You know, some of us Graham and Richlands fans have been giving Gate City a hard way to go about Akers. If the timing is right Grapeape is gonna be telling Ryan if Akers is so great then Richlands can hire him! Lol

Exactly! He was gifted the perfect circumstance along with one of the best DCs in the state. I feel 100% confident that had Colobro, Meade or any other coach of equal status gotten that job along with Jones as DC, they would have won the same championships if not more.

I think next season we will play an Elimination game as well. My wife who hasn't seen a single game of football this year will pick the games every week as well. If she beats you, you are eliminated. Last week she went 7-8.

So because you've heard second hand gossip, that means Phil was a product of the environment? I could care less if I'm in the minority, I know deep in my heart I'm right. Phil was never the most popular person (I'm not sure what a town council election has to do with anything. He was a football coach, not a politician) but that means nothing when you're talking about football coaches. Phil was getting older before the school closed and maybe he did make his practices shorter. He coached for 30 years, I'll trust his opinion on how long a practice should last. How many losing seasons did Phil have at PV? Even when he got old and the talent level dipped, Phil never was worse than 5-5. It was time for him to retire and move on, but that doesn't mean he wasn't one of the top coaches ever in the area because his last three years were just mediocre. His peers mostly disliked him because he kicked their ass for so many years. Most of his players held a deep respect for Phil because: A-he was super prepared. He put in the hours and continually put his team in position to succeed. He schemes and gameplanned for every team and always had a path to victory, whether the team won or not was mostly up to the players. B-He was never afraid to take chances. If he thought something would work, no matter how risky or crazy it may seem, he would try it and more often than not it worked. C-His team's were always ready to play and were well disciplined. Penalties were a huge pet peeve and Phil would work hard to make sure his team didn't beat themselves. D-His football game management was second to none. He never had issues with time management and he never got by nerves. Ever. I could go on for days. He continually made sure the feeder program was as good as it could be And that the coaches were preparing the kids for his system. He was flexible, he would change his offensive system to best use his talent. And no matter what anyone said, Phil cared about his players and tried to help them. Phil has an abrasive personality and it rubbed some people the wrong way, but that does not take away from his coaching acumen one iota. The bottom line is, it takes a great coach to consistently win and win big. How many coaches have won 300 games? How many coaches played for state titles in THREE different decades?

Phil Robbins record speaks for itself. He had talent and good assistants for sure. Maybe one of the most important traits of a good head coach is......If it ain't broke, don't fix it and if it's working, don't screw it up.

That playoff game in 2013 against Lee was horrible. I remember people from Lee having a big red canopy set up in the stands.

We had a couple games in 2014 that were back to back against Middlesboro and Lee High at the park that were both played in absolute downpours. My friends and I refer to them as “the rain game.” Here we go again... 😂

The one thing you have to remember in high school football. When personal fouls are called on both teams they are marked off in the order of when they happened. There was a play in the Bluefield - Tazewell game where there were personal fouls on each team. I believe it was the play where Tazewell made a long run and Tazewell thought it was a TD. The ball was marked at the 2 yd line of Bluefield. The Bluefield foul was marked half the distance to the one yd line and then the Tazewell penalty was marked 15 yards to the 16. Also remember that pass interference in high school is not an automatic first down. It is only a first down if the yardage passes the marker.

On another note: Abingdon and Union will still be in the rain and mud at Bullit Park on Friday. Those that are willing to brave the elements can come on out.

I would say a bunch more will move also. Teams wanting to get ahead of the tropical depression Willa. Have bag ready and will travel I guess so at least I will be drier Thursday than Friday.

Tazewell looked flat last week. The team, the fans the coaching staff all seemed flat. Coach Harris and the sophomore group still had the fire but like someone said earlier I think a few coaches and a lot of players turned it in at Richlands. The biggest thing I'm seeing from this team is the very talented freshman group has either quit or are standing around injured. Tazewell has the chance to be very good the next couple of years but they have to get something out of that group of freshmen because there are no juniors, the sophomores are talented but don't have enough numbers to do it alone, the freshman group should be loaded but only one of them is contributing anything at the moment and the 8th grade group coming is a very thin group numbers wise as well. That being said I still think they might win a shoot out this week the sophmores are that good.

No he's not lol. Sexton barely touches the ball anymore...which is a big part of why Ridgeview has struggled over this month.

I’ll say this for any players who may be reading this board. I’ve always found it true that if you focus on doing the little things right, the big things and the accolades will follow. Stay hungry; don’t go fishing for attention; don’t read your own press clippings; and keep making yourself better every day.

Yeah there the most undisciplined team I've watched all year. But it doesn't take discipline to play football. I think it plays a big part in there game. Good team though.
