I'm closing this thread with a final thought... The rest of the Mountain 7 fans are correct...Union fans are the biggest bunch of crybabies in this end of VA, not to mention the rudest bunch at games. It's really sad that some of you take this so seriously. I suggest you get help or stop going to the games because there is way more in life to be bitching over than a penalty or two. Sorry about that...rant over...8 points

Lord help us!! Now this I can see this being what the VHSL would be wanting to stop. Calling out kids.... But to tell a home announcer to be hum drum is boring! We should be trying to amp up the atmosphere, not squelch it. Better atmosphere means more tickets sold, more fun of the kids on the field and students in the stands Loved my trips to the Park in BSG. That's what HS football should be like.3 points

Carroll County filed a complaint with VHSL last season resulting in Galax High School receiving a $400 fine by VHSL because a Galax fan had a cow bell in the stands. It was a topic of discussion a few weeks ago leading into the beginning of the season. Galax Administration met with the Marching Band, Band Boosters (me) and the Band Director to discuss what would be allowed and where we should err on the side of caution. Fast forward a year, during the 3rd game of the season week before last at Carroll, their band played while our offense was on the field several times. The PA announcer made several references to "helping out our Cavaliers" by getting loud, their fans had numerous cow bells, and their band walked over behind the endzone and attempted to play over our band right before halftime. My point is, I don't know what's allowed and disallowed anymore. It's all gotten ridiculous given we live in a perpetual state of butthurt in this country nowadays.3 points

By my logic, George Wythe had ZERO to do with the conversation as the discussion was Galax vs Radford and Galax having some success moving the ball on the ground. 250ish yds speaks for itself. What I wrote is exactly as it was stated. When teams rush for 250 yards and they turnover 1 time or less, they usually win the game. That's a true statement. I also clearly stated.....and clearly, "not by my logic" but clearly stated that I wasn't stating Galax would have won this game with only 1 turnover, but would it have likely been closer? Common sense says the answer is yes.2 points -

I can't speak for my bosses, but I'd be knocked off my rocker if ATVs were ever permitted in the Bluestone. Now, there will be disc golf and hiking trails, and I'd suspect mountain biking trails at some point down the line. That property is being developed very carefully. As for the ISC, there needs to be substantially more lodging and dining for that to work as envisioned. You can host a million AAU tournaments, but families aren't driving from Norfolk to stay at the Fincastle Motor Inn and eat at Hardee's.2 points -

Yeah, I don't know how or why that happened. I was pretty certain I'd seen it on the flyer in the office when I was getting tickets in August. Guess not. Unless they changed it. Either way -- I call 🐔 🐔 on that scheduling. Why have those girls out there in cooler weather for homecoming court?? Cause you felt a little too "confident" that Union could spoil our ceremonies -- and felt even more confident that Battle wouldn't. Last year setting it during a winnable (though barely) game against Lee was at least logistical based on the orginal schedule. Now it's just beginning to feel like you're setting up low hanging fruit. Be better, guys. If there does happen to be some honestly special reason why that later date resonated so well, I'd genuinely love to hear it. But from here, it looks a whole lot like selective scheduling. Ennnnaway: That shouldn't affect whether or not we can win the game. Which, from hearing the Bears are one-dimensional (though still skilled and speedy), gives me hope.1 point

Hmm, according to one George Wythe poster, Galax only had 180 total yards. I knew better. Galax had nearly 250 on the ground against Radford. Final score was 28-7. Radford with one turnover. Galax had 5 turnovers. No, I am not saying Galax wins if they only have 1 turnover or don't turn it over at all, but i am saying it's closer than 28-7. If you rush for 250 yards in High School and you turn the ball over 1 time or less, you usually win the game or you are in a nailbiter.1 point -

Yes, it was a complaint. I remember last year the band got up and stood the whole game so more parents, etc. could sit. The complaint came with a tongue-in-cheek joke attached. I do think it is unfortunate to have such a nice facility with minimal visitor seating.1 point -

