What a complete joke and major distraction for those kids from Chilhowie. Galax has to have all of the motivation in the world now. Chilhowie fans, staff, and administration are acting like moving a game from a muddy field to a college stadium with wonderful facilities to a field with sinkholes and giant rocks in the corner of the end zone with pine trees two feet from the pylons is a great idea. Also why did they go practice at Emory & Henry? I smell ego city because VHSL moved it to Emory without consulting with them first. I hope all that complained are happy with the outcome. I hate it for those kids especially the seniors. Reminds me of Tennessee trying to hire Greg Schiano lol!

Look I understand your and their concerns and disappointment. Although the post I have seen in social media this morning about calling Galax a bunch #$$##0because they didn't want to play in the mud and they are the reason it got moved is petty and simply not the case. That's not how the VHSL works, three games got moved. I think the surrounding areas would be more simpathetic to the communities complaints if all that was not being spewed all over social media. Galax had no say in it, the school admins no this to be true yet they continue to let their community think this is the case. Look Galax beat us twice this year and I am all for Chilhowie getting the win, although people saying what they are social media is just making Chilhowie look bad. To be honest it is placing an ugly blemish on what is a stellar moment for your community. I completely get the financial impact to the community, I heard Galax had went out and spent a couple of thousand dollars on new cleats for their players just for this game. I am sure their is people on here from Chilhowies administration reading this, so step up and ensure the misplaced anger at the fans of Galax is placed where it should be on the VHSL. IMO, Chilhowie earned the right to play the game wherever they choose. It's football, if they want to play in the mud then the game should be played in the mud.

VHSL should have stood their ground. What dumb decision! The audacity of a politician to step in a situation involving high school playoff venue is ridiculous. Good luck to both teams, not thinking Chilhowie bettered themselves any with this venue change and the they look like a bunch of cry babies, no offense to those Warriors who weren't cry babies.

It's too bad that the VHSL doesn't decide who gets to be in the state game by attendance, if they did, then Ridgeview and Union would be playing in it. 😄

The fact that a delegate can throw his weight around to get a reversal of a game is just crazy.

So what makes this Mudpit better than Chilhowie field? What a mess this week has been. Heck at this point We are gonna have 1qt in Saltville. 2nd in Chilhowie. 3rd at PH, and end it in Emory.

It is so much more than that. It was earned by the VHSL power points system. Its home field advantage (self explanatory). Its the concession money that benefits the sports programs. It is the positive financial impact that the town businesses and community will benefit from. Its the community rallying around this team and hosting game day events and functions. Chilhowie is a small close knit community and feel these things were taken away from them without any consideration. Its one thing to know you were going to be playing at a neutral site for the last 4 weeks. Its another to change it less that 48 hours before the Kickoff!

This is what is wrong with today's society everyone gets a trophy. 24 kids that's it. First team and move on 11 off 11 defs. Utility player and kicker.

Haha. Saltville will water the field and dig holes in it tonight so it won't be playable tomorrow. They'll be picketing in the streets protesting allowing Chilhowie in their stadium. And you think I'm kidding....

What sense does moving the game to Saltville make? How many weeks has it been since a game was played on that field and is it even ready to host a game that will happen in less than 24 hours?

I will admit that I didn't watch Pollier enough to compare them and I don't think you watched either of them enough to compare them. I also don't like comparing high school kids. I did however watch Sproles a lot, and even with his awards he is undervalued. He is really really good.

Disappointing for sure. Attendance went down immediately after the Abingdon game. There was a glaring issue in that game, everyone knew it wouldn't be corrected, and a lot got frustrated and didn't come to the last games. I'm hoping attendance will be back to normal next year regardless of our record.

I’d say Appomattox @ Union last year had more. But In games involving two local teams, the crowd at Union/RV would be tough to beat.

Dec. 6, 2002 WDBJ 7 FFE prior to the George Wythe-Gate City semi-final game: The white stuff blanketed the state on Wednesday and since then schools have been scrambling to get their fields uncovered for tomorrow's games. Entire communities have literally chipped in help the cause and in the case of George Wythe high school in Wytheville, a helicopter was brought in from Bristol to dry the field after the townsfolk spent much of Thursday and Thursday night literally shoveling the field clean.

That would be hurtful. Guess you will need to drag that doll out again. 😉

VHSL has decided to give Chilhowie another shot at playing the game on their own field Saturday. The rain in supposed to stop tonight and several prominent citizens have persuaded the Trump administration to deploy a couple of Blackhawk Helicopters to dry off the field before kickoff.

No, its a month to month from date of purchase. I bought mine the day before the 1A state Championship game last year on 12/09/2017 because when they moved it to Sunday I couldn't go. It renews on that day each month. It was actually pretty good coverage and you could see a lot more obviously than you could in the stands.

I have heard Rye Cove will be going into KY to face some Yellow Jackets. In this case you really will have to head west through the Cumberland Gap to get there.

Unlike last year, this is far from accurate. Chilhowie would absolutely push Riverheads to the brink.
