Radford looked athletic warming up, and looked athletic on the field, but didn't play as athletic as they looked. Both teams had small lines, and GC's might have been slightly better at times. The Bobcats did a good job taking Carson Jenkins out of the game. Radford's QB showed flashes both running and throwing, but was very inconsistent. GC's QB didn't throw much but was decent when he did. I don't see either team winning their respective regions, but it was an entertaining game nonetheless.

  6. I agree with everything you said. The talent on that team this year is flat out scary. When I'm not cheering for Tazewell, I am cheering for Graham. To see the lack of discipline was disappointing to say the least. I can understand some of the procedural penalties because of the starting center being out and lack of practice. However the roughness penalties and personal fouls and some of the on-the-field and off-the-field antics as you described is nothing more than distraction and lack of focus. Attitude reflects leadership. I'm sure Graham's coaches will get on top of things. A well-coached and disciplined team with some talent will beat Graham handily if they can't get their focus. I have the utmost respect in the world for Graham's coaches, but they need to get on top of that yesterday.

  8. The score doesn’t reflect it but Tazewell handled Graham pretty well overall last night. Tazewell has some great athletes especially in Mullens & Harris. I hate they lost the other kid to ACL injury. Their freshman QB is going to be great with more experience and a stronger line to give him more time. Tazewell gets the much needed win this week.

  9. Trying is the operative word there. He thinks he’s being cute and smart, but in reality he’s coming across as a buffoon. As for the game itself, the issues with Tazewell aren’t schematic or effort-related. The issues are youth and depth, even excluding COVID-19 protocols. That’s coming up the pipeline though; the middle school team has 51 kids and there’s size and speed aplenty there. Tazewell’s opened up against what are most likely the 2 best teams in the SWD. Neither game was a bonafide blowout. In both games, Tazewell’s shown flashes of wonderful play. It just hasn’t been sustained. As the level of competition ratchets down this week, and as Tazewell returns home, I think the script flips this week. Expect a nice offensive output and a much more effective running game.

  11. I think we can take our Graham goggles off now and be honest. They looked terrible. Hats off to Tazewell for keeping it more competitive than many thought it would be. Maybe with some practice Graham will improve and get more disciplined. My two cents here. After the game when the team is in the locker room the whole team needs to be in there. 4 or 5 outside doing a photo shoot while the team is getting chewed is poor discipline

Liberty(Bedford) 42, Fort Defiance 0 Nice win for the Minutemen. Got to clear the bench in the 4th quarter (my son made his first varsity tackle tonight playing linebacker). Marching band made their debut with their full show and sounded great (my youngest boy made his debut on the field there tonight). First time LHS has shut anyone out in a long time. This plus Hokies win and a victory by my grad school (Charlotte) over Duke. Pretty nice football night for me all around.

  15. 2016 was the last time Bluefield lost to Princeton. 2016 is also the last time Bluefield lost 2 in a row. Princeton wins over Bluefield are few and far between. As far as I know, Bluefield was at full strength. Princeton played them close last season, but it's always a surprise to me when Princeton beats Bluefield. The Bluefield - Graham, Bluefield-Pulaski and Graham - Pulaski games are games that I would like to see. I hope I can get to at least 2 of the 3.

Heck of a game. Credit Gate City for about winning the game. They got the best of us up front They did an incredible job of neutralizing our speed. I hope our kids learn a valuable lesson that you can't just show up and win. Gate City threw some vicious licks on us. As for the Jenkins kid, he is all that is advertised. Actually, that's not true. He's far, far more than advertised. There is no way in one can tell me and make me believe this kid can not play MAJOR, FBS level slot WR with that speed and those hands. We have some guys on our team that have track speed. There were a few times when we were in perfect position defensively on some of those sweeps with Jenkins and our very fast defenders had the perfect angle, and the Jenkins kid would just "outrun" the angle. He has absolutely BLAZING speed. If this kid isn't offered higher than William and Mary, I will be surprised My take away from this game is not necessarily that Radford is "not as good" as thought. I think we actually are pretty good. I don't think it's necessarily that Gate City is far, far better than what we thought. My take away is.......Richlands is the real deal. They handled Gate City up front and we didn't. Gate City, slightly got the better of us up front. For a team (Richlands) that we blew completely out of the stadium about 6 months ago, they in my opinion have completely turned it around and are going to cause problems, major problems up front for Graham and Union in my opinion. I just can't see Graham or Union beating Richlands by more than 10 points. Time will tell. Lastly, this game speaks to the strength of Region D. Gate City isn't likely a top 6 team, arguably the 7th best team in 2D and they nearly won the game over the team in 2C that is right there with Glenvar and Gretna as the second best team in our Region. Region D is very, very strong and has some great football teams.