BoBob reacted to 1inStripes for a topic
The VHSL added about 2 years ago a rule the band isnt supposed to play when the opponent has the ball if I remember correctly. Its the dumbest thing and no team wants their band or artificial noise being played when trying to communicate a play. Taking that element away when the other team has it is just dumb and limits a reason to have a band. I hate seeing schools with no band program. They can add a lot to the atmosphere. My first ever start in HS was at Northwood HS on a Saturday for homecoming. Their band was loud. It made it difficult for a nervous freshman trying to call plays and be effective with my cadence. Thats the way it should be. I dont think announcers should call plays during the middle of play and such as I have heard at some places, but to me theres nothing wrong with them trying to keep the crowd involved between plays/crucial moments. Just as some do music for certain plays and have to stop as a snap is imminent.1 point -

I've talked many times on here about good ole Peterstown High. Kid you not, back in the day when they were on defense and it was a crucial play that could sway the game in one team's favor based on the outcome of that play, their PA announcer would come over the MIC as the opponent is at the line of scrimmage and he would say/yell, "Come on Boys, we need a Stop Here, everybody get on your feet and make some noise." When there was a controversial or 50-50 call, he would just openly say across the Mic, "I don't know about that one, might be some funny business going on out there." I would laugh my a** off at the time, but in today's time's, the average fan would have meltdown and go into full anxiety mode. Dude was basically an open commentary. If Peterstown were missing tackles, it was nothing for him to say openly on the Mic, "Boys, you got to wrap up and give a little more effort, they got some big boys out there, so hit em low and hit em hard."1 point -

"IF" that is an actual rule.....its dumb. Ive been to many games where on 3rd or 4th down the announcers try and get the crowd up and loud. You can call it "home field advantage" if you want but oh well, let it be. I've seen a many visiting crowds get loud on 3rd and 4th downs also without an announcer getting them going. How is it any different than cow bells and train horns. Seems that the head coach was just looking for something to complain about and the officials gave into to him.1 point

I totally agree. I would take PH's last couple of games with a grain of salt. It's also important to realize, it's all about matchups. Some teams match up better with other teams and vice versa. Example PH out muscled Lebanon, but Lebanon may turn around and play Virginia High closer than PH did due to better match ups skill wise.1 point -

The ole "one play argument." Perhaps, the dumbest argument ever used in the history of football. "Take that play away and........." that's the reall LOL, LOL. You can NOT take that play away. that one play is a part of football. It's part of the game. It counts. It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The ole, "If you take Micheal Vick away from VT, then......".. Fact....Michael Vick suited up, practiced, dressed, went to school at....he played for Virginia Tech. He was on the team. You can't "take him away" LOL. I just just find it laughable at the ole, "take the one play away and yada yada yada." LOL. Insanity. Same with Hunnicutt's run on Graham or Clements run on Union. That is what athletes DO. The strike on 3rd and 7 or 2nd and 10 or 4th and 19 or 1st and 10 from ANYWHERE on the field at any time. That's part of the game.1 point -

You will see the difference with Graham and Radford on the line of scrimmage when they play Galax. Galax is very, very good, but the best football team Graham will play on the line of scrimmage, IF........they keep winning from game 1 through game 15 (again, BIG IF, not declaring them champions) will be Union as far as the line of scrimmage. RV, Pulaski, Galax, GW, Radford, Appomattox, Glenvar, King William, Poquoson, Stuarts Draft) not of them will be better than Union on the line of scrimmage. Watch the difference in Graham's performance on the line of scrimmage compared to Radfords' when Graham plays Galax. Galax moved the ball on Radford between the 20's. They didn't score but once, but they moved the ball. Betcha Graham's DL does better than Radford's against Galax. One team not mentioned in this post to keep an eye on is Central Woodstock. Many forget, it was Central Woodstock that K. William beat in the semi-finals and that game was actually a battle. It was pretty close. Central Woodstock returns a senior heavy team and they may actually be as good or better than Graham and Union on the Line of Scrimmage this year, but they are much like Union. They are not very athletic, but brutally physical up front. I think Central Woodstock is the team from the East to play for the Class 2 state title this year......against......Graham or Union. No offense to Radford or RV, or possibly Appo-Glenvar, but when the chips are down, I'm picking Union/Graham winner to play for the state title.1 point -

I doubt Galax runs the ball “at will” , I guess it depends on the accepted definition of “at will” though. 😂. If 8 points means “at will” then , I can accept that position. I still think barring a ton of penalties, Graham wins comfortably. I suspect the coaches will address penalties hard in practice & especially personal fouls will be cleaned up this week.1 point -
