Three things are for certain: Pack football team win by a lot. Pack football fans will be deaf for the next week after this game from the horrible PA system blaring music at a million decibels. Grundy PA announcer will complain and try to influence the refs about some holding call that wasn't called. With that said, Ridgeview wins something like 56-7.3 points -

Love it. Tazewell County, the town of Richlands in general, starting to become boring capital of the world, unless you like the same four bands at the same four spots in town every week. But that's town talk... We talk football round here... Union comes to play this week Richlands shows that they might have some tricks, but last week was a bit of a lucky win. Not a lot but luck was on their side. Union 28 to Richlands 7.3 points -
2022 Playoff format

False. Teams in each region will be seeded 1-8. You’ll have the regional quarter finals, regional semifinals, then region championship. The region champion from C will play the region champion of D in the state semifinals. The winner from that will play the winner between A and B in the State Championship.2 points -

I’ll say this and be done. It sounds like Vaught knew what he was doing. Interpret that as you wish. But that’s just how I see it with the information I have been given. It’s a shame that that’s what will be talked about regarding the team but that’s the legacy. Richlands won 17-7. Not exactly a blowout, not exactly close. But a play or two from being a totally different conversation. Take this with a grain of salt but when I lived in and around Roanoke from 2017-2021, I asked some Salem people about it. Most of them shrugged it off and said “Oh well.” So that tells me most Salem people aren’t all that concerned about it. Why should they be? They avenged that loss in 2004. They have won a total of 10 championships. I have only seen one fanbase get mad over it and it’s been the Richlands group. Some people need to learn to handle criticism of their teams and not get their panties in a wad over it. It’s just a game. Anyway, Go Bears!2 points -
Graham Vs Tazewell
Gridiron60 and one other reacted to FootballFan67 for a topic
I stand by my statement that Graham is well coached. They hold their players accountable for what happens in a game. As someone else said, Graham practices pretty intensely and that probably shows up on the field sometimes. I'll intense any day over lackadaisical but that's just me.2 points -

I know I'm going to stir the pot by saying this but I do ask this question in all sincerity. How can you say a team is well coached when they are riddled with penalties, especially PF types. To me that is on the coaches to nip those in the bud and make sure they don't happen excessively. As far as procedural penalties go, to me that goes on coaches as well. I know penalties are going to happen on a few occasions but anything excessive is something to be coached and worked on.2 points -

Dogs with the upset, lead 13-7 at half. Gmen respond in the 2nd half 35 unanswered with 2 pick 6s and a punt return mixed in there somewhere. Ol tim Woodward sneaks on the field and makes an impact. Good luck to both, should be a good one with 1 score near the end to decide this one.2 points -
Whoever hired a string of coaches that couldn’t beat Tennessee with even a small bit of regularity, forcing the schools to stop playing a series that was very, very lopsided? That’s my guess.2 points

Realignment Idea
Austrian Ben Shapiro reacted to Bluebird for a topic
As far as realignment. Would it be a good or bad idea for the schools on the boarder of Kentucky, West Virginia, or Tennessee. To switch Leagues. An example. Graham High School going to the West Virginia high school association or Bluefield High school joining the VHSL. I know that some people would get more than upset at that idea but its an idea that might help out some of the schools that are too far away from other schools in the state.1 point -

I was at the game pulling for Richlands and can’t agree with this statement. While I believe Richlands was the superior team that day in the mud, with or without the cleats, I’m not so confident regarding what might have occurred had they played on a dry field. Salem was a beast that year, beating eventual AAA Division 6 champion Pulaski County. That Richlands team squeaked by Gate City and Powell Valley, and almost lost to a mediocre Marion team in the mud. The near loss at Marion speaks to the difference a soggy field can make. I’ve often wondered if perhaps the Marion game spurred Vaught to buy the infamous cleats. Anyway, we’ll never know. Just my two cents …1 point

If they were getting PF or unsportsmanlike penalties multiple times, multiple games in a row then I’d agree they have a coaching issue but that’s not the case. Either way, good luck to both teams, hopefully a fair game, & injury free game for both sides.1 point -

I could be wrong but probably meaning holding calls as far as riddled with penalties; giving up yardage because of said calls. That seems to be their go to penalty but they have usually gotten that cleaned up after a few games. Let’s be truthful, officials could probably call holding on every play in high school if they were so inclined. I’d put our coaching staff up against any in our area but I’m biased.1 point -

The only point that I will make will be in reference to the Nordic countries. The population of all of those countries mentioned above have a combined population smaller than that of California. That is excluding the illegal immigrants. It is much different in helping with the needs of a small population in comparison to that of the United States. The point about the political parties was theorized by George Washington long ago.1 point -

I get it. But...........I can promise you this for each one of those PF or unsportsmanlike conduct penalties there will be a whole lot of running going on. They aren't just swept under the rug. They practice with a lot of intensity compared to some therefore they play with it. Does it go overboard at times? Maybe so. The PF call the other night as Researcher mentioned was pretty iffy. Kid started the tackle while in bounds. When they continued out of bounds the ball carrier fell, ref threw the flag. Im not saying the ref screwed up, just a marginal call. Graham had 2 "illegal participation" penalties as well for not wearing mouthpiece. When you have been playing football since you were 5 you should know the dang thing needs to be in your mouth.😂1 point -

In later years some of the Salem players admitted they also wore the longer kleats, and after all that should have been checked by the white cap and flagged for illigal equipment, 15 yard penalty with the equipment being removed from play. That situation was far more than kleats, it was the old plough boys beating the high fashioned race horses and the VHSL was not pleased with the outcome. The Salem coach complained about the field, the fans, the RHS players, the bathrooms, the signage around the fence, the loud barking dog in the neighborhood, and how bad the lighting was on the field. You would have thought Salem had lost the super bowl, and the coach could not understand how a bunch of good old Blue clad hilbillies could best his fine oiled machine. As a Blues fan, we still hear this BS and probably will for the extent of my life and beyond. I was present for that game and loved every minute of it!!!!!1 point -

While I cannot condone the ethics of the decision or the fallout from this decision, in my opinion this team would have won without the cleats. This is also an example of Vaught’s (not unlike Belichick) attention to detail in seeking every advantage. The field was nasty after snowfall, so he took that into consideration. This team had talented pass catchers, and had primarily used split backs prior to the game. He switched the offense to a power I bringing in bigger blocking backs and using his physical offensive line to pound the ball straight ahead. Pure genius, other than the cleats. I don’t recall seeing a more masterful game plan at the high school level. It’s unfortunate to have the negative reputation. This team and that season truly made me fall in love with football.1 point

Tydrez is a huge part of the offense, but I disagree here. Not knowing his backups, it may not be plug and play but based on what I saw a decent backup can still rack up some yardage with the line play. Those long runs may not be there but I still see around 5 yards per carry. A couple of those are good enough to move the chains IF there isn’t a illegal procedure/holding/delay of game/personal foul to overcome1 point -

Okay, I'm a true Blue fan, but don't have much faith in lady luck showing up at every game. Could Union borrow Gate City's center for the first half, please. Feel bad for the kid, but those over the head snaps were a defining moment in the game. I'll go out on the limb with this one, I'm gong Richlands 24--Union 21. Bandy kicks a 47 yard field goal on the last snap of regulation to win the game. Buckle up boys, it's going to be another fun game to watch. I'm not delusional, just old, and it could happen, you never know with these two. Hope all Union fans have safe travels, and if it's good food you want to eat, visit the Railroad Depot in the center of town. Good people.1 point -
