Nothing about education is easy. One of the most overworked, underpaid professions there is.12 points -
My wife is a teacher and I've worked in education for 23 years. I would disagree. Being a classroom teacher with constant student interaction from 8 am to 3:30 pm, plus bus duty days with little to no breaks, M-F, in addition to using your planning period to remediate students and call parents. Then, grading papers and answering student and parent questions throughout the evening. I'm sorry but assistant principals don't even come close to that level of continuous work. You might argue that they deal with parent complaints, but these days, most administrators dodge, deflect and refer parents back to the teacher. If they don't, then the teacher gets yelled at, still not escaping. Remember, everything flows down hill.7 points

This is insane and what’s wrong with sports right now you got kids quit because someone gets a job. People do not realize how hard it is to find coaches period! And we want to quit because someone is on staff. You already had one head coach step down because the star player wanted threatened to leave. It’s stupid back in the day your coach was your coach and you listened and got coached by him. If you didn’t like them you suck it up and play because of your teammates and love for the sport. And parents didn’t let them quit either3 points -

The video I posted is full of 18, 19, and 20 year old boys. Not "grown men". Has Gobble had a history of doing things like that with players that aren't his son? Him grabbing his son by his jersey and getting into his face for acting like a jackwagon isn't like the Woody Hayes incident, or the incident at Ridgeview last year. There was no violence whatsoever in the video of Gobble.2 points -

I remember watching him play basketball in high school. He was a good player, athletic, and tough to guard with his left-hand game. The impression I got from him even back then was arrogance and attitude. Doubt he's changed much given his baseball success after high school. With that being said, I am somewhat torn on this situation. I feel like I was a tough parent with my kids concerning how they acted and represented themselves regardless of the situation. My philosophy was always "win well, lose well". I believe in respecting your teammates and your opponents. I was not at this game but by reading all the comments it is my understanding that his youngest son was throwing a tantrum after getting out by throwing his helmet and cursing towards the opposing team. When it is just one of your players, you reprimand them, set a severe punishment, and address the team that attitude/reaction such as that will not be tolerated. When it is also your son, the parent side of you tends to react a little harsher. From the video, I see him grab the jersey, confront his kid harshly, and shove him by the shoulder toward the handshake line. I do not see any strike to the face and some mentioned. Anyone who says that you shouldn't hold your child to a higher standard than the rest of the team has probably not been a parent/coach at the same time. It's a very tough thing to do. It's human nature to react different to things your children do as oppose to things other children do. I do believe that it should be handled outside of the public/camera eye and away from the teammates simply because of the embarrassment factor. I also believe that this situation cannot be fully judged by watching a video online. One would need to have been present to witness everything leading up to that situation to truly get a feel for what happened.2 points -

What about a secretary, janitor, shrink (psychiatrist), collar (priest), mailman, or carney (carnival worker) or a person with a degree in culinary arts known as a "cook." None of the above set well either. Interestingly, most police officers seem cool or ok with being referred to as a cop. Prison guard definitely doesn't go over well with corrections officers. That's a tough job and wears on people mentally, emotionally because they are dealing with people everyday with the intent on zapping them emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically.2 points -

It has been 68 days since this job has been open the fact that it has not been filled should be alarming to fans and players. If they are hiring from outside there is a good chance the coach cant get there until the end of the school year but why wouldnt you go ahead and announce it so the guy can get to know his players even if he can be there in person. I am not sure when the next school board meeting is but it has to be soon. regardless they have let at least 2 meeting come and go without putting up a name. At this point it is a lose lose situation for who ever gets this job. The hire is probably going to look like a bad one in year one just because the guy is going to have 3 months to develop his players where everyone else has been working since the end of last season. Hopefully the patient and understanding fan base of Wise Central gives this guy some time and is not calling for his head after one bad season.2 points -

It’s easy for us to say coach/player situation not father/son looking as someone not part of the dynamic. If you’ve coached your own kid at the high school level and always maintained coach/player mindset in every circumstance , then kudos to you but I’d say that’s harder said than done. All the coaches I know that have coached their own kids expect more from their kid and are harder on them. I’m not saying it’s fair to the kid but it is what it is.1 point -

Sorry for the delay in responding. There was golf to be played after leaving the office yesterday afternoon. Coaches don't have to actually teach class to be employed within a school system. It's simple for a school system to create a position for a coach. Mark Dixon was listed as a school psychologist. That doesn't mean he actually did anything in that official capacity. Shane Allen is an aide in the Special Education Department. As a matter of fact, only 3 varsity head coaches at Galax actually teach class. The volleyball coach teaches World History, the girls basketball coach teaches Geography and Personal Finance, and the boys basketball coach teaches Gym. The baseball coach is an aide in the Middle School. The Swim & Dive, Cross Country, and Track & Field coaches run the Galax Recreation Center. One is Director, the other is the Assistant Director. The Wrestling coach lives in North Carolina. I have no idea what he does professionally but he doesn't work for the school system. The Golf coach is the General Manager of Blue Ridge Country Club. The majority of assistant coaches are listed as "paraprofessionals" on the school website but have no clear classroom responsibility. I assume they are aides. Stephen James doesn't teach anything at Grayson. Seth Greer doesn't teach anything at Carroll. Both are listed on their schools directories but neither have a position listed. Greer was a state trooper for a decade prior to getting into coaching.1 point -
I would say it’s hard to find a head coach that doesn’t teach 1. If they don’t teach they can’t be in the hallways recruiting 2. you better have a good paying job because the 5k-8k supplement isn’t gonna put food on anyone’s table 3. Very few jobs let their employees off at 3 so they can get to practice and games I know Palmer does it at Graham so their is an exception to every rule but I don’t know why you would want your head coach in the building1 point

Just watch hockey, which, quite honestly, is a better sport than most other options. Just as physical as football, hand-eye coordination of baseball and soccer. Much faster pace. Waaaaayyyy less arrogance and entitled attitudes. My family has a lot of midwestern roots. I played on a street hockey league in Texas for a couple of years while I was in the Army stationed at Fort Hood......a whole new level of being in shape....and I was a plodding defensemen with average change of direction for that league. Those forwards are world class athletes. I remember the other defensemen I played with was a tanker and had a glass eye. He would smack dudes in the boards and was always checking with me to make sure his eye didn't come out. Lol. Good times!1 point

Some of these kids have a terrible group of people surrounding them as well. They hitch to the kid's wagon in hopes of some huge NIL deal or even further, NFL contract. They will put thoughts in the kid's head that they are a P5 talent or the League is a no doubt outcome to their career. I see it damn near every day and the kid is the one who suffers in the end.1 point