    Graham vs Richlands

The GMen, as bad as they played /lookeed/penalties vs Tazewell and considering how good VHigh looked against Tazewell, the Graham defense allowed Tazewell 150 total yards and Tazewell had almost two times that amount against Virginia High. Graham also had 408 total yards against Tazewell compared to Va High's 367, and Graham had 17 penalties that helped bring down their total yards. Also, the final score was worse for Tazewell against Graham compared to VHigh, and Tazewell was going to have a goose egg on the board without the badly thrown pick 6. All of that with Graham having few practices/coming off quarantine. I'm not saying Graham beats VH, maybe VH beats Graham, but the numbers above kind of show how dangerous Graham Could/Possibly be if they get out of their own heads. Even if you are a VH fan, if you look at the above, it has to have you a bit worried when you play Graham, and truly hoping Graham self destructs. I think Richlands is the real deal, and to me, the best team they've had since losing to Appomattox in a game they should have won. I think they actually beat Graham, but come playoff time, after the Graham QB gets his feet wet and gains comfort, and the discipline is largely fixed, I would pick Graham to win. Graham is so undisciplined right now to me that it's going to take more than 1 week to fix, and Richlands to me is very good. Good enough that Graham will not be able to just overcome the discipline issues due to the talent gap, because Richlands on the line of scrimmage, although not very big, is vicious, and not a huge disparity up front between the two in my opinion, but come playoff time, no way will I pick the Blues over Graham, and maybe not even Union based on the talent present on Graham's team that is evident from last night. Scary, scary talented 2A team.

There was a time I was excited for this game. But with Richlands not having practiced in over a week — I fully expect a large Graham win.

  23. I agree with Mountain Football, downright embarrassing; 17 penalties, not kneeling for injured player, a player picking up a flag & throwing it, not every player in the locker room after the game…our boys have to be better than that. However. the talent & depth overflowing IF Graham can knock off the rust, avoid anymore quarantines, and gain much needed discipline; they could be unstoppable. Right now, Graham is their own worst obstacle to going deep in the playoffs. I hope we don’t have these same issues next week. In 2018 they started out very undisciplined & seemed to start clicking about game four of five. I hope they start clicking 2nd game this year.

Graham would've been more polished tonight if they would've got to play Bluefield and got that benefit game in against Ridgeview. It was an ugly win tonight, but considering how things has went for them and several other teams in the area I'd be pleased.

  28. I think if I were a Gmen guy, I would have had a heart attack by now with the emotional toll they take on ya!! LOL. This bunch can score on any play, at any given time, from anywhere on the field EASILY and with little effort, then they have the ability to start out a drive 1st and 40 with a clip and unsportsmanlike conduct at the drop of the hat on first down. They can then score on first and forty easily, only to be penalized again. It's really incredible, just remarkable man. Emotionally, very challening for a fan I'm sure, but........I can tell you as a Radford fan, I would love to have that talent. God help anybody if Graham actually gets out of Graham's way, but Graham seems to do a very good job of stopping Graham over the years. When they don't though, you get a 2018. Same thing this year. They have the talent to win a state title, but they also have enough Graham in em to lose the first game of the playoffs with 200 yds in penalties. You just never know with Graham.

  36. Disappointed with Graham not taking a knee for our injured player. Graham has a dozen coaches on the sideline. One of them could have told the players to take a knee. Maybe I'm over reacting. Personal fouls not a good look either. Graham has a lot of talent on that roster, but lack of discipline won't get them very far come playoff time. They have a lot to work on. As for the dogs, they fought hard. Had a lot of adversity and played hard, all you can hope for. They were simply outmanned and Bradshaw is incredible. Clements for Graham showed his speed on a long td that was called back.
