Gc has had 4 coaches since the early 60s. They did not fire or run of the first three.

The 2D picture isn't as clear cut as it seemed a few weeks ago. With Abingdon's victory over Ridgeview and so MANY toss-up games remaining, the picture is pretty fuzzy for final positions. Only Lebanon and Gate City are eliminated. Let's start with a battle of four 9-1 teams. This Assumes Grundy splitting their final 2 games, Letcher Co losing their final game, and other relevant games going as expected(whatever that is 🙄). 1.) Union 9-1 263 26.3 2.) If Grundy wins out and Letcher drops their game, Union and Ridgeview could be tied at 263 pts. Grundy, Grundy, Grundy!

I’m not surprised. Thad is one of the best coaches around. I don’t expect him to stay in high school much longer. He’s good enough to make the jump to an OC in college.

There's several candidates, I know Rose at LB for VHS will get some votes, and I wouldn't protest if Cam Allen won both offensive and defensive POY. Sproles at Ridgeview is a great LB, there's no clear cut answer for defense.

Pendergraft ain't going nowhere he has 2 nephews coming up in a very good youth program. Now with that being said as long as he is there Lee will suffer because he is coaching Daddy ball and that folks is where the problem lies. With Coach Martin's short success he was ran off he didn't choice to leave on his on very reliable source for that tidbit. Let me fire 1 huge Cannon shot. All time record Union is 9 and 0 all time against Lee including the catch 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Starting last cycle, i think, it applies to all smaller class opponents. I think it was an incentive for larger schools to play smaller schools that want to play up. Northside got 3A points for Galax.

Martin was let go because the new head coach and school board member were good friends. Head coach on a power trip with his wife. He was a decent quarterback in high school but didn't work as an assistant long enough to learn the game enough to run a program. Never was a leader, only a follower. He's made the statement while one of lee's lineman was benching 400 or so pounds that he had never seen that at LHS before. One of his former teammates and All American lineman at Emory & Henry replied, that if he had spent any time in the weight room as a player he would have seen that feat. Lot of talent at Lee and they sure deserve better than what they got at the top. Going to be hard a new coach to come in here and start from scratch. Only good news is that there is plenty of talent in the pipeline in youth program, jv and varsity got a long way to go. I sure am glad that my grandkids are at Union.

Right there with you pal. I've stayed off the board since Friday because I just didn't want to talk about it. The folks on Facebook are trying to make the world think we lost because of the BS call on that TD pass where the guy was out of bounds. That's NOT why we lost. We came back from that and actually led by 10 at the end of 3. We did NOT finish and put the game out of reach when we had the opportunity. We did NOT get the ball to our other playmakers. Right now it's as if the the offensive coaches think there's one playmaker on this team, and as good as Adkins is, he simply can't do it all. I just feel so bad for Sexton in all of this. He has to be wondering at this point why he transferred from Eastside.

You may not want to miss the Hough and MC game. It may be a classic, especially with all of the transfers that Hough got in this summer.

That conference is the best in the state from top to bottom. There are only 2 bad teams in the conference, those being Hopewell (0-8) and Lake Norman (2-7). North Meck and West Charlotte are also competitive to some extent and will make the playoffs and give that conference 6 teams to get in.

That's the most ridiculously competitive area I've ever seen in person. And I saw Drew Brees, Tommy Banks and Bradie James play in high school while in the military. One 8-team conference sent 6 teams to the playoffs with 3 of those teams reaching the state semifinals last season!

I know nothing about the kid from union and I'm sure you do but the question was 2A player of year THIS year...no offense Philpott is best defensive player I've watched this year...and it's not close IMO

Ridgerunner those are valid points, if I was a betting man they went to the wishbone against better teams in Ridgeview and Union to slow it down and try to keep it competative, the Gate City game I have no clue. Having said that, I am not in any way upholding or making excuses for anyone, simply stating facts that Lee High will always be parents and politics running the show in every sport.

I don't care much for most of those coaches, but they are probably going to be 18-2 in the last two regular seasons and all of sudden they don't know what they are doing? Come on we sound as bad as Union fans wanting to fire Travis and their coaches after 1 loss. I mean I think there should be a different QB to but that wouldn't have made any difference in the game. Sometimes things happen, could we control some of them? Yes but not everything. It was a tough loss but we have to get over it and move on. Go fishing maybe shoot a nice buck calm down and get back after it Friday.

Our WR screens have been predictable for years. The TE screens, however, have been very effective, but don't do them often. The RB screens have been hit and miss.

people leave all the time for different reasons, but if one athlete breaks your program then it wasn't much already. it's the same everywhere, not just the schools suffering bad seasons. as far as coaching, it should be treated as any other job in every school, in that if you can't get it done then find someone who will.

That actually came a little earlier when they marked off a penalty on each team that ended with a result that could have used clarification. I don't remember exactly what was called, but it was two penalties, one against Marion during the play and one against Tazewell after the play, so Tazewell got a first down but it was marked as a first and fifteen. A little later in the fourth, a Marion fan yelled something to the effect of "hit the zebras next time" after a penalty and the head linesman took offense to it. Again, not at all that I'm condoning that kind of behavior, but the official probably overreacted considering the amount of times that the official has likely heard that type of thing said during a game. They were quite flag happy over the course of the game. I'm not going to accuse it of being biased either way, there were just a lot of penalties that were likely frustrating to both teams, in particular the unsportsmanlike calls that both teams were getting.
