Graham vs Richlands
BigWinners and 3 others reacted to goSWVA for a topic
I cannot say what was said or done during the scramble for the ball - and I’m sure there was plenty from both sides - but I was there and saw the player get hit. The Richlands player was facing the home bleachers celebrating that they had the ball when he got hit in his back and everything broke loose. Also for whoever is interested, the principal and dad of the Richlands player was professional. He was calm, which I give him props for since his son was involved, and he did not approach the GC player. Richlands AD and others were on the field at the same time. Players and crowd were going wild, but adults on the field actually acted like adults.4 points -

Being from Marion, I can't speak to the specific incident. I will say, however, I've been around Rickie Vencille (AD at the time) when my daughter played against RHS. He was nothing but calm and professional during several highly stressful situations.3 points -
Not from Marion, but I'm just going to say this ... Athletic programs are more than just football. You can't just overhaul high school athletic programs at the drop of a hat, it doesn't work that way. 1. It all depends on the staff you have. 2. Sports teams go through cycles. 3. What are your schools priorities? Academics or Athletics? Last time I checked academics are the most important thing at a school. It sucks watching a bad football team I get that, I've had to do that a lot. Again like someone else on here said, it's sometimes nobody's fault it's just what you deal with. The important thing is Marion's students are learning hard work. Hopefully they will see that it will bring results. In today's society that is so important. Hopefully the Hurricanes and Pioneers will right the ships and once again contend in football, but until then just be supportive. Many of these kids never get support at home, and many live lives we couldn't imagine and have everyday struggles they should never have. It's just a game at the end of the day.3 points

I’ve seen more than one principal or AD go onto a field to try and stop a fight. Y’all are seriously making a mountain out of a mole hill. Guy went out to check on his son who was on the ground hurt — and then tried to keep the peace during what was about to be a brawl.3 points

Lol he’s not saying it sarcastically or insinuating that Carroll recruited him. Gosnell is a legitimate next level 4 star recruit who recently decommited from Ohio St.2 points

Mark this on the calendar for me defending Richlands, I agree completely with this. He was trying to stop a big issue from happening from his role status. Should he have rushed out on the field initially, no. It is what it is and move on with it. Not like he was trying to stir anything up.2 points -

I see your point they likely wouldn't let a regular parent be on field checking on kid unless seriously hurt but it falls within his duties to help break up fight. Sounds like no big deal unless he was being aggressive towards GC kid, which I have not heard happened.2 points -

It is impossible to know everything there is to know about a novel virus. It is also impossible to know everything there is to know about a vaccine for a novel virus. That being said, color me skeptical that people who guzzle down the newest flavor of Mountain Dew without question are suddenly concerned about how long the Covid vaccine has been researched. It is much more likely that there is a subset of the population whose anger/defiance/distrust of “authority” has been taken advantage of by bad actors.2 points -

stu_bean and one other reacted to Bluefield researcher for a topic
My doctor and all the evidence says there are microscopic blood clots from all 3 vaccines that form all over. The CDC doesn't count those because they don't show up on certain scans. None of them by themselves are damgerous but all together can be very dangerous. You go ahead and get the vaccine. No problem with me and I hope you do well. But I don't trust the CDC or the FDA because they manipulate the statistics with covid to pander to the vaccine companies.2 points -

I'm sure he's a talented kid. But there's absolutely no way you replace a Tre Lawing and perform at same level. Not many kids start four years at QB and win multiple state titles. Lawing is special, very hard to replace special. Pennix and the other back can help, but in the playoffs against a Draft or KW or Graham, you'll need a QB who can make play a ans every one knows what Lawing can do on both sides of ball1 point -

GW has not had a losing season in 25 consecutive seasons and only has 2 in the last 32. I understand at face value, with Harner’s win-loss record a lot of folks can’t understand why some folks from Wytheville have gripes. The truth is that we were winning at that rate long before Harner arrived. We certainly didn’t flourish overnight under his watch. There are some legitimate concerns as to why we haven’t gotten over the hump during his time here. Yes, some is due to competition (particularly Galax and Riverheads), but we have, in fact, had teams that underachieved. However, the man has maintained our ability to remain competitive. As I’ve mentioned, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with our lesser talented teams. While I’m not sure he’ll ever be a guy that can get us over the hump like we’ve been able to do in the past, things aren’t as bad as some from Wytheville make it out to be. He’ll still find ways to drive me bonkers….I’m confident in that lol! But our kids still play hard, and that’s the main thing to me. GW very well might snap that 25 year streak this season. Time will tell. Between a beefed up schedule and a lack of experience, it’ll be a tough year. But we cannot place the blame on Harner if that doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, a 5-5 season would be a helluva job on his part. Sorry. Off my soapbox on the subject lol1 point

I don't think he was ever over there near the GC kid. His players and coaches had drug him back to their sideline pretty quick. It was the rest of the players from both teams who were all jawing at that point.1 point -
I’ve seen plenty of parents go onto the sidelines to check on their injured kid. It’s just usually not all happening in the middle of a near-brawl. That said — I don’t see anything he did that was egregious. He went onto the field to help separate the teams — which I feel is well within his bounds as principal. I just feel like everyone is taking that whole 30 second chaos and making into someone wayyy more than it actually was.1 point

Marion 36, Northwood 14, Final Hats off to Northwood for playing and finishing this one. I don't care that Marion is down, there is no reason why Northwood, with 13 healthy players, should be playing a 2A school with 47 players. Smith showed a lot of class in his decision making, but until Northwood's numbers improve, this series needs to go back to being in hiatus. This was the most awkward game I've ever seen in my life; the final score doesn't indicate what a horribly unfair mismatch it was.1 point -

Not a Harner fan here, but that has nothing to do with offensive play calling. Ironically, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with his least talented teams. So glad this series is back! Giles has without a doubt been my favorite program to follow (other than GW, of course) since the 80's. Seeing a schedule with you guys and Radford on it just feels right. Good luck my Spartan friends!1 point

Like it or not trash talking is big among this younger generation. If you’re 35+, you probably trashed talked a little but nowhere near what these kids feel led to do. I don’t like it personally but it’s here to stay. The BIGGER problem I have with it is when the game is out of reach and the winning team still feels the need to talk sh*t. The losing team has nothing to lose, they are down, frustrated, and looking for an opportunity to take a dirty shot. It’s only 15 yards. Another factor is some daddy’s want their kids to be Bad*sses more-so than good coachable teamates.1 point -

Wait a minute. There was an altercation at another game in Tazewell County? It had to be Tony Palmer's fault!😂 There's no way it could have been Coach Tarter's fault. If my son was "attacked from the back" as you say. I would probably be asking myself what caused a farm boy from Gate City to do such a thing. Could it be that little Johnny's on the field shenigans caused such a reaction? Maybe precious little Johnny has been writing checks with his mouth that his a$! can't cash. Maybe we have been spitting on kids and said Gate City player had enough.1 point -

Its amazing to me the blatant double standard we have here. Its no secret Graham had too many penalties Friday night against Tazewell. All of which was a direct reflection of Tony Palmer according to some. Graham's team didn't take a knee during an injury. Tony Palmer's fault. Should they have taken a knee?Yes. Tazewell’s starters stood in a huddle talking to their coaches. Only the players on the sideline took a knee.......crickets. Last year's Tazewell team had more than their fair share of 15 yard penalties. Was that a direct reflection of Coach Harris then? Nope not a word was said. Y'all keep hating. We'll keep winning.1 point -
