodate offenses. Turf fields, rules changes , spread offenses , poor tackling and passive defenders. I remember thinking what the Peoples kid did a few years ago was untouchable. But every Saturday morning , you’re reading how some kid at almost any school has put up 200 plus yards on the ground. Sometimes carrying 30 times or more. I remember a kid at Pikeview running for 350 a couple years back. You guys are giving Beavers defense too much credit. They looked horrible tackling, trying to strip the ball on every play instead of wrapping up. The APC, twitter and FB has made these kids household names but they still gotta show it on the field. Martin and Davis sat out the whole 3rd quarter. If kids like RJ Buford and Jake Lilly would’ve had the hype that these kids have backing them, they would’ve been D1 easy. Give Levi Forrest credit, his accomplishments on Friday are universal for any era of football. The ball still has to clear the line and travel wether into the wind or with it.

  18. I went to this game two years ago, after Shelby Valley and Ridgeview played on a Thursday night, and arrived at 6:30 and was still able to get a great seat on the top row of the visiting bleachers.

  20. KHSAA website is very resourceful when it comes to looking up stats. Lol. Well, I looked at it again... it was actually 9 passes. Lol Their QB is 3-9 on the season for 62 yards and 2 TD's.

  21. I reserve Coalfield Sports dot com rules. You have to win the game in order to be nominated POTW. Graham and Richlands did not win their games. Ridgeview did. :P In all seriousness, if Richlands and Graham were in the WCYB coverage area, would Adkins have still won their player of the week? I guess we'll never know. Does WVVA have a player of the week?

    Ab vs gc?

Gate City is coming off and emotional slobber Knocker, Abingdon is coming off a easy week 1 game where I believe their starters was out mid 3rd QTR at Least. Abingdon has ton of talent and athletes Gate City has some Talent and Tons of Heart. Abingdon I think has the edge in this one being more rested due to their starters getting a qtr and a half off this past Friday. I prob. should pick with my head on this one and take Abingdon to win, but ill like heart over talent in lots of cases and this is one of those cases. Legion Field will be Rocking Friday night im sure as their Devils pound the rock eating up Clock and eliminating Abingdons possessions and pulls out another tough win!!!!

I agree, I am not saying they are the caliber of Abingdon or Ridgeview, but I could see them giving Union and the rest of the M7 a fit.......I may be wrong, but they definitely have improved over the last few years.

  28. Lester's performance was one for the ages. Haven't seen an opponent give such a performance since Jalen Jones of Oak Hill in 2012. When you consider the level of competition his performance was awesome. Reminds me of some of those old Timex and Samsonite commercials.BTW. Saw the game film this week and the two calls that resulted in TD's being called back were the correct calls. Unfortunately the film does not show the Graham player's feet along the sideline on the fumble/strip call. The players standing on the sideline blocked the view.

  29. No problem whatsoever, just talking football. I love Bullitt Park too, although living in Bristol doesn't allow me to get over that way very often. Having played in that game in '97, it's no wonder you have such passion for the place.

  31. I respect everyone's take on it, but I got to mention the obvious one. Lester. I'm curious if some of you knew his stats against Bluefield before posting. Maybe you did, maybe you didn't, but in case you didn't, 263ish rushing yards and over 130 passing yds with other 150 passing yds negated by penalties. In summary, even with the penalties he accounted for 400 yds of offense against a team that is one bad outfit on both sides of the ball. I don't bet, but I would bet this, no single player will rush for over 225 yds against Bluefield this year, much less over 260 yds, and that includes Lord Botty and the folks upstate in WV come playoff time. One of them might beat the Beavers, but one player ain't getting those numbers on them again this year. That kid put on an absolute show and it's one of the best QB performances by a Graham QB against Bluefield in a long, long time, if not ever.

  36. Graham will have the fastest couple of players on the field. Tazewell has good team speed that can match Grahams team speed. Question is can Tazewells O-Line hold up good against a pretty good push from Graham.

    Tazewell @ Graham

I knew about and mentioned Bluefield’s QB and RB and their massive O-line. I did not know about House. But, like you used the word “likely”, I used “may be”. My meaning was not certain, but there’s a good chance. Lester is probably a bit faster than anyone for Tazewell too, but not by much. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe any of these boys have the elite speed that, say, Cooke had for Graham, 2 years ago. I’m talking elite, 4.3 speed. Lester, Harris, and Jordan are all really fast. The Dawg’s new QB looked like he could fly as well. My whole point was that Tazewell has a lot of speed on their offense. I’ve stated more than once, that even though that speed puts Tazewell back into the upper echelon of teams in Region D, Graham is still in a league of their own, overall, in the region. My initial post that @GMan quoted, was talking about the offenses that Graham will face this season. Bluefield may very well have more team speed, but when you have everything else that program has, all aspects of the team are magnified, immeasurably. The kids that will be responsible for the overwhelming majority of offensive touches for Tazewell have a lot of speed. That’s all my post meant. I didn’t forget anyone, nor am I trying to slight anyone. That’s the only meaning.

  38. Somebody that knows more should definitely verify, but I think he pulled in 12 TD catches & has some big runs (off jet sweeps). I think he had some big returns. I’m the type that can remember what I had for breakfast in 1988 but can’t remember yesterday. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Bullitt Park? Yes, many times. Including PV/App '97. Which I believe will be the best high school game I will ever attend. As for Blues/Bears? I haven't. Although I did attend Richlands/PV games in the past. For this week though I still think Chilhowie/JIB will be a more competitive game but all the fun happens Friday night and we shall see.

Yea, you would think, but numbnuts Tech hasn't offered yet. This stuff makes me so upset at my Hokies. They offer Parris a partial or preferred, then WVU comes and offers full. Smart for WVU. If your Tech, it's obvious. The kid is in your back yard. It's clear he can kick, and it's clear Texh wouldn't have to worry about a kicker for 4 years, but nope....the Hokies have to show the old folks in SWVA how big of school it is and how VT is at such an elite level that the offer isn't in yet. Meanwhile, they will recruit another 4 star athlete who played QB in Chicago and can't hit the broad side of a barn from within, and then that kid will transfer to Old Dominion in 2 years. That's my rant and enough posts for today. I am visiting Charleston, SC, and it's raining like a madman here and I'm bored and it's time to drop the mic for a few days. Go Graham High!
