I don't think we can ignore Virginia High. I may be wrong on this but the last time we played Virginia High, Rose carried the ball one time for a long run before he was injured. Beating the same team twice in same season is not always easy. Halftime of the Princeton until now Graham has played as a team better than recent teams. This team doesn't seem to have an ego problem. They have gotten better as a unit as the season as progressed. Give credit where credit is due. That's coaching. One week at a time. Let's go Graham!

Richlands will win. Only problem they'll have is the fans finding a seat in that wonderful stadium they have over in Independence.

Chilhowie beat the #3 team in Region D by 35 points, and doubled up (23) the #2 team in Region D. Those were the only two teams to score more than 10 points on Chilhowie this season. Galax will be the first real challenge Chilhowie will face (and a challenge they are).

Region C is not very good this year, IMO. It’s conceivable Graham wins enough to get to Salem. But one game at a time...

People have underestimated Chilhowie all year. I hope they go and get what they deserve.

Being able to have one way players is a huge advantage for them considering they are a 1a school. Chilhowie vs PH round 2 might be a good game if Palmer can make adjustments the second time around but I still don’t know if they will help. If everything goes to as it should and everyone stays healthy Chilhowie and Galax should be fun to watch

I would put Turner in the pot for what he has done. He has won 8 games without James Mitchell or Jeb Stidham. Pretty good job in my opinion.

Chilhowie should roll through the region. IMHO, they just need to get through injury free because there isn't anybody in Region D that can match up to them.

This is a pretty good assessment Jags 52 ....Grayson pass D has given up a ton of yards past 2 weeks.....they just have very little team speed

The Warriors(Central) reeled off enough wins at the end of the regular season to get in and kudos to them. But the train stops here. The Warriors(Chilhowie) win this one going away.

It should balance out better in Class 1 next year. Some Region A schools are coming over to Region B to balance the four regions. But it is plain stupid and nothing more than a money-grab by VHSL. Most teams in Virginia would have to play 15 official games plus a scrimmage and benefit game in order to win a state championship, totaling what would essentially be 17 games. The NCAA doesn't want student-athletes playing that many games. Why should the state high school association?

He can stock his coaching staff with some of the other GC posters. If that happened, GC state champs in 2019 And 2020 And 2021, 2022, loss in the 2023 finals because of a referee conspiracy, and then winning again in 2024.

Take the Richlands game for what it’s worth. I understand there was a ton of other stuff going on and you can split it 100 different ways. But 45-0 and just toying with Richlands RARELY happens. The reason I say they are the favorites for the State title is because I think they are the clear favorites out of region D. I think the winner of C would close the gap quite a bit, but I feel they have the speed to match up with whoever it may be. From what I gather, East Rockingham is the favorite From A and B and I feel when they match up with the G-men it could go either way, and as many problems as I have with Graham, I’ll pull for the region D team regardless.

I just watched it. It kinda looks like the Honaker player started throwing after flying up on a run and then got turned inside and started windmilling. Even that is iffy because the play goes on by as does the camera. It was raining so I doubt anybody had their camera out.

I think it will be similar to the part 1. Eastside will pass a lot I would think, like they did in Coeburn.

Congrats. Warriors! As a graduate of Clintwood high school, i, as well as many more, wish the best to your quest for state title.. we will cheer y'all on.. hopefully Warriors, Pack will have a date for 1A and 2A titles.!!

As someone who played in the Akers era, I am truly glad he is gone. I don't believe we should bash him, the time for that has passed. But, as someone who has been fortunate enough to play under some wonderful coaches, I can say that the man did not know what he was doing. Week to week, our offense would completely change. There was no foundation. He wanted to run the veer that had worked at Retreat, but the offense simply does not work in 2a football. In 1a, where you're only looking at one or two really good players on each team, it works fine. However, in 2a there are too many talented players on the field. Once he realized that it wouldn't work, he didn't change it. He was too prideful. He could not admit that others knew better than him and would not listen to their advice. Another problem was his butchering of the little league program. He did not care enough to take charge of the program himself, and he allowed coaches to stack their teams and ruin the 4 team structure. As a former Redskin, it pained me to see the kids losing hope and eventually have to cut their season short for coaches not doing what was right for the kids. The travel ball was a product of this pride. It told kids who weren't "good enough" to go to the house and give up. Rather than a fun, month long season where you played against your friends and learned the game of football, it became a 3 month long slog where you were forced to run plays the varsity players didn't even know how to run properly. If I would have grown up with this system, I probably wouldn't have made it to varsity. I would have been one of the "not good enough" to make the travel team. I would've been told to give up what I loved because my dad wasn't a former player and I was an undersized lineman. Akers allowed this attitude, and i believe that's why numbers have been down. Many former players have expressed their disdain for him and say they would have continued playing if it weren't for him. And that leads to what I believe was Akers biggest problem: the lack of respect. The man was a jerk to his players, belittling new players who were just learning varsity and telling experienced players that they didn't want to win any and that they should just go home. This is why I think the team started to lose faith through the season. We were told we did not deserve to be there and then he would try and say he cared about us. The team wanted to win, but the constant bashing slowly took its toll on the team and we no longer believed in him. We did not respect him, for he did not respect us, and that, more than anything, is why he failed at Gate City. I hope that in whatever he does in the future, he is successful and I hope him and his new family find happiness in their future plans. But, I do not believe the man was right for the job and I believe he was responsible for destroying something I held so near to my heart. I pray Gate City finds the right person for the job in the future, for the community's, my former teammates', and for all the future blue devil's sakes.

Not to jump on Sproles, who I love as a player and seems to be a good kid, but this kind of stuff has gotten out of hand at Ridgeview. Every week we get multiple penalties for players trash talking and several punches have been thrown. Why would you punch somebody wearing a helmet? I’m disappointed that Rick Mullins hasn’t gotten this under control, and surprised we haven’t had an ejection before this.

Coaches have to go through some things some times to learn valuable lessons. I think he has done a great job of being flexible and changing things up to fit his personnel. Some coaches get stuck and stubborn, and it costs them. He has realized that to win it may not come the way he prefers. That will serve him well in the future for sure.

If Grayson wins tonight and wins a couple playoff games, their coach would have my vote.
