A lot easier to play chess with all your pawns on the board. Last year isn't this year. Both teams are way different. So, Im confused why the stats of two players that have graduated will be pivotal to tomorrow nights game?4 points

Just my opinion, but I think the last 2 years Graham relied Mostly on talent to win games. The gameplan didn't seem to change throughout the season and there didn't seem to be a lot of halftime adjustments. this year I've commented on how every week I've watched graham they're adjusting each week and moving kids around to find their best fit to win the game. I said after the Graham-Beaver game that Tony would rewatch it and kick himself for all the missed opportunities and for keeping Taymon outside the majority of the game and letting bluefied take him out of the gameplan. I think he seen that since Taymon is lining up all over the field and they're using him as a decoy when the ball isn't going his way. They went from predominately being in the spread against Bluefield, to running the power I against Giles, to running read options and RPO's out of the pistol against Virginia High. Graham looked like a completely different team last week in the game last week against VHS & in a good way. Coaching isn't easy and like any other profession you need experience to be great. halfway through year 3 it looks like he's got the hang of it. Hopefully he keeps making adjustments to get the most out of this talented team.2 points

Coaching Hot Seat
starcityfootballfan reacted to Union_Fan for a topic
Not really sure Central's coach needs to be on the hot seat yet. He really has made positive changes since Reed left.1 point -
If Akers lasts ten days past the last game, it will be like a Christmas Present for him. Mance has hinted at retirement, Jones is gone at Volunteer and the only reason I mention it is because of his Southwest Virginia ties. Graham Clark at DB may be retiring also, though most see him going on more year. I am sure the cronies in Scott County will do the noble thing and screw it up again at Gate City.1 point

Yep, Vulcan fits. The mention of Zeus reminded me of Vulcan, the god of fire. And that reminded me of how Graham is going to burn Ernie's scoreboard up tonight ?? but in all seriousness the Vulcan statue is something to see up close. I used to spend every 4th of July there for the fireworks celebration each summer when I was spending my summers in the Birmingham area. It doesn't look that big in the pic compared to the skyline but I remembered reading it was the biggest cast statue in the country. I never figured out why it was bare-assed though.1 point -

Wished I was. You should be watching film as a team on Monday’s and Tuesday’s at the least. Coaches are supposed to break things down and go over them with the team. Individual film study is fine once coaches and players go over what they are supposed to be looking for. I’ve never heard of a coach telling his team that they are responsible for their own film study because his laptop is tore up. That’s probably the most ridiculous thing ever. Shows how much he really cares about GC football imo.1 point -
You have to be kidding about not watching any film on John battle, right?? If that is true then Akers has quit on this team. Let him go immediately that is unacceptable!1 point

What Akers said before the Ridgeview game to the players is true. When a coach tells you not to embarrass him, that’s some absolute crap. He has done a fine job embrassing himself the past 2 years!1 point -
Fortunately we have an innovate young coach and a talented administration. Battle 63 GC 0 What we have is $250,000 invested in an 0-8 team and will most likely be an 0-9 team come later tonight. It is quite evident that our astute coach cares about no one on the sidelines but himself. People say lets give him a few more years. FOR WHAT! As the coach likes to tell the players before a few of the games, don't embarrass us tonight. Coach don't embarrass the players and the fans any more than you already have! I guess since Akers lives in Bristol, he`ll not ride to bus home and have the driver drop him off at his house.1 point

I wonder if Akers ever had his computer fixed this week. Heard earlier in the week no team film study because, “my computer is tore up. You’re responsible for watching film on your own this week” - Akers Some coach that is. You have the entire school at your disposal, plenty of computers and projectors in the classrooms. God forbid we can’t fit our 25 players into a classroom to go over film on John Battle. Heard he told a certain player yesterday, “You’re not hurt this week” when the kid has limped around all last week at practice and found a way to play with heavy tape on his ankle trying to go, and has limped around all this week. I have even heard Akers has yet to go see Brady Webb since his surgery. If so, that speaks volumes on what kind of guy we have leading our program. Especially when a former GC coach went to see him the night of his injury. Sorry if I upset an assistant coach again with my post. Sad, sad times for GC football.1 point -

To my knowledge, the town of Richlands annexed the high school's side of the road from that sign in front of Roma's up to the high school so the the school would be inside the town limits. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that happened several years ago.1 point

Area code, not zip code. That's my bad. Turner is 4-3 vs. Mance. It's not like he's won 10 more games head-to-head. I've got time, I'll play this game. Since 1999 vs. teams who ended with winning records: 1999: 0-6 2000: 3-3 2001: 4-2 2002: 6-3 2003: 3-4 2004: 7-2 2005: 8-1 2006: 10-0 2007: 7-3 2008: 6-2 2009: 4-2 2010: 9-1 2011: 2-1 2012: 4-2 2013: 6-4 2014: 5-4 2015: 7-2 2016: 8-1 2017: 0-5 So that's a grand total of 99-47 vs. teams that are .500 or better. That's 52 more wins than losses vs the teams with winning records. Doesn't quite paint the picture you want it to.1 point

After researching more, and I advise you do the same, he circled the block or something... made it look suspicious. Cop ran the plates and saw the violations. Tough to discredit the cop form doing their job of investigating suspicious activity. We can argue all day about the nature of suspicion but neither of us were there. I take the cops word it was suspicious even if the activity was not intended to be.1 point -

So extremely minor stuff, nothing serious at all. Except the firearm in the car, most people see jail time for that. But the second arrest screams profiling, because someone has a nice car at a barber shop they should be scrutinized?1 point -

Understood, but as a Giles fan shouldn't you want Graham to win so Giles will get extra rider points? Those extra points maybe could be the difference in a #3 ranking or #4? That would buy you another week before having to travel to Appomattox.1 point -

Coach Palmer Given Enough Credit?
BigWinners reacted to BigO for a topic
I fully agree about consistency and longevity. Alls well when you have the Jimmys and the Joes.....but what happens when it's all about the X's and the O's? Will they stay competitive when the talent cycles out? Same question with Reed at Abingdon. He's done pretty good for the amount time he's been there....even doing better this year than some expected (myself included!). But now that Colobro is gone and Sturgill graduated, how long will they stay relevant when it comes to post season ball? And this is no slap at the kids there now....because they've done a great job. A coach is measured by what kind of legacy they create or leave behind. 2-3 years just isn't quite long enough to measure.1 point -

Palmer is a capable coach, but he has also been blessed by an absurd run of athletes at the skill positions that don't come around often. I think he has some growing to do as it relates to the position itself, but he's capable.1 point
